Okay, so this work has "porno" in the subtitle, but it is sort of like the author's effervescently joyful and funny and fun Bandette with explicit sexual content, and F/F only. Sort of like Archie Comics-style art and tone with Betty and Veronica (and you know, together, not swooning for some guy). Reminds me a bit of Jaime Hernandez's girl-centered Love and Rockets, it's all girls just wanna have fun, and they do. Balances light-hearted joking around with the sexy times.

This fancy hardcover collects the two volumes of the comics (thus "definitive") of the black and white tales, with one story (never before collected!) in color, and one new short story (to make it required for collectors!).

so i finished this a while ago and forgot to make a review.
so yeah as it says in the title its a porno, and its actually meant for lesbian girls but you know us guys that never stopped us from taking part :D
its just sweet and sexy stories really they are sensual and full of love and funny too which is a plus
they show many fetishes which is right up my alley i like things spicy.
only bad thing about this is i am not sure if there is more graphic novels like this out there
so a simple review for a simple comic that i loved.

This book really reminded me of those old Tijuana Bibles from back in the day. Silly black and white art, ridiculous situations, and lots of graphic shenanigans. The funny part is that the characters are just so adorable that it doesn't feel as dirty as it is (and it is really, really filthy).

The author mentioned that many of the lesbian graphic novels that she read were filled with negative or serious things and that she just wanted to make something lighthearted and fun. She accomplished her mission big time.

4 Stars for this critically acclaimed collection of the comic, Small Favors.

Full disclosure - I haven't read this particular hardcover, but I did read Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 in 2005 that are collected in this book. The hardcover first came to my attention today, because it was nominated for a 2018 Eisner "Best Graphic Album—Reprint". The Eisner's are the comics equivalent to the Oscars. The winners will be announced at the San Diego Comic Con in July. Colleen Coover has won 3 previous Eisners with writer Paul Tobin in 2013, 2016 & 2017 for the webcomic Bandette and they are nominated again for 2018. Coover has a distinctive style - clean lines and uncomplicated. Small Favors are all black and white. I read the HB does have a new color portion. Huh. I guess I will have to buy the book. You, know, for completion sake.

Her art for Small Favors is in juxtaposition for the subject matter. Somehow she is able to blend a style and subject matter that is cute, erotic, lovable, sexy, sweet, raunchy, funny, and a romantic love story. Girly Porn indeed.

I found a nice interview with Coover here: http://comicsalliance.com/colleen-coo...

Fun, sexy, sweet, humorous, LGBTQ, diverse, and pornographic as hell.

I usually don't buy new books much anymore, but I was pretty sure I wouldn't come across this at the library...

Annie is very horny. Nibbil—a tiny, fairy-like manifestation of her conscience—is assigned to Annie to make sure she stops masturbating. This does not work as Annie immediately fucks Nibbil, and continues to do so for the next 230 pages.

The black and white art is cute, but so simplified and cartoony it doesn't evoke the human body any more than a blowup doll does. And all the bodies in this are the same: thin, shaved, cis, and with the same unshaded white skin, which is frustrating because there are at least two characters of color. I only know this because there's a chapter with a glorious watercolor look to it where the brown character gets to be brown.

This is basically a series of PWPs, and I just couldn't get down with its porn logic. I wanted more character development than "Annie is very horny," but if you're looking for fun, raunchy f/f porn with threesomes and moresomes, a lot of fluids, and dirty talk that overuses the words "pretty" and "little," and also a few oddball uses of "quim" (this isn't the UK and also I can't hear that word without hating Joss Whedon now), uh, here's where you find it.

Contains: Graphic f/f sex; acts that can be read as dub-con or coercive except there's an in-universe understanding that everyone is up for everything all the time even if they initially say they don't want it, even if they're at work and a customer comes up to them and describes the taste of their girlfriend's pussy and asks what wine would go best with it. Even then. Like I said, porn logic.

Small Favors was a surprise, in every aspect. From the moment I saw it on NetGalley I was impressed by what it had to offer. Both the idea behind this graphic novel, and the art featured are amazing. It's funny and at moments touching, but what it is most of is original. I really liked the style of the art which seemed almost innocent, despite the nature of the storyline.

Note: I do recommend this read, but please bear in mind that it's 18+.

Small Favors is a lesbian erotica all about being silly and finding joy in sex. There's no real plot to speak of, just women enjoying themselves and others in a happy series of orgies and ridiculousness. Not at all what I expected from Colleen Coover, but a nice edition to the erotica genre that embraces a vibrant female sexuality for women, not the male gaze (there's not even a single male character in the book, backgrounds included!)

Wow, thank you BPL! A great, fun, cute, and sexy collection about women getting it on. The small size of one of the characters (as in, she's a magical tiny creature in the shape of a woman) and the fantasy aspect reminded me of Bondage Fairies (but no insects or other weird inter-species stuff here!) There's quite a lot of sex every which way, including bondage and some soft S&M stuff (spanking, caning, etc, but nothing too extreme). All strictly women, no men in the sex (or anywhere else, really). Recommended for anyone and everyone who likes sex (or people having sex).

Not quite sure what list I perused that made me place this on my to-read. I came across it and remembered the title. It is essentially lesbian cartoon porn with minimal story, plot, character development. Perhaps not what I generally look for in lit, but four stars for:
* consent-based, sex-positive stories
* stretching the contours of what a graphic novel can be further away from superheros.

This book was quite possibly the most beautiful combination of adorable and pervy all at once. Erotica at its finest, this book celebrates lesbian sex with abandon, mirth, and an unequaled zest and doesn't apologize at all.

This is cute and I'm glad it exists, but it is not really my thing. Not for the reason you might think. Too much focus on fluids and flavors for my taste (sorry!)

Haaaaa, this was so FUN. And hot. And silly. I loved the manifesto introduction by Kelly Sue Deconnick about the power of play and the radical defiance of silliness, how it’s like lowering a rope in a dark well that saves the people at both ends.

This is the most adorable erotic comic I have ever read. This is the story of Annie and Nibbil who is a part of her conscience who becomes manifest into a magical woman. The idea being that Nibbil will keep her from her sexually liberated ways but one look at her and Nibbil joins in with the debauchery, later in the collection this progresses to the couple having polyamorous sex-ventures with other women.

I really enjoyed how sweet the lead characters were to each other, in between the sexcapades with other women they occasionally talk about how much they love each other. Which is such a small thing but it helped me connect with their characters in ways that I don't feel like I can in most erotica I have read. All of the sex scenes are so fun, especially I think this book contains the most enthusiastic bdsm scenes I have ever encountered. I will also say how varied the collection is considering there are relatively few characters, the types of sex and sexual situations are incredibly diverse which really keeps you reading.

The whole book has a real sense of fluffy fun which combined with delightful characters and incredibly erotic erotica I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for a all women sex romp. This combination of adorable artwork, cute characters and really graphic sex scenes is something I've only really seen before in Jess Fink's work (which I love), so I especially recommend this to you if you're a fan of Chester 5000 and other Jess Fink erotica comics.

Lively, charming and diverse, with an art style that makes me think of Jaime Hernandez crossed with the classic newspaper cartoon strips. But just to be clear on the key detail: when the cover describes it as 'girly porno', it isn't kidding. I saw Netgalley had this and figured, she co-wrote an Adventure Time comic, it's from Oni, how hardcore can it be? Surely that's just a wry title for something which, at most, will be risque along the lines of Sunstone or similar. Well, no. It's absolute filth. Probably contains fewer pages with the protagonists fully dressed than Lost Girls. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, it's just not the sort of thing I'd necessarily review as a rule, if I didn't owe Netgalley some feedback. Because while any review is by definition subjective, some are more subjective than others, and if there's one thing more subjective than whether comedy is funny or not, it's whether porn is hot or not. So: if you like polymorphously* perverse girl-girl(/-girl(/-girl)) action, with no pretence at a message beyond 'Sex is fun, so why not, eh?', which dodges any risk of male gaze through coming from a female writer-artist, you'll probably like this. If not, it really isn't for you.

*Assuming that term is still appropriate if someone is changing size rather than shape. Close enough, I think.

Well, *this* is a side of Colleen Coover I never expected to see!! I'll confess, I'm a bit prudish so the uninhibited antics of the characters was a little outside my comfort zone from a morality standpoint, but I thought that it was well done and...accessible, I suppose? While this is VERY explicit, it comes across innocent and lighthearted. It's fantasy, since aside from the major plot point about being able to have sex with your conscience (what's going on *there*, I wonder?) about 3/4 of the way through the book I realized that there are absolutely no male characters anywhere in the book--in the background or anywhere! So I understand that what takes place in a story isn't necessarily being advocated or discouraged explicitly by the author, but when things that are "taboo" in real life are depicted in fiction, it can strike a nerve. See Lost Girls by Alan Moore for more on that, ha.
I'm not a "free love" advocate--I think sex is complicated and complicates things, and shouldn't be considered frivolously. But I also think that we don't talk openly about it in this culture like we should, and Small Favors is, to say the least, a great conversation starter!

I never thought that I'd be into a lesbian porno graphic novel but Small Favors is terribly charming and sex positive that you can't help falling in love. There are several stories, some just a couple of pages long, but it always ends up with everybody having sex. There's not much in terms of plot and the one main arc is that Nibbil is Annie's conscience in humanoid form, supposedly to keep Annie from masturbating all the damn time but she turned out to be a companion and enabler. This was unexpected!

Celebrating the Polymorphous Perverse, in Girly Porn Style

Gosh, I haven't had occasion to use the phrase "polymorphous perverse" since my 70's sociology days, and here it is in all of its splendor. The "perverse" part isn't judgmental; it just means beyond the usual social norms. To quote a Wiki summary, "Freud theorized that some are born with unfocused sexual libidinal drives, deriving sexual pleasure from any part of the body. The objects and modes of sexual satisfaction are multifarious, directed at every object that might provide pleasure...Lacking knowledge that certain modes of gratification are forbidden, the polymorphously perverse child seeks sexual gratification wherever it occurs."

Well, that's a little heavy, (actually way, way too heavy, but I really wanted to use "polymorphous perverse" in a sentence), but it gets across the idea. These stories simply celebrate the unbridled pleasures of sex, and are presented with joy, good humor, and cheerful abandon. Every article or blurb about Coover starts with a phrase along the lines of "lesbian-themed". Well, I guess so, but that's way too limiting. Our heroine is free, open and polymorphous, and since she's a woman and the characters in the stories are all women, I guess this is "lesbian-themed".

But the basic message and point here is joy, honesty and pleasure. Annie has been saddled with a miniature "guardian" because of her uninhibited ways. Fortunately for both of them, it turns out that Annie's guardian, Nibbil, is as sexually adventuresome and enthusiastic as is Annie. The two of them have a
riotously good time exploring each other's capacity for pleasure and satisfaction. As the story continues we pick up shy Sage and next door neighbor Yuriko, and then uptight Janus, which just serves to multiply the opportunities for coupling and play, (and for Annie and Nibbil to develop a more complex relationship).

This is remarkably explicit and yet totally innocent. The encounters are enthusiastic and one hundred percent consensual. Because it is drawn in an "Archie & Veronica comics" style, the explicit content seems cheerfully and wildly out of place, sort of as if Veronica and Betty had pulled out dildos at the malt shop.

"Small Favors" has been around as about seven comics, an individual color one-shot, and two volume collections. This Omnibus collects everything, so you get the full story arc from the two volumes that were collected, as well as the full color stand alone story, as well as a variety of bonus items, (prelim drawings and the like).

If you've ever wondered how explicit material can be "cute", "funny", "lovable", "sweet", "safe", "naughty", "filthy", "charming", "perky", and "sexy", (as various fans have described it), well, here's your chance to find out. This was a cheerful treat, which is saying a lot.

(Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

This has been in my TBR pile for close to a year. It was a gift from Amy because she knows I like stuff like this. The book is a collection of all the Small Favors stories, and it is wonderful. The art is amazing. The story, about a young woman named Annie who inherits a personification of her conscience named Nibbil because she is too sexual and can’t stop masturbating, is silly, but what porno plot line is not? And from that setup you get a riotous collection of sweet, dirty, playful girl on girl sex romps. Annie and Nibbil fall in love, hang out, cook together, go shopping, and have a lot of sex along the way. It’s a great reminder that sex can be fun and imaginative and that there shouldn’t be any shame in it. It just is something that is fun to do, especially when it is just girls! 😁 The comic book treatment keeps it from being too “fleshy” and the stories stay light. I can’t say enough about the art—it’s so cute. There could be more curvy girls in the story, but the racial diversity is good. Anyway, a cute, silly way to end the reading year.

Well now, this turns out to be very much the "girly porno" mentioned in the subtitle. Playful graphic sex fantasies involving only women where everyone wants everyone to have a, um, positive outcome with zero jealousy. The gimmick of the title — "small favors" — involves the main character's embodied conscience who is kind of like one of those little devils or angels who pops up above your shoulder and tells you what to do or not do. She's an angel named Nibbil who gets very turned on by our heroine's exploits and decides to join in, although she's only a few inches tall. This part reminded me of David Sedaris' early story about working at a magazine writing erotic stories for men with a fetish about sexual encounters where they meet gigantic women or they are shrunk down and encounter regular-size women. Anyway, these stories are always playful and light, absolutely no darkness with simple, solid artwork that gets the job done. I enjoyed it.

What a delightful, light hearted and joyful romp! Happy women enjoying the heck out of sex with other women and playing fantasy games. Charming, sweet, and extremely explicit. I loved it!

And yet, can't turn my brain off, and there were a few things that I really didn't like:
I did not care for the collect 'em all exoticism -- it's right on the line between inclusivity (all women as beautiful) and uncomfortable tokenism
I did not like the issue that features a white explorer complete with native bearers tracking a jungle cat -- I mean, yay furries, but offensive representation
Why is everyone so skinny??? Bring in some zaftig ladies -- they are beautiful, too
A little surprised at the emphasis on penetration -- but this is a specific set of kinks, here, and there's nothing wrong with that
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Kelly Sue DeConnick of Bitch Planet fame, who wrote the introduction to this compilation, says that Small Favors "could not be cuter if it came wrapped in fluffy bunnies and ribbons made of giggle." Colleen Coover's infinitely adorable lesbian erotica comic, made by a woman for women, is all of that and more. The plot is basically this: a hyper-sexual woman finds herself partnered with the pixie-like and size-changing manifestation of her own conscience, who first is tasked with making her "proper" but is much better at making her the opposite. There is not a drop of seriousness to be found among all the playful winking, and I'd hope even the most puritan of readers could appreciate a story so unabashed in its joy.
