Out in the savanna with some mysteries.... lots of whawha which is fine but I thought the sinister disappearances of the people was the more interesting story than whatever spiritualism it was supposed to surround.

A truly enjoyable and surprisingly captivating trilogy
Having read and enjoyed many of Max’s novels, I decided to step outside my usual historical fiction comfort zone and try something completely different. Cryptozoology has never been a particular interest of mine, so I wasn’t sure whether this trilogy would grip me the way his other books have. To my surprise, it absolutely did.
The first book hooked me with its clever blend of science, mystery, and the unknown, and each instalment kept me guessing right up to the final page. Before I knew it, I was diving straight into the second and then the third book, eager to see where the story would lead. I never expected to enjoy a series featuring Neanderthals and mythical creatures as much as I did, but the way Max weaves these elements together makes the world feel both imaginative and strangely plausible.
It’s an entertaining, well written trilogy that sparks the imagination and leaves you wanting more.
