Stories about missing children will always break my heart so it was a given that I would be shattered by everything I read. I liked that I continued to be surprised by what happened right up to the end. Little Sophie deserved so much more and her family is forever broken. The mom, Helen, wasn't a wholly sympathetic character, but I did feel for her. Shoot, I felt bad for all of them.
While I enjoyed what was written, I didn't really enjoy the way it was written. It was broken up in a way that didn't work for me, but I'm sure it will be fine for others.

“Sometimes the missing aren’t meant to be found.”
What a gripping read! For us, this wasn’t just a suspenseful mystery thriller, it was also a story explored how healing can come from the most tragic and awful of circumstances. How can prosper from bad. Told in varying pov’s with seamless past/present switches, we couldn’t wait to uncover the whole story! To unveil the toll secrets, lies and deceit could weigh on a family!
‘A mother knew if her baby’s heart was still beating somewhere out there, and Helen never felt the loss of Sophie in the deepest recesses of her heart.’
K Larsen is a master manipulator and fabulous suspenseful author. She has woven a story of pain, loss, grief and showcased how closure and healing can come from the most tragic and painful of situations. See more of this review here

Imposter was a very interesting story. I liked that it wasn't a romance (I needed a bit of a break). The story had me guessing the entire time though I was pretty sure my original theory was correct all along...shocker, I was right.
I think had the book been edited a little bit better that I may have given it a higher rating. There were a lot of grammar issues and was a bit distracting at time.
But if you want a bit of a change from romance, definitely check this one out.

Still thinking about this one. The anguish, the twist, the grief, the hope and then the despair. I didn't read spoilers for this one and I'm glad I didn't. A very young girl goes missing for years and her mother never gives up hope. The family strain is inevitable. Years go by. Life settles to some extent but can never be the same. Years later the child is found? Very entertaining and engrossing read. 3.5 rounded stars.

Holy Cow!!! What did I just read? K. Larsen is a mastermind in the story telling department. Putting it in writing and pulling you in...this book had be pulled in from the very first page, till I closed the book saying...What the Heck!!!
I can only imagine what families go through when a child of their's goes missing. Not something any parent wants to go through. Imposter does just that, takes us on the journey at a fast pace what families go through.
Sophie...was dropped off at her best friends house by her father to spend the night. Then Poof, vanished...
Helen and Sam, the loving couple who have another daughter Cora and a son, Shane (Sam's son)...
live day by day...looking, waiting, hoping for one day to have Sophie home.
10 years pass at a very quick pace and Sophie returns!

I don't think I will ever tire of K Larsen's books. She does suspense and character development very well. I love when an author can make me think so much about the book long after I've finished it. This one was a sweet and satisfying taste following the last disappointing book I read. I'm in the mood for more cray cray. Thank you, K!!!

IMPOSTER is a story of love and loss, revelations and betrayals, redemption and reunion. A family's search for a missing daughter that leads to the realization that trust is a very volatile thing. And that it is OK to forgive selectively. Ugh. How do I even express how I ADORED this fast-paced phenomenonal read ? It was so compellingly good!
It took me some time to process the events that happened in this book after reading it. K Larsen gave me both an emotional and cerebral WTF experience with IMPOSTER. And I'm not surprised, because her storytelling skills are simply awesome.
As I'm writing this, I am still in a daze.
I have received an advanced copy of this book and this is an honest and fair short review voluntarily shared with ya'll.

Another fantastic read from K. Larsen.
I was so sucked into the suspense surrounding the Anderson family that I didn't even realize I read the book in one sitting until it was 2am and I was done!
Just when you think you can figure out just what she is up to with her characters, Larsen pushes the envelope just a bit further and makes you question the good and evil in people.
"Everybody has two halves. Good and evil. Which half has more power? Which half would win if called upon? When it comes right down to it, anyone is capable of anything given the right circumstances."
Imposter is the perfect name for this book! Can an imposter be good and evil? You decide.

When an imposter leads them to the truth. One imposter then became another.
Katie is making a name for herself by writing , wonderful Suspense thrillers . Jezebel left my mouth hanging.
And now Imposter has the same shocking & stunning vein running through it. The story starts with a simple thread . A girl has gone missing. Slowly the thread leads to two, three and soon the fabric of lies woven on a loom of family secrets starts to wrap around you. I sometimes felt lost as to what to believe anymore. The family shatters when the littlest baby girl goes missing. Other kids get sidelined, marriage becomes sour, couple has invisible wall separating them
Helen , the mother, just bends and bends in the desolate wind that has swept through her life...waiting to see when she breaks !
The greatest trauma in kids gone missing cases is that the family gets no closure.....unless the child returns !
closure didn’t exist, just . . . awareness.
What a twist in the story .O.M.G . Sophie , the baby girl , is found. She comes home and what should have been a peaceful time for the family brings more turmoil, more friction and more upheaval.
“You know that moment? The one where the sea kisses the sand? The feeling underyour toes as the sand erodes and slips out from under you?” Dr. White nodded. “That’s what my life has been like. A short period of bliss before it all slips away from beneath me. And the worst part is, you can always feel it happening. It’s never a surprise."
It was amazing how much destruction one person could cause. How you could spend a lifetime with someone and still not actually know them. That even the good may be capable of terrible things. Maybe no one knew what they were capable of until they were thrust in a specific moment.
Some extremely thought-provoking, in depth lines are written .
I'm so amazed by her talent , one of the best books of this year definitely.

I loved this book! K.Larsen is rapidly becoming one of my “don’t ask any questions and just read whatever the hell she writes author” Yes I do have a list of authors that applies to LOL I’ve been finding recently that I’m really enjoying thriller type reads so this one hit the mark perfectly. Great writing, with a fantastic flow I ate this book up! This author is such a magnetic storyteller, with such genuinely flawed characters that you become so wrapped up in. You hate some, you love some but they definitely make you FEEL. What I loved is that there is not just one “Imposter” here or I should say it’s not always your most evident choice. And I most certainly LOVED the ending, for me it was everything coming full circle and I couldn’t have wanted or needed anything better than that ending. Closure…., yes! It gave the character’s closure and it gave me closure that as a reader I desperately needed after that storyline. Please people as always GO IN BLIND stop reading reviews and just jump in head first. I highly recommend this book if you like thrillers or if you are in need of a change up from the same ole same ole.

I am just saying that this author brings the diabolical to the party... When I started this story I felt as though this is my family on a daily basis and could relate to their busy lives, but ohh how life changes in a blink of an eye. What you think is going on is frightening, but as the story moves forward what actually is transpiring is a diabolical, twisted, heart wrenching and down right terrifying. Enter every family living in the suburbs in America and what happens is something as a wife and mom you work so hard to never have happen to your family. The feelings that were going as I read this is thinking and feeling like a mom, but yet I was trying to separate what was going down. lives and family is not at all what you believe... Damn you K L Larsen...you are a mastermind of twistedness.............................loved it.... Curl up with a blanket and hunker down it keeps the pages turning and your interest extremely peaked... what you think is real is not, enter ...Imposter. I received a ARC copy in return for a honest review...Brilliant!

As the title would imply, not every character is who they seem. Will you figure out who is who? I certainly had my theory and I was both right and wrong. You see, K. Larsen always has a twist or two up her sleeve and even though I was looking for it.....she hit me over the head once again.

This is the story of secrets, and how those secrets can help some and destroy others.
This book is a bit of a departure for the author. However, while this story did not have the romantic elements of her other work, it still had the qualities the author is known for - complex plots, intriguing characters, and a hint of suspense.
If you read the synopsis, you know several things.
The Anderson's daughter, Sophie, disappeared.
Ten years later, she is found.
From there, the story follows the family and how they adjust to the change, with Sophie back in their lives.
As the story builds, you can tell there is a big secret that is going to hurt once revealed. Given the title of this story, I was able to see one twist coming, as you may, but if you are familiar with this author, you know she likes to keep you on your toes. So there is more to the title then I expected. That secret runs deeper and that depth has the power to destroy many.
The revelation is both heartbreaking and incredible painful. Why would someone do that? How could they live with the lie for so long? When the revelations are made, it is clear that one person is dangerous, one person is callous, and one just wants a second chance. With the truth coming out and the hate I felt for the first two, I had sympathy for the last person. Although their intentions would not good, they were clouded by their own pain and just wanted happiness.
Since I don't want to give anything away, I can't really give you my thoughts on each character. But I will say I had the most sympathy for Helen, the mother. She is faced with loss, an unsympathetic husband (at times), hope, and then utter sadness when the truth comes out and she truly feels the impact of their lies. I felt so much rage on her behalf.
It would have been interesting to get some of the male POVs, to see where their heads are at with all the changes. Instead, this story is told from several female POVs. I also would have liked more of a shocking twist. I was saddened by the additional revelation, but it didn't floor me.
Overall, I enjoyed this author's departure into the Mystery/Thriller category, and hope we'll get more from her in this genre, since it is one of my favorites.

Interesting and quick read.

I was so excited to receive my ARC of Imposter. K. Larsen is one of my favorite authors and I was looking forward to her newest solo book.
The Anderson's are your upper middle class family. 3 kids, happy parents and what appears to be a perfect life. A life that falls apart when 7 year old Sophie disappears. Where did she go? Who is responsible? How will the family survive?
The book begins with Sophie's disappearance. We then time hope 10 years. Sophie is still missing and the family is dealing, for the most part. The story is told from multiple points of view. We get the current timeline with memories from all of the points of view. I won't go into the story, as I feel you need to experience this one on your own.
As always, the author tells a wonderful story with well developed characters. You feel their pain, and man is their pain, and you live their story. There were some twists, but not nearly as many as some of her other stories. I thought I had it figured out, but I was only partially right.

Once again I was shocked to find out who the Imposter was! K. Larsen has done it again! I LOVE her writing and ability to make you think you know who is the Imposter and then....surprise, you are wrong. I love that!!!!
K. Larsen had a twist to this story I never saw coming and let me tell you I was very surprised.
I loved this book from the beginning right through to the end. You feel every emotion and love all characters.
K. Larsen puts in twists and turns that you don't see coming and that is what I love about her writing. She always has a twist that I never see coming and makes the story better.
I recommend this book to everyone, it's a great mystery and thriller with a few great twists in it. Twists you do not see coming.
Imposter needs more than 5 stars and a book that I will keep on my shelf.

My pulse is racing and my stomach is in knots......and that's all by the third chapter. K. Larsen has that magic ability to captivate and suck you in all at the same time. I was absolutely frantic trying to get to the end just to read the bomb that I was sure she would have dropped in my lap...and of course she didn't disappoint...

It was the phone call that turned a family’s world upside down. A parent’s worst nightmare. Helen and Sam Anderson appeared to be living the idyllic life. Helen was a stay at home Mum devoted to her children. Sam a hardworking and devoted father to their children Cora (11), Sophie (7) and Sam’s son Shane (15) from a previous marriage.
Helen Anderson lived her worst moment as a mother when her 7 year old daughter, Sophie went missing after being dropped off by her father for a sleepover at a neighbour’s house. Our hearts skipped a beat as K Larsen so brilliantly captured the sheer terror, panic and palpable hopelessness Helen felt at that moment, and during the aftermath of Sophie’s disappearance. We felt it all!
“Where’s our baby?” she rasped. Fear clutched at her chest as she started crying. She let out a wailing cry. “Make this go away!”
But what happened to Sophie? Was she murdered? Kidnapped? Is she still alive? After ten years of grieving yet never giving up hope that her daughter being alive, Helen’s life takes a turn when her other daughter, Cora, now 21 calls to say she had stumbled across Sophie (now 18) shivering, cold, undernourished behind a dumpster.
As the family welcome Sophie back into their lives, there are questions they so desperately need answered yet Sophie is unwilling to discuss what had transpired in her life since that fateful day.
We have to say we picked the direction of this story very quickly, but then again, we don’t feel the author was hiding it in any way given the title and as we had recently watched a documentary with the same theme, we knew what to expect plot wise, so that wasn’t a revelation for us.
What was a revelation and what kept us voraciously turning the pages, were the what’s and why for’s that we desperately needed answers to. Where had Sophie been, why is she so reluctant to talk about the ten years of her disappearance? And more importantly was everything as it seemed?
‘Good people did bad things and bad people did good things. Black and white, somewhere along the years, mixed and made gray and now the gray was all that remained.'

The desire to belong, the need to accept and we felt the raw emotion experienced by this family. It was addictive reading that’s for sure. Who is lying? Who is hiding a secret and is anyone who they say they are? You’ll have to read and find out!

It's just....it's not a Jezebel. Which is a bummer. But I can deal. I can handle it!
Larsen has a talent for writing. It's unnerving. She develops great plots and story lines and her characters are always so diverse and real. I just couldn't grasp the concept of this one.
A big thing for me: I'm really annoyed at the fact that almost every chapter started in first person but then randomly changed to third person. "Today I walked down to blah blah and I seen blah blah" "...but she didn't know who she ran into to. She didn't know what would happen." Stuff like that. Stuff that should have been caught. Stuff that makes my eye twitch.
There's no huge "twist" or shock factor in Imposter because the way the chapters are structured, the title of the book, and the way the story is told you pick up on everything from the start. But it's almost a compliment? Larsen wrote such realistic characters that you could see their predictability a mile away. Like when you see a chapter called "Ava" it's obvious who she is. Or when you see one labeled "Cora" it's obvious who she is. It was just all predictable. And that's not necessarily a bad thing! It just takes some of the suspense out of it.
I'm also frustrated with the fact that we don't get anything from Shane's perspective. Even at the end. Nothing. We don't get anything regarding him. I feel like we could have gotten a little of something regarding him. I'm irritated with the fact that people hid things for TEN YEARS and went about their lives like it was just a typical day. I don't know, that just really disturbed me.
Basically, I love K. Larsen. I love her books, I loved Jezebel, and I love her writing style. She's artistically different and I'll probably continue reading everything she puts out. But this one just wasn't all I was hoping it would be.
Larsen has a talent for writing. It's unnerving. She develops great plots and story lines and her characters are always so diverse and real. I just couldn't grasp the concept of this one.
A big thing for me: I'm really annoyed at the fact that almost every chapter started in first person but then randomly changed to third person. "Today I walked down to blah blah and I seen blah blah" "...but she didn't know who she ran into to. She didn't know what would happen." Stuff like that. Stuff that should have been caught. Stuff that makes my eye twitch.
There's no huge "twist" or shock factor in Imposter because the way the chapters are structured, the title of the book, and the way the story is told you pick up on everything from the start. But it's almost a compliment? Larsen wrote such realistic characters that you could see their predictability a mile away. Like when you see a chapter called "Ava" it's obvious who she is. Or when you see one labeled "Cora" it's obvious who she is. It was just all predictable. And that's not necessarily a bad thing! It just takes some of the suspense out of it.

4.5 "who's the imposter stars"
When a child goes missing a family struggles to keep it together and continue on. Everyone deals with grief differently, there is no right or wrong way. How do you get closure when you don't know what happened to your child? Helen has struggled with this every since Sophie, her 7 year old daughter went missing. 10 years later her prayers seem to be answered...or are they?
Mystery suspense. That K Larsen, she's tricky. She makes you think you have it figured out until the big reveal, and then you feel like you've been kicked in the gut. The last 30% of the book packs a lot of emotion and really makes you wonder what you would do if put in the same position as these characters. I enjoyed it, great read, I recommend!

As a B&R’d Mainer, I loved the Maine setting and that the author is from Maine as well! And I reeeeeally wanted to love this one but just…couldn’t. The premise had a lot of potential, but ultimately it had too many unrealistic plot points that I just couldn’t look past and was too hand-holdy. The changing character focus each chapter did add some depth to the story (which I enjoyed), but it also gave away the ending waaaaaaay too soon and overall made the book too predictable (wha wha). There were also quite a few grammar errors/editing oopsies that became a bit distracting. Overall I enjoyed the ride and the story was well crafted, but was definitely a mid thriller for me.

I listened to the audio book of this. The narrator did a decent job of changing her voice for every character and spoke clearly. The story is a tragic one involving a missing child and ends in an unexpected way. I went into this book blind. I didn't even read the blurb. I'm glad I went in blind because I feel the blurb gives too much away. The story is a bit predictable however is engaging, keeps you thinking and leaves you with an unexpected twist. Great book. I'd recommend this audio edition from Audible.

An entire family's world is torn apart when their youngest child disappears without a trace. Some members grieve and go on with their lives while others are stuck in time, never giving up hope that Sophie will return home one day. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what really happened to 7 year old Sophie. Who is lying and who is keeping deep dark secrets? Is anyone who you really think they are? Amazing story that I would highly recommend.

This book was despairingly somber. Could you or would you know if someone close to you wasn’t who they said they were? Someone masquerading as a loved one. If you had an imposter amongst those that you love, would you know? The very idea of having someone you thought you loved deceiving you is unfathomable.
The pain that this family endures is immeasurable. This is a story that will echo within every reader.

I really enjoyed this book. Written from three perspectives, that were well intertwined, it shed great insight into character.

I love a good mystery, a plot full of twists and turns that keeps me guessing. This book was the complete opposite. I figured out every little thing way before it even showed up. Very predictable.

I was ultimately surprised by the major twist and liked the idea of redemption. Solid, but not amazing, book.
