When her mentor goes inexplicably missing, gargoyle cadet Tiffany Noboru and her best friend Hedika Greene put their ghost hunting skills to the test in a harrowing journey across the world of gargoyles. To find him, they must brave what lies outside the Hollow Mountain and beyond the protection of their walls, but avoiding ghosts on the Endless See is only the beginning. Strange and dangerous creatures roam the blighted landscape between their home and their uncharted destination, the gargoyle sanctuary of Freefall, whose dying populace guards a terrible secret about her own world that some are willing to do anything to protect.

Better Hero Army is the (really cool) pen name of American author Evan Ramspott. Under the Better Hero Army name, Evan writes about zombies, gargoyles, fairies, aliens, and pretty much anything that doesn't belong in the mainstream (i.e., he writes about cool stuff under the BHA name). He has a really cool website at www.betterheroarmy.com, he's sometimes active on Twitter @BetterHeroArmy, and he's in a bunch of cool GoodReads groups.

Evan's other (not so cool) works of fiction are mainstream stories about social inequities and hardships (and are real downers by comparison).

When Evan isn't being a (cool) writer, he has a family and a day job and enjoys all three equally. Oh, and he likes the beach because it's also cool.

Middle Grade Gargoyle Fantasy Book 2

I did not read the first book so please keep that in mind with my review, I may have missed something. I did really struggle with this book, the summary was interesting and looked like a fun new fantasy and I was excited to learn more about the gargoyle realm. I learned a bit but there were in my mind unexplained holes in the story that really never really made sense. Here's an example: Gargoyles are people that died and are still dead but reborn into a gargoyle protector but can be killed, get hungry, sleep and act very much alive but we are reminded in the story over and over that they're dead? It just never added up for me. I wanted to know how they became gargoyles and that was never explained. They fight off ghosts that attack and kill people and honestly the further I got it just felt more like a contrived stretch of a story. I wanted to like it going in but quickly became frustrated with the main character and story holes. I guess read the first book if you like the summary and decide from there if you want to continue the series.

The narrator was great and fun to listen to.

Parents: Overall clean. I don't remember any bad language so if it was there it was minimal and no f-bombs, violence isn't overly graphic and there weren't any intimate bedroom scenes.

When I got this book I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. I find fairies, dragons, and gargoyles interesting story topics. When I started reading this I got drawn into the story right away and got interested in where the story was heading. So much happened with the characters in this book and you learn about them along the way. Tiffany Noboru is the main character who is a strong and determined girl who fights to reach the ending she wants. I did not know that there was a book before this called Girlgoyle so I want to read that also. I really enjoyed this book.
I got this for free in a Goodreads Giveaway.

My review is based on the audiobook. I really enjoyed the world created for this series. The characters are interesting and not your stereotypical supernatural tropes. That being said Tiffany's lack of self esteem grated on my nerves - there was no personal growth for majority of the book. The narrator did a fantastic job keeping the flow and bringing the story to life
