عندما أصدر الملك فيصل قرار تحرير العبيد في السعودية، اختفت من أنحاء مكّة المكرّمة كلها تلك الجارية التي اعتنت بسعديّة ذات الخمس سنوات والتي توفيت والدتها أثناء ولادتها. لم يكن هناك سوى زوجات والدها الثلاث ليقررن مصيرها، فتاجرن بها. كيف كبُرت سعديّة الفاتنة الجمال، طفلة عذراء، وفي شيخوختها حكايات سبعة رجال مسنّين تدوّخهم بأكواب الشّاي السحريّة كي تستأنف اللعب بدُمى العرائس؛ تلك الدمى اللواتي يحدّثنها منذ كانت في الثالثة عشر من العمر.
