The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Newborns: Amazing Sleep from Day One – For Baby and You

Rate this book
You have a newborn, so sleep is impossible, right? Wrong! In the womb, babies sleep up to twenty hours per day. Clearly newborns don’t need to be “trained” how to sleep – they know how, and they’ve had plenty of practice. So why do most parents have trouble getting their newborns to sleep?

Elizabeth Pantley, a world-renowned expert on children’s sleep, created this guide to explain the ways we unintentionally prevent an infant’s natural sleep to occur, and to teach us the simple but powerful ways to maximize our newborn’s naps and nighttime sleep. Once you’ve learned the 15 Keys to Amazing Newborn Sleep you’ll easily make adjustments to how you treat your baby’s sleep. You don’t have to keep logs nor follow schedules or rules. Just by being aware of this information you will do things to improve sleep that you wouldn’t have known to do otherwise.

With The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Newborns, you will learn:
• the things that trick us into disrupting a baby’s sleep
• how to identify the perfect moment for a nap
• ways to create a sleep-inducing environment
• tips to reduce the number of night wakings
• how to set the stage for great sleep throughout babyhood

The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Newborns was field-tested by 122 test families with newborns. Their input refined the ideas to make them easy to understand and follow – by even the most sleep-deprived parent. When you apply these Keys you can help your baby sleep well and peacefully. And guess what? When your baby sleeps – you will, too!

Some good ideas

There were some good ideas to take on board from this book but I found it hard going by the end. It is very repetitive - it would be a much shorter book if the repetitions were removed! There are repetitions from one chapter to another, which I can understand from a book that people might want to dip in and out of, but so much is repeated even just within one chapter. I do, however, like its non-judgmental approach and the encouragement to find a method that suits you and your baby.

This book was a life raft! I didn’t agree with everything but reading it during nighttime feeds helped me to organize and more intentionally think about Felicien’s sleep.

This book would be good before you have a baby! It gives ideas for how to get baby to go down for a nap or bedtime with or without you holding them. It is nice cause it is a great no cry method!

I wish it discussed the issue of the night waking more. I have an older baby (6 months) who has settled into a poor night waking habit of every 2 hours and I am not sure how to break it. She does address how to not create this habit but not what to do if it is already a problem. 🤷‍♀️ such is life

I’ve had enough of baby sleep books! I could get a Phd in baby sleep at this rate. I know all about the 5S’s, the fourth trimester, sleep begets sleep, sleepy cues, wake windows, blah blah blah. I’ve come to realize you can know everything there is about sleep and do everything possible and still not get your baby to nap. Anyone have ideas outside the box? Don’t suggest white noise or swaddles or I’ll clock you.

A good book. There wasn't a lot of new info in here for me, but I've done lots of reading about this, so that isn't to say it wouldn't be helpful to someone else. Definitely a good reminder of basic principles that can help with sleep.

All the advice given in this book could have been fully explained in a 5 page pamphlet.

The book essentially shares a sort of fading/replacement method for sleep training, and is full of mommy shaming all over. If you’re on the fence about your own philosophy for sleep sleep learning, you should know this book is totally biased.

In regards to the methods shared, it’s essentially replacement/fading method to replace slowly how you sleep your child. No new stuff and VERY repetitive (twins? Set up routines, respect wake windows. Special needs child? Set up routines, respect wake windows). She shares a few things that are even weird like bargaining with your child so they will sleep or crazy recommendations like putting tuna cans under a mattress.

Then, full of mommy shaming and cry it out shaming. It’s clear she does not agree with that but the book’s full beginning is a chapter on why not CIO and then testimonials of her work (so clearly she felt the book was not enough to speak by itself?).

The final thoughts is the worst part, speaking about another mom she met and then comparing her baby and the woman’s. Essentially saying that because the baby was bottle fed and sleep trained he would grow up lonely, not confident and so on and so forth vs her own baby.

Would say that maybe 10% of the book is worth it and you can probably skim the titles and subtitles and read some parts.

Nothing groundbreaking but a great book with practical advice. I started this book in hopes of a magical method to put newborns to sleep, but unfortunately, there's no single answer to easily put babies to sleep. However, this book thoroughly covers every aspect that can contribute to the best environment and routine for optimal sleep for newborns. As new parents, I've found the contents of the book quite helpful. I can't say my baby sleeps well every night, but more than half of the time, she sleeps well.

This is a decent summary of "best practices" for helping newborns to sleep. There isn't much new/revolutionary here but I enjoyed that it advocated for doing what works for you and baby rather than prescribing a one-size-fits-all approach. I also really appreciated that this book provides a "Cliff's Notes" version at the very beginning - probably very helpful for sleep-deprived parents seeking help.

This is a good, easy read with helpful tips, if you have a baby under 4 months old. I wish I read it while I was pregnant however we are able to implement some of the tips right now since she’s 2 months old. It wouldn’t say the information is earth shattering if you have any experience with babies but it’s helpful and reassuring nonetheless! I will probably also read the “No Cry Seep Solution” for 4+ months soon.

I really loved the gentle guidance in this book! I think it provides helpful solutions to common newborn sleep concerns while also providing a good idea of what normal newborn sleep looks like. I'm not crazy about the advocacy for bed sharing, but I do like that it provides guidelines for doing so safely for those families who have decided that's right for them. Overall a very good, gentle guide for new parents!

Great resource for new parents

Wish I had read this before having my baby so we could have started better habits right away. This book has lots of information about newborn sleep, and addresses many factors parents may be struggling with. Looking forward to giving my husband the highlights so we can develop a game plan and hopefully get our little one sleeping better soon

I don't feel like I could give a rating because I don't have a child to practice these keys with yet, but wow, this book is so repetitive. There's a summary in the beginning of the 15 keys, and I feel like that's enough. I really struggled getting through this book. Every time I picked it up, I'd fall asleep! Haha

I found this book had some helpful tips and guidance, I only wish I had read it sooner after my son was born and tried to implement some of these solutions sooner, as for a few, it's already too late to try some of them.

The tips are broken down into different "keys" that you can either read straight through or jump around to whichever ones you need most. A good book for new parents.

This is a great book for a sensitive approach to starting sleep skills with your newborn. Really it's all about parents understanding newborn sleep so that they know how to help baby sleep best. No sleep training.

Haven't had baby yet to try out some of the tips outlined in this book, but overall the content and writing are great! Lots of ideas on newborn sleep I hadn't thought of as a soon-to-be new mom. I want to purchase a copy to reference once baby arrives!

Pretty repetitive and a lot of common sense if you're familiar with basic sleep hygiene. I think the whole book could be summed up in the overview chapter which lists and briefly summarizes the 15 tips.

There is some great advice in this book but it is PAINFULLY repetitive. I felt like I was constantly having deja vu. Repetition is good when learning something new but this book takes that concept way too far.

Very repetitive. I like the philosophy of not letting your baby cry, but the book ends up being a long advertisement for bed sharing, which I'm not interested in. There is also a lot of "cherish the moment" language that I feel really piles on the already unrealistic expectations for new moms.

This book didn't provide any information I didn't already know. Although, it is worth mentioning I read this in relation to our second baby, so I had read from several resources for our first baby. It is still insightful for first time mums.

This book proved to be more helpful than initially expected. A bit repetitive, but overall it offers advice that is simple, but powerful. It has already resulted in more sleep for mama.
