He covers all aspects of buying a house and even talks about obscure types of properties like co-ops (which I happen to live in)
My biggest takeaway is that he shows you how to NOT make mistakes. For most people, buying a house is the biggest financial transaction they'll ever make. Alex shows you the common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
It's extremely helpful, especially given the housing crisis and subsequent economic collapse we saw back in 2008.
This book is good if you want a very brief introduction to ALL the pieces of homebuying especially the finances. However, the book does not go into any details on any of them and when it comes to determining how to choose your Real Estate Agent, it is very brief and boils down to telling you to make sure you pick someone with experience. How to confirm that you've nabbed a strong Real Estate Agent, is severely lacking in this book. If finances are what you are worried about don't read this book and rather read a book about lending and mortgages. If picking a real estate agent or learning about common traps when looking at homes are what you're looking for, this book is not it either. The author promises to deliver a book that is not too barebones but also not too detailed and but all I see here is surface level information that left me no more confident in the home-buying process.
Clear and easy to comprehend for a prospective first time home buyer. Definitely gave some good advice and questions to have in mind when selling or purchasing a Home.
This book was handy. I feel like I know the definitions of basic terms now, and have a general overview of the process of buying a house. This is a good primer, to figure out what you need to dive deeper in to, but not a deep dive broadly.
No nonsense? Should be called no new information. If you are driven enough to read a book on real estate, you don't need pointers like "shop around for a realtor, they work for you" or "clean up take good pictures of your house before listing." It really could use more information about financials. At least it was short and to the point.
