The Games are held in honour of the Emperor’s beautiful daughter and many travel from far and wide to compete. Each province sends at least one team, including the hordes from the North. There are none that are feared and respected more for their skill and bravery in battle than the Riders of the North.
The Northerners are the historic protectors of the Empire and, on arrival in the capital city, their young warriors are quickly drawn into a complex world of intrigue, plots, assassination attempts, and hidden alliances. As the tournament unfolds it becomes clear that the long-held but fragile era of peace is coming to an end, and an Age of Blood is upon them.
An epic fantasy story of adventure, battles, bravery, fear, doubt, trust, friendship, and above all, loyalty,
Biography I love to travel, at least I did before the pandemic. I like to observe the world past and present and imagine it as a more exciting and magical place! I am a history graduate so my writing encompasses a medieval fantasy world with battles, horsemanship, intrigue, and magic. I have published short stories and full novels, genre being fantasy and science fiction. I also contribute news and social commentary articles on politics and current affairs through a range of media. The Riders of the North is a series of books which include the short story prequels; The Horse Lord and Rose's Story and the full novel,' The Games'. I am currently working the next book in this series, working title 'The Clockwork City and welcome any interest in ARC's as now in final proof stage. I would love to hear from you. I read the pre-release chapter and was intrigued to read the full book when released. I bought it as soon as it came out (had a reminder it was out from having signed up for the pre-release, nice touch) I read The Games over the weekend, as it is just my kind of book so couldn't put it down. Lots of action, good plot, believable characters (heroic but with flaws - I hate 'perfection') and great imagery.
Anyone who likes Lord of the Rings type of 'epic' reads will enjoy this. Good use of humour to bond the characters together and very good battle descriptions, highly visual descriptions. A really good read, had to finish it and I like that the story does tie up things but leaves some threads for a follow up book. I hope this is going to be a series. The Games
