Suzukaze Aoba may look like a middle schooler, but she's actually fresh out of high school and starting a new job on the character team of a game company. Not only is she working for the company that put out one of her favorite games, she also gets to spend her days modeling and creating characters. Follow her adorable shenanigans in this 4-panel slice of life as she learns the ropes of the industry and gets to know her co-workers.
A manga I discovered thanks to the Halloween Fest free comic book day. It immediately grabbed my attention at the store, it looked cute. I wasn't sure if it was shoujo-ai or if it was just fanservice. I haven't read the first two volumes (which I read could be read as a duology) so this was my first read from the series and I still don't know how to classify it. In the end, it's cute and follows a group of all female game developers, some of whom are crushing on each other. It was interesting to read on game development as well.
The art is good. The first few pages are in colour. It's a four panel type manga which I had never read before and for how thin it looks, it's packing some plot. At first it was hard to distinguish the characters and I found the guide at the very beginning to be useful.
I'll be reading this series from the start and see what I make of it but I enjoyed reading this one, made me smile quite a few times.
I love the characters and their interactions in this series, but the dynamics are a litttttle too close to queer-baiting for me, especially since I doubt any of the women will pair up on-page as romantic couples before the end of the series. There are just little gray areas in some scenes where you can see potential romantic tension that will probably just never go anywhere. And that’s sad to me.
This remains a fun series but not as funny as before. Still, getting to learn how the gaming process works and how much time and effort goes into it is pretty cool. I also like the characters and watching them defy their anime tropes is nice. For sure a laid back fun series to read.
Haha, it is funny how little of the manga story we have had in the anime. Oh well, good news, as that will mean we can have an S2 some day. :) This one is totally new, and all about the new game that Eagle Jump will be making.
We have competitions, switching careers (or at least titles), a new game to plan, Hifumi who is slowly starting to get more and more social, and less and less being afraid to talk about things, then we also have a vacation trip with the team to Hokkaido. Yes, this volume is stuffed to the brim!
I also did like the added tension between Yagami and Aoba. Don't get me wrong, tension isn't good, but in this case it is. Yagami has to learn that while she is still awesome, someone might be a bit better, or the staff might like their design better. She has to learn not to vent that frustration towards other people, and to be accepting. There is always next one + you can just do your best on this game and show people what you can do.
I also felt for Aoba, she is now the CD, and she has no clue what to do, how to do it. She feels at times like she is useless, and I can kind of imagine why. She just wants to help, she wants people to ask her for help, but no one does, and if they do, she doesn't know what to do. Don't worry Aoba, you will learn! You have only been here for about a year, you still are young and new!
It was interesting to see the new game, and I wouldn't mind playing it. :P
Nenechi is also learning something special, I guess we will see more of it in the next volumes. I am kind of curious about it, though I will probably never like the character. Maybe if she started acting more like her age during work, during responsibilities, maybe I would like her more. But now? No.
The vacation trip was a delight, I had a laugh at Aoba making snowmen everywhere and even talking to them. :P
All in all, a delightful volume, and I can't wait for volume 4 to be done.
I don't hate this series, but I just don't love it either. I was really hoping I'd enjoy this slice-of-life in a game development studio more. Alas, nothing has really grabbed my attention. I will read more of them as our library gets them because it isn't bad. I don't want to bad mouth the production or anything because that is actually really good. Just my reaction to the characters and story has been lukewarm so I'll keep reading to see if anything takes off for me.
I liked this volume quite a bit though some of the story and jokes were repeated a bit too much for my liking. The story didn't progress much at all, but it was still very cute. One of my favorite slice of life manga. The workplace is somewhat realistic, as well as the interactions between the characters. Not as strong as the previous 2 volumes, but a good recommendation anyway.
