Rory and I were on a roll, dancing our hearts out as we prepared for Blackpool, the world’s most prestigious ballroom competition. I’d worked hard to control my demanding, perfectionist nature, and my beautiful Rory glowed with her brilliant artistry.
But then, demons from my Russian past had to rear their ugly souls, putting not only our love, but our very lives in jeopardy.
SASHA is the re-telling of the A BALLROOM ROMANCE trilogy, but told from Sasha’s unique perspective. Sasha Book Two is the conclusion of the SASHA duet.
"SASHA is an excellent read, and one that will entice readers to read more of Ms. Plank's books and eagerly await the next installment of Sasha and Rory's story." InD'tale Magazine, review of SASHA Book One.
After spending many years as a criminal appeals attorney in New York, Tonya returned to the West to focus on writing. She currently lives in her native Arizona with a small menagerie of rescue pets.
While working as a lawyer, Tonya developed a passion for ballroom dancing. For several years she wrote a dance blog, Swan Lake Samba Girl, which was lauded by James Wolcott in his Vanity Fair blog, and Terry Teachout of the Wall Street Journal.
Tonya’s first novel, Swallow, a dramedy about a lawyer with the psychosomatic disorder, Globus Hystericus, won several awards including gold medals in the Independent Publisher and Living Now Book Awards.
She's also written a romance trilogy, Fever, and a duet, Sasha, both set in the world of professional ballroom dancing. She's currently working on her next novel in the Infectious Rhythm ballroom series, as well as a mystery series inspired by her rescue pets. She recently started a blog, Witty Kitty's Book Blog, reviewing books featuring animals.
When not writing, Tonya loves taking road trips with her dog, Sofia, devouring Mexican food, curling up with her cats and a good novel, and watching ballroom competitions.
I received a copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
This was an enjoyable read. I thought the storyline was great, but could have been developed in the romance aspect. I think the fact that this is a retelling of Fever from Sasha's perspective is intriguing. I thought the characters were great. Sasha was more understanding and likeable. He has really grown as a character. I really liked Rory. She is smart, witty, and lovable. I think she has a shy yet determined personality. I thought the romance between Sasha and Rory was lacking. I want to see more of their chemistry. However, I thought the ending was sweet. Overall, a great read.
Sasha, books 1 and 2 together, tell the same story as is in Fever from Sasha's point of view rather than Rory's. This half of Sasha's tale brings us from the near-disastrous end of book 1 through their Blackpool competition. Sasha is a fascinating character. He drips confidence and cockiness to the rest of the world, yet his past has left him with inner pockets of shame, guilt, doubt, and a competitive streak that drives him. Rory is his perfect foil; her self-confidence issues are bolstered by Sasha's belief in her, but her soft heart helps tame his inner anger. Together they flare brightly on the dance floor as they learn to walk together in life.
If you've read Fever, I highly recommend reading Sasha 1 and 2. The story is complete and satisfying in Fever, but has a new depth to it with the addition of Sasha's inner thoughts. From the tempestuous start through his inner commitment to Rory, their story is not simply about desire but about partnership. Seeing Sasha's growing understanding of true partnership both in dance and life is delightful.
The side-characters are as much a part of the story as Sasha and Rory. In both Fever and Sasha 1 we met the varied personalities from the Infectious Rhythm studio. In Sasha 2 we get a more interesting look at both Sasha's and Rory's families. Rory's judgemental sister and ex-boyfriend, and Sasha's uncle, cousin, and sister. We also meet more of Sasha's dancer friends. I particularly enjoyed reading Sasha's thoughts about Rory's ex, James, as well as his views about Rory's relationships with her family and his friends. While his reactions mirror Rory's in some ways, they are also remarkably different in others.
While it seems as if the story is now wrapped up, I am hoping to read more about the Infectious Rhythm dancers and Sasha and Rory in the future.
** I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. **
Sasha Book two picks up where part one left off. This gives the world of ballroom dancing a whole new spin. Who would have known that there would be so much drama and suspense outside of the actual competition? I feel like I had an inside look at the world of competitive ballroom dancing. It is a very demanding sport. However, the romance that happens while getting ready for the big event is very spicy! This couple is made for each other. I loved this book, it is a definite must read.
This book is more a story of ballroom dancing than a romance. I did enjoy that aspect of the story, but in a romance novel, the romance is supposed to be the central theme. That was not the case in this one. Happy reading!

Once again Tonya has done it again and, okay, I will say I'm biased because I'm friends with the author, but still, this book is well written and just as exciting and Fever was at the end.
Looking back on both series, I have to say I honestly liked Sasha a little more. I'm not sure what changed between the two but Rory doesn't come off as much as a wimp and doormat in Sasha ad she does in Fever and that was one of my main issues with Fever.
It was definitely nice to get more of Sasha's back story and his thoughts.
