Killer King

Sometimes it’s good to be the king.

Leon Garber never wanted to be CEO of any corporation, let alone the one that'd been trying to kill him for the past year and a half. Of course, Like-Minded Individuals Inc. built their fortune on supporting serial killers. Leon should know; he used to be one of their best clients. Until LMI turned on him. That’s why it made no sense when LMI made him an offer he couldn't refuse—a chance to take down the corporation from the inside. It's a killer job but somebody has to do it. A job Leon loves a little too much…

Sometimes it’s great to be the king!

The finale of the Killers Incorporated trilogy. God bless us all and don't get caught in the cross-fire!

Stuart R. West is not a writer to be easily pigeon-holed. He writes crime, thrillers, comedy and horror. One thing you can always guarantee though is that, when you embark on one of his books, you are in for an absorbing and entertaining ride from page one right through to the end. This third in the Killers Incorporated series, featuring the notorious LMI, sees Leon Garber promoted and taking on new responsibilities while still dealing with the, loyal but more than a little stupid, Cody who has such a passion for carving up people.

It's a tough act to pull off - writing about ruthless serial killers in such a way as to make (some of them at least) endearing and likeable, even when the body count is rising. Stuart West has a unique ability to do just that. Loved this book and will miss the characters.

I voluntary received an advanced reader copy of Killer King, however since I didn’t start reading unit after the book was released I went ahead and grabbed my own edited copy off of Kindle Unlimited.

Stuart is one of the very first authors to submit to our blog when we first started and has submitted to us consistently ever since; so, it is hard for me when I don’t instantly fall in love with his work.   I read the fist in this series back in March of 2015 and now reading the last installment in November of 2016 I will admit there are gaps in my memory on all the plot twists.  Compile that with the 350 or so books I have read in-between my memory is a bit spotty.  Any more I tend to stay away from series like this for that reason.  I feel had there been a bit more recap I would have been fine or had I read the books consecutively I would not have felt like I was playing catch up.  But as the book stands reading it the way I did I just couldn’t get back into the story and I struggled.

Leon didn’t seem to have that same neurotic persona in book three that he had in the others.  In the previous books Stuart wrote Leon in a way that even though he was a killer you still really liked him but it was missing in book 3.  I can’t even place what exactly it was that was so different it just was.  Maybe because he was towing the company line?  I will say thank goodness for Cody, his character stayed the same and offered the comedy relief that was much needed.

One thing that drove me crazy, was all the sound effects, Bam, bang, boom.  A few fine, as many that this novel had was unnecessary.  I understand that you are trying to build the imagery but when I am focusing on what erkk is supposed to sound like it takes away from the pace of the story.  Stairs creaked works just as well.

Overall I think this is a series that needs to be read without a lot of time gap in-between.  Luckily it is on Kindle unlimited so it is easy enough to do.  The characters are vivid and larger than life, Stuart has a wonderful ability to make his characters jump off the page. I think had I read the books consecutively I would have enjoyed Killer King more.  As it stands I am rating it 3 Boundless Stars....Sara

The final (probably) book in the Killers Incorporated series is a satisfying ending to a fun and unique series. You should take yourself to Amazon or wherever to read Books 1 and 2 before you tackle this one. So, go. Leave. Beat it. Come back when you're prepared for one of the wackiest thriller (not quite) mystery (sort of) comedy (getting there)...all of those and more.

Quick summary: Leon is a serial killer. The villain, right? Uh, no. Leon is the hero. Stay with me here. He's a killer with a cause. He only dispatches child abusers. Abused himself, he has every reason to despise them and no upbringing to teach him otherwise. By day, a mild-mannered accountant. By night, a threat to any abuser he discovers. To find the abusers, Leon does not settle for any single, possibly false, report. He really digs into it.

Along comes Killers Incorporated which will, for a modest fee, find and research abusers so Leon won't have to take up so much time verifying the facts behind the abuse. Other serial killers are already taking advantage of this service. The likelihood of being discovered lies in your internet history which you might not be able to cover up entirely. Have someone else do the research for you.

Leon, with some other clients of Killers Inc., discover the corporation is not providing good info, but using the serial killers to get rid of their own enemies who might not be guilty of anything other than being a nuisance to the corporation.

Okay, that was not a quick summary. My apologies.

Anyway, Leon takes over KI and prepares to destroy it from within. With the assistance of Nanette, Cody, August, and Delilah (murderers one and all), Leon's plan takes shape. Wait. What is Leon's plan? If he knew, he'd certainly let his cohorts know. But Leon is making it up as he goes along.

Pushed into a corner by his allies, Leon has to put up or shut up. When another former ally shoes, I mean shows up with his own plan for destroying the company, Leon must act.

This is all while being pursued by a very persistent detective he'd escaped from in book 2. She's got a grudge and wants to take down Leon no matter what.

What it all comes down to is a fun to read serial killer set of novels. Sometimes series flag toward the end leaving a not so good taste. But taking the entire series of Killers Incorporated as a whole, I highly recommend it. I think the series is greater than the sum of its parts. I've given each of the first two books four stars, plus a little bit of the fifth star. Add them all up, and I give the overall series a big ol' thumbs up and that elusive 5th star I rarely give.

Congratulations, Mr. West. Don't expect the stars every time though. You have to earn them. In this case, I believe you did.

The author provided me with an Advance Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review.

The third book in the Killers Incorporated Trilogy, Killer King, by Stuart R. West, brings the story full circle. Leon Garber is now heading the corporation of Like-Minded Individuals. Under the thumb of the live mannequin, Sheera Rasmussen, the widow of the former CEO, he's in over his head. For some reason, someone, or is it everyone, wants Leon dead.

Leon has to figure out who, while retaining control of an empire he hopes to destroy. His long-suffering love, Nanette, the black widow killer is sitting quietly by the pool waiting for him to notice. However, it's been six months, and he hasn't. This was the only part of the story that did not sit well with this reader. This woman would not sit and twiddle her thumbs, waiting for her man to remember she exists.

Be that as it may, the story is action filled. The killing is less in your face, but the bullets fly and the quirky characters are all there. The ending is a surprise, and for some reason, I feel as though the story doesn't end here!

Well done, Mr. West!

Just as exciting as the first two books in this series, Killer King once again kept me on the edge of my seat. What could be better than tons of action, humor to lighten the mood, and a bunch of serial killers who somehow manage to be endearing? With plenty of twists to keep you guessing, this book ties things together nicely for a satisfying end to the trilogy.
