Lunchtime Nibbles
Volume One

Two short, fiery stories with enough spice to satisfy the biggest carnal appetites.

* * * * *

Cheese and Pickle

Harvey and Greg work in the same office. Of course Harvey noticed Greg—who wouldn’t notice the beardie hottie with muscles aplenty to silence even the noisiest team meeting? Then a home visit turns into a car-rocking tryst of spectacular proportions, and suddenly Tuesday lunchtimes become the highlight of Harvey’s week.

But will a quickie with the recalcitrant Greg be enough, or will something more meaningful develop?

* * * * *

The Detonator

Featuring Tork and Adam from The Invasion of Tork series

Adam is a sex god. At least, that’s what he tells himself.

Tork is a green-haired mind-reader.

They haven’t been together for long, but when Adam realises Tork’s birthday is coming up, he knows he has to make this the best birthday ever. But what to buy someone like Tork? And how much to spend?

Every time Tork calls, Adam’s knees turn to jelly, and he’s not so much a sex god as a whimpering idiot.

Can Adam take control and make the birthday dinner perfect?

What happens when the kitchen sparks end up in the bedroom with Tork and Adam naked?

Cameo appearance by Dickens the cat.

Absolutely loved these two short stories.Sexy and Cute.

Just delicious.I recently read Billie Jean by these Authors and absolutely loved it and these two stories were just as good.

Cheese and Pickle

Harvey has been crushing on his team leader,Greg, for ages.Imagine his surprise and delight when Greg takes him out one lunchtime on a work related issue and things get hot and heavy in the car.
A year on they have been meeting every Tuesday lunchtime for more of the same.Harvey was just adorable. He's constantly fretting about his liaisons with Greg.He spends his time looking forward to every Tuesday and day dreaming about so much more between them. But he's terrified of pushing Greg away,so after they've got down and dirty he rambles on about home improvements and eats cheese and pickle sandwiches with Greg. This was just so funny and endearing!

The Detonator

Adam Dryden-man magnet and butt extraordinaire-had fallen.

Tork's birthday is fast approaching and Adam is in a total tail spin. He's fussing and worrying about presents, decorations and wants it to be special. What better than penis shaped balloons, microwave food and a home make cake with enough butter to sink a ship!

If you've read anything by these Authors you'll totally love these two stories. So damn funny,so damn cute and just enough sexy times.
Highly recommend!!

Lunchtime Nibbles consists of two short stories: Cheese and Pickle, an office romance elevated, and The Detonator, a bonus sexy romp written for those of us who may have complained a tiny little bit about the limited steam in the Tork and Adam books.

*looks around shiftily*

What? *cough* #wasntme *cough*

I'm going to start with Tork and Adam, because who else? I fell in love with these two, especially Tork (always Tork!) in The Invasion of Tork. Tork was so wounded and Adam so cocky.

But now Adam is super anxious to celebrate Tork's birthday the right way. He obsesses over cologne; he buys penis balloons; he bakes a cake. Sort of. The butter . . . that was an oversight.

And then there's the sex. Let's just say it was worth the wait. I loved watching Adam come undone.

If you don't know who Tork and Adam are, why the hell not? And if you do, you'll lick this story and make it yours.

Moving on to Cheese and Pickle.

*happy sigh*

THIS is how you write a romance in under 100 pages. Al and Claire nailed it.

Harvey is a little uptight. He is idealistic and wants so badly to do good at the nonprofit where he works, but his colleagues don't seem to care. Then there's his scruffy bear of a team leader, Greg.

Harvey is the narrator of the story, and he's completely in love with Greg. Every Tuesday, they have a standing date in the back of Greg's car in an abandoned parking lot. Every Tuesday, Harvey is giddy and packs cheese and pickle sandwiches. And every Tuesday, they go at it hot and heavy, and then discuss home remodeling.

Until one week Greg doesn't come to work. On a Tuesday. Greg NEVER misses Tuesdays!

Even though Harvey knows almost nothing about Greg, Greg feels like a fully realized character. These authors know how to weave pathos into their stories without drama or angst. There is such poignancy in the way Harvey dresses up for Greg, the way he wants; he wants so much.

And the ending made me smile and maybe sniffle a little. Because even though there's no epilogue, there is so much HOPE.

Okay. I give 1 star to the first story, Cheese and Pickle. The moment I started it, I felt like I had stumbled down a pit into someone's dream, only I didn't get to see the start. I couldn't get a sense of Harvey's job. There was no proper narrative, no proper flow of the story. It was completely random from start to end. So this was very shocking for me, as apart from one other story, I have usually enjoyed all the books that I've read by these authors. But this one was so far off from my usual experience that it wasn't even in the same building as I was!

I give 5 stars to the second story, The Detonator. Adam and Tork are invincible! Their characters are so deeply set in my mind that no matter the amount of time which may have passed since I last read their story, whenever I read a new one, I can continue from right where I left off. Adam is just so adorable! His quirkiness, his acceptance and attitude over his good looks hot bod, it is all thrown out of the window when it comes to Tork. And it is always a delight to read. They both just make me laugh and smile everytime I visit with them.

So the average becomes 3 stars out of 5.

When I finished this book, I could totally picture Al Stewart and Claire Davis giving it to me like: "Here, take this. We slayed your life and stomped on your heart with If I Should Stumble, but this will make you feel better. And it really did! These two short stories will soothe your insides. They 're sexy, sweet, and downright adorkable.

Cheese and Pickle

This is an office romance, and we all know what a slut I am for them. Harvey is the narrator of this story. Harvey is full of hope and dreams. He's sweet, kind, and awkward. He also has the hugest crush on his team leader, Greg.

Greg is this broody man, all muscle and hair! Yum. He keeps giving Harvey all these scary glances. Harvey just keeps wondering how he looks like naked. Until one Tuesday, when he doesn't have to wonder anymore.

Tuesdays are for lunchtime sex in a car, followed by cheese and pickle sandwiches!

And time passes and Harvey's crush becomes love. But what about Greg? There's sex, sandwitches and small talk, but there's no real talk! You know how it is sometimes, when you have something good and important going on, and you don't want to screw it up by talking about it? Yeah, that.

But everything ends well, and the ending is all kinds of awesome and swoon-worthy. Except one scene that almost gave me a heart attack, thank you very much!

P.S. "arsecock ecstasy" is my new favorite phrase.

The Detonator
You guys...it's Tork and Adam! There might have been some complaining by some people about the somewhat lack of steam...(it was Dani, I just agreed with her because she's my bestie and I'm supportive). Ask and you shall receive!

I'll say it again; it's so amazing to see Tork in such a good place! He's confident and comfortable in his skin. He realy shines! But Adam? Adam is everything here! He's the star!

It's Tork's birthday and Adam wants to surprise him with cake and presents! It was so fun seeing "god sex/drop dead gorgeous/man magnet and butt extraordinaire" Adam, becoming a ball of insecurity when Tork is concerned. He's such a dork!

Tork turns Adam inside out in bed, and makes him lose all control. That was a nice (and hot as hell) surprise...

If you haven't read Tork and Adam's story, you really need to go grab these books. I 've loved these characters from the moment I met them on page, and The Detonator was just the cherry on top.

Cheese and pickles:
So adorable, this office romance story between Greg and Harvey, who is such a sweet guy, so funny, especially when his drunk. He has a crush on Greg, and soon finds himself hooking up with him on a once a week bases. This was a quick read but sweet, and sexy very light on drama. Did I want more?! Heck yes, it definitely had potential to be longer but, I guess that's always good sigh when you want more.❤

4 stars!

The Detonator:
I didn't think Adam/Tork could be more adorable but I was wrong. I loved seeing this side of Adam, nervous unsure of what to get Tork, for his birthday. He had me smiling and sighing at the same time. It was great to see how much thought he put into his gifts for him and see how much their love has grown. Tork, always so reassuring and caring to Adam I'm glad he got to see the decorations, cause they were definitely unique. Lol! ❤

Well, this one was a mixed bag of shorts for me.

------------------------------------------------

Cheese and Pickle:

I found this short to be too cryptic until way too close to the end of the story.

What was Harvey to Greg? Anything at all, other than a convenient Tuesday orgasm?

They don't even have one another's cell phone numbers, even though their trysts have been happening for a year.

I did like how it ended, but I felt like strangling a bitch due to all of Harvey's obsessive monologuing before that point, so around 3 stars for the first story.

------------------------------------------------

The Detonator:

Love Tork. Love Adam. Love Tork *and* Adam.

Basically, this is the story of Adam trying his damnedest to give Tork a birthday to remember, then freaking the hell out that he's chosen things that Tork will hate.

Of course that's not going to happen, though, as Tork recognizes Adam's inept, off-kilter attempts for what they are. Heart-felt gestures of his affection for Tork.

And they all live happily until the next charming and humorous installment, so 4.5 stars for the second story.

------------------------------------------------

My ARC copy of the stories was provided by the authors in exchange for a fair, unbiased review.

Cheese and Pickles
In one same sentence from serious round-table talk to "tried—and failed—not to wonder what he looked like naked". Knee bashing, glasses sliding, I giggled so hard I think I snorted.... :o it was like a fresh rain on my face. Great way to start a story
But fucking hell I should've known of course there was much more. No plain story, not just physical hotness, not something ordinary no no nope. It has a layers which dropped my chin to the table. Ha!...yes there you are.....the (knowing but not know when) unexpected turn!!...always happily surprised. Great story.
There was one moment that was so visually described and appeals to the imagination
it made me....*cough* squirm
It did say "fiery story with enough spice to satisfy the biggest carnal appetites"

The Detonator
This story was a gift....because...hello....Tork and Adam
Ohh Adam there is nothing wrong with your self-esteem I welcome it <3 you are indeed drop-dead gorgeous. And the luckiest man to have Tork at your side :).
Birthday....just a fucking birthday....all that stress, he will give Tork the best...he is so madly in love and so unsure and in doubt if he ever will be enough for Tork
The decorations....I wish I could peek around the corner...
Tork....the best boyfriend ever, especially with reading Adams mind. They are both great personalities and I love how they are together.... Two individuals but also One

No one will ever complain about the hot sexiness.....because damn...<3

I adored the first story, I was a little bit at a loss , not sure where this was going, for the first 2/3 but the following third was wonderful and pulled it all together. I think Harvey and Greg were so stinking sweet, swoon!!

I initially wanted to read this because of Tork and Adam, it was fun to touch base with this couple again. It is a treat to see how far Adam has come, I kind of felt sorry for him a bit here though, I hat the self doubt...fine line with that.

Lunchtime Nibbles is exactly that - two stories short enough to be read on your lunch break.

The first one, Cheese and Pickles, tells us about two men who for about year take a lunch together once a week, a lunch where eating food isn't the most important part of their shared time. It's part office romance and part hot sexy times and part awkwardness and part miscommunication.

Harvey works for a non-profit, eager to do the best he can, but noticing that his co-workers don't seem to care as much. He's got a standing lunch date (every Tuesday, y'all) with his group leader Greg, during which they consume cheese and pickles sandwiches and each other's - well, you know. They eat in the car, they get hot and heavy in the car, and then they talk about work in the car. They don't talk much outside of this, and Harvey doesn't quite know where he stands. He's in love, truly, madly, deeply, but doesn't know much about Greg at all, and this is making him wonder if Greg sees him as just a distraction of sorts.

Until that one Tuesday where Greg doesn't show up for work. And Harvey freaks out. He freaks out so bad that he insists on driving to Greg's place and then... well, you read this for yourself.

I will say that this is how you write a short story with fully realized characters, and I'm in awe of these two authors for their craft. The way Harvey is written, his eagerness to impress Greg, his self-doubts, the care he takes dressing on Tuesday mornings, the sadness and confusion that comes through in his thoughts - you can't help but feel for him, can't help but want to hug him and tell him it will all be okay. And yet, there's strength in him too, conviction that something is terribly wrong, and he doesn't hesitate to follow that conviction all the way through, despite of how that makes him look.

And though we only really meet Greg seen through Harvey's eyes, he too felt complete, even if Harvey misunderstood and couldn't see what was right there in front of him all that time.

*******

In The Detonatar, which I read first, because Tork and Adam, we see Adam being his usual self. Which is to say, completely out of his depth, because he's trying to make Tork's upcoming birthday the best ever, and he's freaking out because he has no idea what to buy for Tork. Aftershave seems a great choice, but which one?

Having settled on one called The Detonator *snorts*, he also buys penis-shaped balloons and bakes a cake, and forgets a crucial ingredient, but it's all still perfect because Tork loves him. This short glimpse into their lives after The Invasion of Adam also gives us the one thing many readers have been waiting for. What is it? Well, you read this and find out. Totally worth the wait.

Whaddaya mean, you don't know Tork and Adam? Read The Invasion of Tork (Tork and Adam, #1) by Claire Davis and The Invasion of Adam (Tork and Adam, #2) by Claire Davis . Do it. Do it now.

Seriously, folks, these two authors are utterly brilliant in what they write together, and you should read everything they've written, ever.

That was adorable. Two sweet, quirky stories full of heart. I loved the little ways these characters went out of their way to bring each other happiness. Both stories were funny and light, but they felt layered. There's depth and emotionality here, even with so few pages. I want more.

I have fallen in love with the short read. Kids, work, and a pretty much helpless husband (Just a joke Aaron!) makes reading—and everything else—more of a luxury than it used to be. So Lunchtime Nibbles, with it's collection of two short stories was perfect for me!

Cheese and Pickle

I adored this!

Harvey's job isn't exactly what he hoped it would be when he graduated with a plan to change the world for the better. He only makes it through the week of supervising a lot of people that don't really care about their jobs by focusing on his weekly parking lot tryst with office hottie, Greg. But Harvey wants something more, and Greg doesn't seem to be getting the message.

I love Harvey and his kick-ass sister who knows her brother deserves more than a lunchtime quickie!

Lovely, heartwarming and hot.

The Detonator (Tork and Adam 2.5)

What can I say?!! It's Tork and Adam and it's like a Christmas gift to all their fans, of which there are many!

Adam's on a mission to make the first of Tork's birthdays they are spending together amazing. But what do you get someone as perfect as Tork? Even a self-proclaimed sex-god can't have all the answers!

It was wonderful to see more of Adam's vulnerable side and, as always, Tork understands his boyfriend completely, even recognzing the bits Adam may not want people to see.

The Detonator is perfectly sweet, funny and Adam is absolutely charming. And, as expected, together, Tork and Adam are explosive!

Claire Davis and Al Stewart have this wonderful ability to create characters that are sympathetic and relatable even as they find themselves in sometimes outlandish situations. Both hot and heartwarming, Lunchtime Nibbles is a winner! The chemistry, as with all Davis/Stewart stories, is top-shelf, and the steam? Purrrfect!

Claire Davis and Al Stewart are brilliant at short story romances and Lunchtime Nibbles is no exception. Featuring two charming and sexy stories, Cheese and Pickle and The Detonator, the authors have once again proven that great characters and interesting storylines need not be limited to lengthy tomes.

Cheese and Pickle: Can I just start by saying, *this* is how you write a very short story that feels bigger and more detailed than it actually is. The pacing, the style, the characters – it’s near perfect and only improves upon re-reading.

The office romance is probably my favourite trope, so this one had me at ‘co-workers’. When eyeing up his team leader leads to trading handjobs and sandwiches, shy but eager Harvey is keen to take things further with big, beautiful (but equally shy) Greg. Unfortunately, neither of them seem capable of saying the words out loud. It’s going to take something dramatic to break their reserves, maybe even something life or death.

Cheese and Pickle packs a punch for a little story and all credit to the authors for being able to do this without bogging it down in unnecessary details. I thought it was sexy and supremely romantic.

The Detonator: If you have not read the authors’ Tork and Adam series, stop now and go get it. There are two amazing books that feature the most unlikely boys falling in love. This story was written as a gift to fans of the series who wanted to see a little more heat between our two favourite characters. Let’s just say they delivered on that quite nicely.

This story revolves around clueless Adam trying to find the perfect birthday gift for his green-haired boyfriend, Tork. While his usual over-confident, arrogant attitude insists on throwing away money on expensive gifts and ridiculous decorations, he starts to second-guess his choices. Will his formerly homeless boyfriend think it’s a waste to throw good money away on frivolous things? If so, what could he possibly give him that would make Tork happy?

Watching Adam struggle to figure out what will please Tork is both funny and delightfully sweet. He always tries to come across as being unsympathetic and too cool to care about anyone else, but then these moments arise where you see how much he actually cares about Tork and how much he craves Tork's good opinion.

As for the heat factor, it’s pretty smokin’ hot. These two have chemistry galore but they also give each other the safety of being themselves, of being loved and cherished no matter what. And really, what store bought present could ever match that gift?

I received an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Is there anything more British than The cheese and pickle sandwich? urgh! maybe The steak and kidney pie? Sorry just kidding. I always look forward to reading a new book of one of my favourite British author duos. The idea to morph the tasteful sandwich into the connection for an office fling created, at least for me as an obsessed person, a very delightful read during lunch break.

It's like your crush on a movie or tv-serie. You just start fangirling when you hear about a sequel. Nothing more to say.

Mehh short story... didn't care for it. Ridiculous plot with an obnoxious MC and a happy ending.

Rumor has it, some little birdie chirped in the authors ears lamenting the lack of steam in their stories. I wonder who that birdie could have been? *cough* Dani *cough* Well, Lunchtime Nibbles certainly delivered! Though you might want to reconsider reading this one at the office, even on your lunch break , 'cause, *phew*, I am still fanning myself!

Cheese and Pickle
Harvey and Greg have been working together for over a year. Tuesday's have become the days they get out of the office for lunch...and a little something extra. The trouble is, Harvey doesn't know if they are friends with benefits or something more. He really wants the more. But how to actually approach Greg? It's pretty amazing when people have an easier time with sex than with words. People are weird. There was a bit near the end that about gave me a freakin' heart attack, but thankfully, that bit prompted our guys to have an actual conversation. Cheese and Pickle is a hot little story, that I quite enjoyed!

The Detonator
Tork and Adam! Love love LOVE them! And we finally get some smexytimes! Color me ecstatic :-)

It's Tork's birthday, and I cannot tell you how much joy I got out of Adam freaking out. He tries hard to be cool as a cucumber, but when he loses his composure, it is a sight to behold! I loved this short and would gladly read more about Tork and Adam, with or without the smexy (though I thoroughly enjoyed the smexy!!).

Another winner by these fabulous authors!

Cheese and Pickle ~ 2 Stars

Cheese and Pickle wasn't a bad office romance, but it did next to nothing for me. Maybe we were just dropped into the thick of the story too quickly; Harvey's 'quirky' daydreaming and buying beds big enough for two before he's even slept with the guy or had a proper date was just... sad. Thankfully, the ending picked up and a little in terms of my attachment to the characters and their attachment to each other.

The Detonator ~ 4 Stars

I think it's safe to say that more Tork and Adam are always going to put a smile on my face. And, if these two finally get a little steamy - on page! - I won't complain.

Lunchtime Nibbles comprises two delightful love stories
Cheese and Pickle
Harvey has been having a secret affair with his Greg, hooking up every tuestday at lunch time. Harvey thought it would become something more, with time, but after a year he must recognise all his dreams of a Greg as his boyfriend are beginning to crumble. Then, on their first anniversary, the unexpected happens, when Greg does not turn up…
This was such a cute story. I loved Harvey from the start, with his geeky attitude and his good intentions. Harvey is the shy boy who always gets dumped, or hooks-up with the wrong boy. He's crazy about Greg, but tries to play it cool, counting the number of times he passes by his table so as not to seem obvious. That's so sweet. Greg is a mystery, a big bear of a man, and we do not find out until the end what his real feelings are. I was enthralled by this sweet and sexy story from the start, and fell hard for both characters. I would love to know what happens next!

The detonator
It is Adam's boyfriend's birthday, and Mr. Awesome wants to use the chance to show Tork what an amazing boyfriend Adam can be. But choosing presents for something as special as Tork is not easy at all, and Adam finds himself changing his mind and, even worse, convinced he is a completely failure of a boyfriend. Fortunately, Tork is there to save the day, as always…
I cannot get enough of these two. They are such charming characters. If I had to decide which one I like the most, I would be in trouble… but maybe I would choose Adam, because his oscillation between arrogance and insecurity, and his eagerness to please Tork, make him most endearing. But I also love Tork, with his strong personality, his emotional baggage and his no-nonsense attitude. They are perfect for each other, and if you missed finding out about their sexual chemistry in the previous stories, you should certainly read this one. They are hot, really hot together.
I hope there is more Adam and Tork on the way. They are addictive!

(Editor's Review)
These two short stories are, I think, the closest Claire Davis and Al Stewart have come to writing throwaway romance. Of course, it would be an absolute crime to throw away anything that these authors write, But that's not what I mean. You see, I've been reading and editing Claire and Al's work for more than two years now, and they have a talent for writing the real, gut-wrenching stuff.

In this respect, The Detonator is somewhat misleading, because all the other stories in the Tork and Adam series are profoundly deep and deal with serious social issues, such as mental ill-health, homelessness, low self-esteem and PTSD. The Detonator, on the other hand, offers some resolution to the saga of Tork and Adam's ongoing relationship. In other words, this is one for the readers, and I do believe it was written because the readers requested it, which is nice. :D

Cheese and Pickle doesn't quite escape the deep stuff. It's also the kind of story that some might find hard to believe could happen in real life, and yet it does. I would wager there are a great many of us who have experienced, at some point in our lives, a relationship where the level of intimacy far exceeds the level of communication.

Whilst these two stories are great for a lunchtime nibble, they'll no doubt give people something to think/talk about for the rest of the afternoon.

"Did you see what Mavis was reading in the staffroom at lunchtime?"
"No? What?"
"Pure filth. It's shocking."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I must ask her for the title..."

Cheese and Pickle

This was a very funny, I loved Harvey. The story is told from his point of view. It is very easy to get in touch with his feelings. He tends to make this interpretations on every little thing that happens, it could be the most insignificant thing to others, but for Harvey, when is something about Gregg, even a simple change of the usual clothes have an important meaning. It’s a bit sad to see how much struggle this two have to make things work, it becomes a little frustrating at times, but that might be the fun part of it.

I had an issue about this, It felt like it was lacking a little character development, mostly in what concern to Gregg, but I also felt I didn’t get to know too much of Harvey either. Maybe this was on purpose because it did add a little mystery to the relationship, which was quite good, but I ended it wanting to know so much more of this beautiful characters.

The Detonator

I loved to see how things are working for Adam and Tork, I love this characters so much. This time the story is told from Adam’s point of view, who is preparing to celebrate Tork’s birthday, but he starts second guessing every choice he’d made. I just couldn’t help to feel bad for Adam, generally not a very sympathetic character because he’s always hiding behind some made up hard cover, but this time the reader gets to know his true self, so full of insecurities.

Another great story with this pair as main characters, I can’t get enough of them. The way their relationship has growth is amazing, they shared some beautiful moments together. It is nice to see how different thing are for each other, how extremely different their personalities are, which makes such and interesting read.

I think it can be more enjoyable if the reader already know the characters, nonetheless I think it could be appreciated too as a stand-alone.

In general, both stories are just so lovely, truly beautiful. I think anxiety and insecurity are the elements connecting this two stories, it really seemed like Adam and Harvey had so much in common on terms of this features. I truly recommend this to any reader who love sweet and fun stories.

These two stories are smart, sexy, and fun. If you're looking for something steamy but that's firmly outside the box, this should do it for you.

Cheese and Pickle

This is adorable and funny. I don't know what makes somewhat illicit car hook-ups hot, but that's essentially the premise here. Harvey and Greg work together, and their interactions go from Harvey ogling to light flirting to getting it on during their weekly lunches. The sex is hot enough to melt paint, but interestingly, it's not terribly graphic. The scenes are really well done.

There's some humor aimed at the trope of men's insecurities and hiding their real feelings, but Harvey and Greg do eventually get themselves together. Like their intimate moments, it's not overdone, and it's easy to relate to Harvey's worries. When they figure out there's more between them than steaming up the windows, the sweetness is enough to cause cavities. It all works perfectly.

The Detonator

This is a terrific side story about Adam and Tork. It's not necessary to have read the others, but I found it helped with context. In particular, Adam is incredibly unlikable on his best days, but it's all surface. It's hard to get a sense of that without the other stories.

That said, fans of Adam and Tork who wanted something hotter between them should be pleased. Of course, it wouldn't be the two of them without Adam making a mess and Tork soothing his ruffled feathers. They're a lot of fun together. Not only that, this story is hilarious. Anyone who has ever had to by the "perfect" gift for someone can relate to Adam's misadventures. His party decorations are awful in the most charming way. It's nice to see these guys enjoying their happy ending.

For good fun, relatable situations, and understated but very hot sexy times, this gets 5 stars.
