CASE The Third (and fourth and fifth and sixth . . . ) Unsittable

Gabby Duran, Associate 4118-25125A, Sitter to the Unsittables, has proven herself an integral member of A.L.I.E.N.--the Association Linking Intergalactics and Earthlings as Neighbors. She has amassed an impressive roster of alien clients, and is a trusted babysitter among humans and intergalactics alike. We here at A.L.I.E.N. are proud to call her one of our greatest success stories, and believe she is ready to take on more responsibility.

Which is why Gabby has now been entrusted with the care of one of our most volatile charges. His name is One and he's a member of the Tridecalleon species. While One and his parents present the appearance of a normal, human family, they have some intriguing qualities that make caring for their young a unique challenge. And while, under normal circumstances, inviting outsiders to aid an agent with an Unsittable job would be strictly forbidden, we have decided to forgive Gabby calling in her friends Satchel and Zee in this case. After all, a babysitter only has so many hands. (Unless, of course, he or she is a Flarknartian.)

Making this highly unstable situation an even greater challenge? Gabby has also been assigned to protect a very dangerous object--one that, if it falls into the wrong hands, could cause the destruction of Earth itself. It remains to be seen whether Gabby and her friends are able to handle the demands of eleven . . . wait, twelve . . . no, thirteen babies, while ensuring the safety of the world at the same time. All we can do is wait, and hope, and trust. And ready our escape pods.

(this review is for books 1-3 as a whole)

Twelve year old Gabby Duran is a babysitter extraordinare! In fact, she’s such a fantastic babysitter that celebrities fly her all over the world to watch their kiddos...and her babysitting skills have been noticed by A.L.I.E.N. (The Association Linking Intergalatics and Earthlings), who recruit Gabby to watch alien children, who have been deemed “unsittable”, because of their otherworldly appearances and abilities. Gabby, whose own little sister was deemed unsittable, eagerly agrees to work with A.L.I.E.N. and her liaison Edwina, and she and her two best friends (Zee and Satchel) quickly find themselves in out-of-this-world, outrageous, and sometimes downright perilous situations with her alien charges. But at the end of the day, Gabby knows that aliens or not, her charges are special and deserve to be treated just like any other fun-loving kids!

The Gabby Duran series, which currently includes Gabby Duran and the Unsittables, Troll Control, and Multiple Mayhem, is a fast-paced, fun series, full of quirky characters, wildly adventurous situations, cool technology, laugh-out-loud humor and dialogue, and charming storytelling.

Authors, Elise Allen and Daryle Conners take babysitting to a whole new intergalactic level and definitely bring the laughs, excitement, and heart! With a wonderfully imaginative plot (alien babysitting?!), irresistibly likable and engaging characters (humans and aliens alike), awesomely twisty and turny situations, and elements of STEM learning, these books will captivate, entertain, and inspire young readers.

I has such a blast reading this series, getting to know Gabby, Zee, Satchel, the alien kids, Edwina, and even snooty Madison, and joining them for three unforgettable and zany adventures!

Allen, Elise and Conners, Daryle Multiple Mayhem (Gabby Duran #3), 211 pages. Disney Hyperion, 2017. $17. Language: G (o swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: G.

Gabby has two extreme challenges to deal with in this third book of the series. Not only is she given care of a world ending alien artifact, but faces hers biggest alien babysitting job yet. On top of everything else her human nemesis Madison will not leave her alone and is making her life even more complicated. Additionally her mom is dating a man she suspects of being either a bad alien or in league with them. Thankfully one of her best friends knows about everything and can help –the other, well he is trying to process everything still.

I really liked the first book in this series (and it has been popular in my library). This one is really fun and interesting as well. It has authentic dialogue, well crafted characters, a complex yet lighthearted plot, and lots of fast paced action. The BIG problem –the new covers for the series. The first one was appealing and intriguing to upper grade students. This one is VERY dated and boing looking –not to mention it gives away the plot. I honestly think it this could ruin it chances for circulation with the age group that is able follow the complex and continuing plotlines.

As a babysitting agent for Association Linking Intergalactic and Earthling Neiighbors, Gabby has a reputation for being able to babysit the unsittables. Enlisted to babysit One, a formidable baby who can multiply themselves. Can Gabby figure out how to take charge of her latest charge?

Gabby is an engaging character who is easy to love. The plot is a fun mix of science fiction and adventure. The author does a great job of intermixing genres while pulling the reader into Gabby’s world. Delightfully humorous, readers will fall in love with Gabby and her latest adventure. Although it isn’t necessary to read the first two books, it is recommended that you read the first two books first.
