For kids, but I needed a break from my heavy reading!

Brief descriptions of Garfield's past lives. Most are uninteresting and unimaginative. In all eras he loved sleeping and lasagna and hated Mondays and Nermal. Gets better in the episode where he lived as detective "Sam Spayed", and the one where he was used in laboratory testing. (That one has art and theme that may frighten children.)

I remember watching the TV special as a kid in the '80s and recall it was rather dark. The first part of this book was very cartoony--agreeable stuff for the elementary school set, but I was hoping this remake wouldn't totally sanitize the original.
Then I got to the "Sam Spayed" detective comic and was blown away! The second half of the book showed that some creativity and great ideas can be wrung out of this very familiar property yet!

Missing all the creativity of the original Garfield: His 9 Lives. While this newer collection offers possibly a wider variety of visual styles, it completely lacks in variety of content: insert lasagna joke here, insert Monday joke there. A real snooze.

I did not enjoy this book. The concept wasn’t so bad but I did not think it was done well. Most of the stories felt too short for what they were trying to get across and felt like they ended abruptly. The one story where Garfield was a lab cat was not appropriate for kids which is typically who you would think would be interested in Garfield. Overall I just did not enjoy this book and I do not recommend it.

I had like 20 or 30 Garfield books but his one was the best. It changed my outlook, understanding, and perspective of what I thought I knew about the character and the approach to the whole Garfield universe. It was like that moment from "The Matrix", where Morpheus is trying to free Neo's mind when he asks if he thinks he is really breathing air. My canvas became my own. Please, read it.

Mostly hit or miss 'Elseworld' type Garfield stories. The first half is kind of a snoozer, but the second half picks up and has some really interesting stories with different art in each one. It's sort of a fresh artsy and interesting look at Garfield!

Great book.

Funny with amazing illustrations as usual. I'd recommend it to anyone who liked the previous Garfield books in the series.

Not like the usual Garfield

I disliked the nine lives theme. I would prefer the original comics.

Very very creative idea, very fun read. Pretty long though, too many lives to get to LOL. Liked some of the art styles, but not the second and third to last ones.

Seeing Garfield in these different roles is fun and it makes for a nice change of pace. The basic character though stays the same. He is still that fat, lazy and fun loving cat.
