This was so fun to listen to! Quentin and Abby make a great couple and I loved Quentin's eventual claiming his mate attitude and actions. Here's a few things I think you should know about this PNR novella:

~ Quentin and Abby have been hooking up for months but even though he knows she's his mate he hasn't really broached the subject with her. This is due to "the charming and funny details of a shifter-filled small town" that's mentioned in the blurb. Apparently her wolf pack doesn't believe in cross species matings. Not so with Quentin's people and he's been subtly trying to get her to see that just because they aren't they same species doesn't mean that they can't be mates.

~ Though Abby's age isn't mentioned she felt young to me. Like early 20's. I found her a bit naive. She was also stubborn.

~ Quentin is a rock steady guy whose's also a bit too reserved - at least in the love department. His original approach to gaining Abby as his mate was so understated that he could have lost her.

~ The secondary characters were awesome. They knew what was up. Cortez, Quentin's brother, is a PITA yet pretty funny. I can't wait to listen to his story. Abby's BFF, Megan, had the goods on her girl and did her best to help Abby understand her conflicted feelings. Although I think she could have pushed a little harder on some issues.

~ J.K. Harper's writing is smooth and captivating. She also made me feel unease. I knew that Quentin and Abby would end up together because this is a romance but I couldn't quite ignore the niggling feeling that Abby might fold to the traditions of her people. That feeling was totally unexpected and I actually enjoyed it. It may be weird but oh well. I think it's fantastic when an author is able to pull different emotions from their readers.

~ Beth Roeg's narration = audio goodness. I had no problem burrowing into the story. She brought the words to life in lovely ways. I enjoyed her pace and speech patterns. I do think there could have been more emotion in her performance. And perhaps a bit more definition between the characters.

HUNTER'S MOON was the first of Harper's work that I've read/listened to. I'm really happy that I tried her and can't wait to start the next book in the series.

Psst... It's already loaded on my iPod!

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I own this ebook, but I received a review copy of the audiobook, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I have bought the whole series in ebook and filled out my collection of the audiobooks for this series too!

This is the first book in the Silvertip Shifters series, and not my first time with J.K. Harper’s work. I own 24 ebooks, and now 6 audiobooks. This is for adults only due to the steamy content. This audiobook is about 2 hours long or the ebook which is about 70 pages long.

I really wanted to read today, but things kept popping up. So I chose to go the audio route today, and I was happy I did. This was a great listen and allowed me to do other things at the same time. I really liked Quentin and Abby, but Cortez was hilarious how he handled his brother. This was mostly the drama of their relationship and trying to make Abby see she was Quentin’s mate. I usually like more action, but this story was a short feel good happy finding your mate kind of story. I can’t wait to see who is up next in this series!

I highly recommend to anyone who loves J.K. Black Mesa Wolves and now you want to meet her bears!

Hunter’s Moon is a story that had potential, but it felt like we were only given the climax of the story instead of the whole thing. It was an interesting idea, something unique, but I feel like I was missing too much.

It could be because I have not read any other books by the author, and this one links two series together, yet I felt like I was missing the important details of how the characters came together. I’m sure if I knew more about them I would have enjoyed it more, but as it was it wasn’t enough. Add in the fact that less than two thirds of this book was actual story, with the rest being previews of other series, and I felt cheated.

All in all, this could have been great, but it missed the mark for me.

Short and sweet. There were parts I wanted to smack the h for being so stubbornly dim but it all worked out in the end.

Lucky me- it's a freebie. Super short - took 15 minutes to complete. Sugary sweet story, about a weak H, a bear shifter and his wolf mate. They are boyfriend and girlfriend, every one knows but he hasn't claimed her. It read like a steamy book for teenagers. Not for me.

Wish it could had been longer. Glad it was available on KU for a free read. Basically a "claim your mate" on a magical night to keep her from being claimed by someone else. Hope the series does better. The next book in line is 150+ pages. But 81 pages isn't enough to do decent character development. You yell at the heroine for being pig-headed because she doesn't personally know a mixed shifter couple. I can't yell at Quentin for not playing the caveman because that would have angered Abby. So no point spending more time on a review than the above.

Mating of a Bear and Wolf shifter

Though this is a short story, I enjoyed it. This is the first book by this author that I have read. I will definitely be reading more stories by J.K. Harper.

It has an engaging plot along with characters that you can't just get enough of. Sexy scenes are fabulous. I loved the writing style. I would recommend this story for readers who love stories about shifters finding their mates.

I chose to review this story on my own.

Happy Reading!

FOLLOWING YOUR HEART & STEAMY PASSIONATE ROMANCE

A wonderful story that entails acceptance, exciting moments, giving into your heart and fiery passionate romance. {A giant hurdle to conquer, before the happy ever after}.

Quentin, a grizzly bear shifter knows his would-be mate is Abby, a she-wolf from the Black Messa Wolf Pack. Abby believes that she must mate with another wolf on the night of the full moon; the Hunter’s Moon. On the advice of his brother Quentin leaves his mountain home to join the run/hunt with the wolves to claim Abby as his mate. As a grizzly bear shifter he walks with pride into a pack of over a hundred wolves, hoping his plea to hunt is accepted by the Alpha without a brutal fight.

Fast-paced and wonderfully written story with an exhilarating plot, witty dialogue, and breathtaking vivid scene descriptions. I loved that Quinn went to join the hunt even though he was unsure of being accepted. Abby and Quentin make a fabulous couple and I do love mixed shifter couples, makes for a more intriguing relationship. Very entertaining read. If you treasure shifter fantasy this is certainly a great book for your library. In the world of shifter fantasy, the magic begins with the first thought to paper. {I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy}. Without reservations, I recommend this book.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Hunter’s Moon is a quick story that serves as the introduction to the connecting series, Silvertip Shifters. Abby and Quentin are in a very loose relationship – they care about each other, Quentin knows that Abby is his mate but she cannot accept that her mate is a grizzly bear shifter because she has never known of an inter-species mating so she doubts her wolf’s feelings. Hunter’s Moon shows the lengths that one determined man is willing to go to in order to have his mate at his side.

While the story is short it also sets up the rest of the Silvertip Shifters series to come. I loved Quentin. He knows his mind, he knows his mate but he is finding it exceedingly difficult to convince Abby that they are fated mates. The brief look we got at Quentin’s brother shows that there are some interesting stories ahead for us in this series. Because her pack is exclusively made up of wolves Abby has no working knowledge of a bear and wolf pairing and is convinced that it would not work between them. It’s up to Quentin, and perhaps a few members of her wolf pack, to prove just how well they can work and do belong together. If you’ve followed the Black Mesa Wolves series then you may recognize a few faces – but it’s not necessary to have read that series to get started on this one. However, I would strongly recommend it mainly because the Black Mesa Wolves series has some amazing stories to experience. I enjoyed my time in this new world and would recommend this story to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.

I own a Kindle copy of this story.

The couple: Quentin and Abby

Romance trope: shifter
Series: Silvertip Shifters
Length: 154 pages

Plot: Abby is a wolf shifter and Quentin is a bear. Quentin knows that Abby is his mate, but she insists that can't be since they are different species. She thinks that wolves can only be with other wolves, since that's all she's ever seen. So Quentin decides to show up at the annual run that all the wolves go to (where they hope to find a mate). He won't rest until Abby is his.

Commentary: I was really annoyed with Abby for the entirety of this story. Seems like some prejudice there. He's good enough to date but not good enough to consider as a life partner? Silliness. Especially since there is proof that other animals, wolves included, cross-species mate. Quentin was smart enough to overcome her objections, but I don't know that I would have wanted someone who rejected me over and over.

Also, the book actually ended at 57% and then the rest was a sneak peek at another story. I hate that.

Next book in the series: Mountain Bear's Baby

I enjoyed this very short listen but wasn't wowed by it. The writing flows nicely and the narration on the audio was well executed. The sexy bits were written without any cringe-worthy bits but also without reaching erotic heights. The story is completely predictable, with no tension or challenge in it, but was none-the-less a sweet tale.
For me Abbey was a bit too naive and too stubborn to be mature enough to be ready to settle down with a mate. Quentin needed a kick up the arse to go after what he wanted- but at least he manned up.
This is the first book I have read/listened to by this author and I will be reading others as the world she has created is a good one, but for me this particular story is 3 stars.
I received a free copy of this audible short story. I have not been influenced by this in choosing to review, and my opinions are always freely and honestly given.

Gah. I want to give the benefit of the doubt and round up to 3*. The story was.... cute. Some parts I couldn’t quite connect with, but overall I found the main characters adorable. What threw me off was the rushed bit of it. Because the two MCs were already together from chapter 1, the rest of the story was about the guy trying to convince the girl to be his mate. I love me a good PNR but there just wasn’t enough here to differentiate. Repeating over and over that “wolves don’t mate with bears” without more world building was.... repetitive. The novella does finish at the 66% mark (on my kindle) and the rest are previews, so there was that too. All in all, I kinda wish I’d read the other series this links and maybe I’ll have enjoyed it more. If I ever do in the future I’ll come back and update this review. As it is, it’s somewhere between a 2.5 and a 3 star.

Ummm. What can I say about this book? So this story was a typical shifter romance but it was lacking a lot of things for me. First things first, it was lacking a good story. Most shifter romances that I’ve read have some sort of drama involved whether it was a fight over a mate, a struggle for power within the packs or there is a struggle for land among the packs and that would bring some intrigue. This book had none of that. All there was in this book was whining from the female wolf about wanting to be with her bear mate but denying herself because he was in fact a bear. Then there was whining from the bear who was upset that his mate would not accept the fact that she was in fact his mate and allow him to claim her. This book was a whole lot of nothing and I was really bored. I’m disappointed by this book

I loved this book when I read it as part of the Black Mesa Wolves Box Set. Black Mesa Wolves Box Set by J. K. Harper is a set of nine different books of the series all put together into the perfect reading order in one group. The nine books included in this set are: Guardian Wolf, Alpha Wolf, Hunting Wolf, Wild Wolf, Solstice Wolf, Christmas Wolf, New Year Wolf, Protector Wolf, and Fire Wolf. Every one of the books in this set was a wonderful read. Each individual book features a different couple who were forever mate and all of the stories are tied together as members of the Black Mesa Wolf Pack. I think anyone who loves reading about shifters or paranormal romance will love this box set where everyone eventually gets their happy ever after ending.

Quentin and Abby were seeing each other but even though Quentin was sure that Abby was his fated mate, Abby didn't believe it. They were two different species of shifter and she had never heard of an interspecies shifter mating. Quentin was a bear shifter while she was a wolf shifter. Abby cared about him but there was no way she would believe they were fated mates, no matter how much Quentin assured her that it was true. Abby wasn't even listening to her own animal when her wolf told her they were mates.

Quentin goes about trying to show Abby that she will fit in his pack of bear shifters just fine but it takes a while to convince her. This was a short, sweet novella. I look forward to getting to know the other characters in this series now.

Bear meets wolf, bear wants wolf, wolf unsure

A sweet story about Quentin a bear shifter finding love/mate in Abby a wolf shifter. Abby believed a wolf would mate a wolf she stubbornly did not believe Quentin every time he tried to convince her. Taking it upon himself with encouragement from his brother to do something daring just to show and prove they are meant to be.
A little shallow with character build but a good story line. Smooth read and quick. A fun story for those whom enjoy shifter romances. Not an instant love like most mate finding stories but guaranteed happily ever after. Will recommended to shifter lovers...off to second book.

A shifter romance with creed fight for what you want.

Shifter romance with a message to not take your love for granted but show and fight for love. Quentin was patiently waiting for Abby to know that she is his mate. He knows with everything in his heart, soul and body An is it his mate. Abby is on the fence because she is a wolf shifter and he is a bear shifter...species mix? Great story. Fall in love with the characters. Violence 0, sex2

Hunter's Moon

As the oldest, Quentin Walker is acting head of the family while his parents are away seeing the world. He met his mate six months earlier, a she wolf from the Black Mess pack. But Abby Kenyon is in denial. She is certain her mate is a wolf shifter, so she makes plans to participate in her pack's Hunter's Moon run to increase her chances of meeting him. And the laid back bear she's dated for months tells her to go ahead, that he has plans of his own. Sneaky bear.
This series opener is a quick and easy read.

According to the authors, finding your mate is supposed to be a joyous affair but when social expectations rear their head.... Being of Chinese ancestry, my mom's ideas of the fitness of things conflicts a lot with my North American way of life; this means that I can understand Abby's belief that shifters should not mate outside their own species group. What I find amazing is that she could so firmly ignore her animal. Good thing that Quentin's brother both sees the situation clearly and knows how to push Quentin's buttons! Brothers - ain't they great?

This book was super short. It felt like we were missing the beginning of the story. There was some spice but it was very graphic and detailed. For something quick to read this would be a great option.

While it didn't deliver all that I was looking for it wasn't terrible so I will continue the series. I do want to mention that while it's book 1 for the Silvertip Shifters series it's the last book in the Black Mesa Wolves series. So if you like reading in order you may want to start with that series.

Hunter's Moon provides a crossover from the Black Mesa Wolves and introduces the Silvertip Shifters. Quentin has known Abby was his mate but Abby wants to deny it. Although they care about each other, Abby just can't see how a wolf and bear are 1. fated and 2. able to make things work. This is a cute, easy love story that shows just how far one determined shifter will go to finally claim his fated mate. If you enjoy paranormal shifter books, this is definitely one you won't want to miss.

Grizzly Bear + Wolf = MATES

Silverton grizzly bear shifter Quentin has trouble convincing Black Mesa wolf Abby she is his mate and not just a guy to spend time with until she meets her wolf mate. She is not listening to her wolf, him or even her best friend. But he will finally (with the help of his youngest brother) decide on something to price how serious he is to her and to her pack. This is a very good story.

mating run

Hunter’s Moon is book one in the series Silvertip Shifters by author J.K. Harper. So I’ve read book five first and I had already purchased this series for myself- yet I didn’t get around to reading them. Yes I know - I’m ashamed!! Anywho, Hunter’s Moon is awesome- it’s about realizing what’s inside your heart and going after it- no matter the obstacles. It’s sassy- sweet- sexy!!
Enjoy!!

HUNTERS MOON
Adult PNR, HEA, mixed breed, short read.

Can they prove to themselves and each-other that they are meant to be? Is she willing to set aside what she thinks is truth about their differences for her perfect mate? No cheating or cliffhangers in this complete beginning of a series set in a fictious version of Colorado where shifters are real and love runs hot between them.
Looking forward to book 2 in the series.
