Death isn't an excuse for slacking...
Samuel Meriwether is dead. It's just a pity his psychotherapist hasn't realised it yet. Trying to deliver a message, Sam ends up relating his death story, his arrival into Heaven's Immigration Control, and Judgement, where the jury is unable to make a decision on his best post-life career, resulting in Sam having to embark on a couple days' work experience. In order to decide between being a grim reaper or a guardian angel, he is assigned two angels to show him the ropes, one being his ex-mortuary make-up artist and the other an ex-drug baron.
On his journey, Sam discovers the real story of Adam and Eve, the reason for life, the true age of the Universe, and finally gets to meet God, or Management as They are properly known, as he finally has to decide what it is to be - grim reaper or guardian angel.
