Shishigami's petulance and rabid destructiveness leads to more tragedy in his life that pushes him further down a dark path! This volume also has the best take-down of online trolls I have read! Hiroya Oku's clean art is one of my fave things about his work and it's flourishing in this volume. The title hero has played only a limited role in the last few volumes which is also quite interesting. The best volume so far, which I give an 8 out of 12 Four Stars.

Inuyashiki Volume 5 doesn’t feature the title character! Instead it’s all about what psychotic teen serial killer Shishigami did next. Which is plain confusing to me.

Initially Shishigami seemed like a one-dimensional bad guy: he gets the same robot powers as Inuyashiki but uses them for evil for seemingly no other reason than he’s an evil little shit. Except we could see in how he cared about his mother that he’s got something of a heart – which only makes his previous actions all the more baffling. Sociopaths aren’t empathetic or selfless, right?

So in this fifth book we see him again weeping over his mother and then slowly falling in love with – and obviously caring about – the needy classmate who’s sheltering him, and her grandma. Aww, he’s human! Except he’s also going back to murdering people in cold blood!? But wait – he’s also helping to cure people of their illnesses!

What IS this character - how are we meant to feel about him?? It’s less complex character-building so much as it is contradictory and arbitrary behaviour, like Hiroya Oku himself hasn’t quite made up his mind about Shishigami.

For that reason alone, Inuyashiki Volume 5 is an unpredictable read with some amusingly silly moments like when Shishigami goes off on a rampage, targeting 4Chan-esque trolls via their webcams! But it still feels like a disjointed, rather childish and shallow story that knows it wants to be edgy and cerebral but doesn’t know how to convincingly pull that off.

Reread (more complete)

The other one- Shishigami continues on his murder spree.
This time he digitally shoots (?)a group of trolls who prompted his Mother to commit suicide..

Adopted by a naive girl and her Grandma he seems to be now motivated to heal the incurable to make up for the body count he left behind him.

Well ..the curing takes off...but does it really change his reason to be?

This volume almost completely focuses on Hiro, and it makes it the most entertaining volume since 2.

The first half is Hiro losing his mind even more. After the horrible events of his actions in volume 2 it seems he might be having a breakdown? But then when trolls online keep taunting him he decides to kill them all. Better watch what you post on Redit and 4chan! Then the 2nd half kicks in and we got a storyline I was not expecting. Maybe a change of character?

I really liked this volume because of how fast paced it was. Also how brutal it was too. The best part is easily the change half way through to give us a new future for this character Hiro. Also that cliffhanger ending is "HOLY SHIT" good. I can't wait to see what happens next.

This is easily my favorite volume since 2. I hope it continues to be a crazy fun ride from here. A 4 out of 5.

In my opinion, the main drawback of this series revolves around its main antagonist, who comes off as overly simplistic and lacking depth.

It seems that the author may have also recognized this issue. There's a noticeable shift in recent volumes, especially in this latest installment, where considerable effort has been made to address and enhance the antagonist's character.

This approach shows promise. Oku takes a deeper dive into the antagonist's psyche in this volume, offering new perspectives and insights. While the transformation isn't dramatic, there's a palpable improvement in how the character is portrayed.

The trajectory of these developments will be intriguing to follow as the series progresses...

After an amazingly brutal sequence where Shishigami trolls internet trolls, he comes under pressure from the one person who does not see him as a complete villain to atone for the carnage he has caused.

Shishigami demonstrates himself as quite the bit more complex than he seemed at first glance. There's obviously something terribly wrong with his head, but he's less of an unrepentant sociopath, and more of a manchild with a very stunted sense of empathy and right and wrong. I almost feel sorry for him.

Also, does the author not know that there are other deadly maladies besides cancer? Everyone gets cancer.

Me veía venir "el cambio" de personalidad pero i like it anyway 😊🤙🏼

This is a review of the entire series.

Fifty-eight-year-old Ichiro Inuyashiki is down on his luck and still struggling to find a place in the world after living for so long. He’s constantly ignored, disrespected and put down by his dissatisfied family and judgmental peers regardless of how much effort he puts into trying to give them everything he can to make them happy. He’s too depressed and afraid to stand up for himself and he struggles to find a reason to keep living such an unfulfilling life. Things seem to brighten up for him after he adopts a cute and affectionate dog he names Hanako, but his happiness is instantly robbed from him when he learns from his doctor that he’s been diagnosed with cancer and has less than three months left to live.

Ready to run away from all of his responsibilities and burdens, Ichiro takes a long walk away from home with Hanako and stops to take a rest under the night sky in an empty park to gather his thoughts. Just when things seem like they’ve reached their lowest point, a UFO of all things comes crashing down to earth and lands right on top of the frail old man and a nearby bystander. It seems to be an unfortunate end for Ichiro, until he wakes up completely unscathed and feeling healthier than ever. Hanako is still by his side when he awakes, and both of them know that something isn’t quite right. It seems that the aliens driving the UFO took pity on the poor old man and performed an emergency operation to bring him back from the dead, upgrading his body with their superior technology and leaving him with a few new tricks up his sleeve to keep him safe from harm, such as enhanced vision, hearing, strength, durability and the ability to fly.

With his new and improved hearing capabilities, Ichiro overhears a group of young thugs ganging up on homeless people and beating them to death with baseball bats in the distance. He instinctively rushes to the aid of their next victim and gives the kids the scare of their life after awakening his new superhuman abilities. The homeless man is saved and the kids are brought to justice. For the first time in his life, Ichiro feels like his existence actually means something.

After saving the homeless man, Ichiro takes control of his life with his newfound abilities by using them to save thousands of innocent people from death and violence. After living through one tragedy after another, Ichiro finally finds his purpose, becoming a hero of the people and earning the love and respect he’s desperately wanted since he was a young boy.

Unknown to Ichiro however, the boy that happened to be at the park on the night of the incident went through a similar procedure. The antagonist is a sociopathic teenage boy named Hiro Shishigami, who was blessed with the same godlike powers as Ichiro after having his body reconstructed by the aliens. Unlike the kind old man however, Hiro has no intentions of using his powers for good. And so begins an unlikely battle between a heroic, lovable grandpa and a young genocidal maniac.

Inuyashiki explores what happens when people suddenly gain the power of gods. Some people use it to turn their lives around, other people use it to take revenge on the world. Power doesn’t always corrupt a person, there are a few genuinely good souls out there that put their power and influence to good use. Ichiro is a humble man that only feels alive when he saves other people from death and despair, he uses his power out of love for humanity and only wishes to be loved in return. He’s fragile and reliant on others, but he’s selfless and heroic all the same.

Hiro only feels alive when he sees other lives come to an end. He hates the world and he feels nothing towards others, with the exception of his mother, a single friend from school and a girl he develops surprisingly warm feelings for. This is where his sociopathic tendencies begin to get more complex, because he genuinely seems capable of having strong feelings toward a select group of people. He also cries for fictional characters when reading his favorite books and he even breaks down in tears when bad things happen to the few people he cares about. His unpredictable nature makes him a terrifying and fascinating individual, breaking the definition of a pure sociopath or psychopath.

That being said, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more interesting hero/villain dynamic than that of a sweet old grandpa and a demented teenager. One thing I absolutely loved about the dark subject matter of the story is that the extreme violence and psychological horror elements throughout the series were taken very seriously. It’s never done just for shock value or being over the top, even though there are quite a few incredibly disturbing moments. Every single time someone dies or a cruel act is performed, the characters always take the time to reflect on the aftermath of the consequences of what happened and gives you enough time to soak in the pain.

Ichiro values human life, and even sheds tears when he has no choice but to use violence against irredeemable criminals that refuse to surrender to justice. Even Hiro begins to reflect on his life choices and abuse of his superhuman powers after the consequences of his actions catch up to him and transform his unstoppable rampage into an ocean of guilt, regret and self-loathing. Not a single act goes unpunished in this series, and the way these actions linger in the characters' minds and forces them to take a second look at themselves is masterfully done.

It’s a very original take and criticism on the superhero genre. Heroes and villains are criticized in equal measure. You can rarely do something good without having a few negative consequences that go along with it, and the opposite can also be true. It portrays society in a nihilistic, yet very believable way by cleverly integrating parodies of twitter drama and forum-based chat sites such as 4chan, where everyone is desensitized to kindness and cruelty and get off on dehumanizing each other from behind the safety of a computer monitor. If a superhero or a supervillain were to appear in this day and age, many people would probably shrug off their actions because they’ve been so desensitized by internet culture and ultra-violent media. People can hear about school shootings and terrorist attacks that killed thousands of innocent people on the news everyday and not bat an eye because they’ve heard the same old story so many times before. As sad as it may sound, sometimes people just come to expect the absolute worst from the world and they grow numb to the shocking events that transpire every moment. The satirical yet harsh social commentary benefits the adult superhero narrative to great effect.

Inuyashiki isn’t all doom and gloom, however. It’s actually a very heartwarming tale about being able to overcome your status as an outcast, accepting your role in the world and coming to terms with your past in order to change your life around for the greater good. I think the ending really hits home with these themes and messages, and it sure as hell sent me through an emotional roller coaster.

If there’s one thing to take away from this series, it’s that everyone has a hero inside of them waiting for their chance to shine. No matter how feeble, meaningless or cruel your past actions may have been, there’s always a new opportunity waiting just around the corner if you ever decide to make a change for the better and bring something good into the world. These acts of kindness might not make up for the things you’ve done in the past, but there’s no denying that they have the potential to make the future a brighter place for someone else. No matter how insignificant they may seem, every little action, choice and sacrifice you make has the power to change the future. It’s never too late to start doing the right thing.

Kematian ibunya membuat Hiro semakin menggila. Cieeee :))

Shion memang sedikit membuat Hiro berubah.

Terus bagaimana nanti saya melihat my beloved Takeru ditembaki begituuuuu.... Huhuhu... Hmmmm... Be careful with what you wish for. Takeru pernah mengatakan ingin menjadi sosok antagonis dengan make up sangar hingga penggemar ya tidak bisa mengenalinya. His wish is granteddd!

The author needs to decide at some point whether Hiro is a blood-thirsty killer or a regular teen. This bipolarity doesn't make a lot of sense. And where is Inuyashiki anyway? Hiro can track IPs with his mind and kill through mobile devices, but Inuyashiki can't watch the news? They need to fight sometime soon.

It was hilarious seeing how Hiro dispatched the 2chan trolls! :D

Then, of course, comes the calm. Shion, who has always had a crush on Hiro, is now helping him keep a low profile as he hides in her house with her grandma.

Hiro goes from raging at the sight of his mother having committed suicide, and being ridiculed by the online trolls, to finding some sort of peace by Shion asking him not to leave them, her grandma and her, behind. It was a really cute moment, because Shion realizes the monstrosities Hiro has done, yet she loves him dearly, so she plans to help him atone somehow.

Then, he starts helping and healing the people that are really sick, asking them for a simple re-tweet of the miracle he performed and to spread the word.

But of course, it can't all be sunshine and roses, as we see a SWAT team homing in on him on a calm, cool night...

Well, the binary confrontation continues, while the bipolarity of the antagonists takes some more strides, neither of the two have any sort of tying down with the real life, albeit a tiny little bit more for the antagonist, seeing as he's shown his powers on prime time TV is actually hunted by the government (considering those powers are technological and not supernatural, he'd be caught). Whilst nobody bothers the quiet quaint hero Inuyashiki ... his entire entourage seeming having fallen off the face of the fictional world, breaking the fourth glass wall in the author's head and into the author's narrative stupor.

There's no point of continuing to read this, so it'll end here.
Avoid it, just read/watch GANTZ instead. Inuyashiki a really weak manga with a lot of tasteless violence. Or maybe I'm just too damn old to be reading seinen/manga for teen boys XD

4Chan revenge sequence = good
Confusing and contradictory character = bad
What is the internal motivation of the character? It literally does not make sense. One moment high school terminator is murdering entire families and the next he's in love with his classmate and wants to save people.....
The only reasoning I can see for this is that the kid is simply looking for someone to take care of, or looking for someone to love him. But even then the complete 180 his character makes multiple times within the same chapter is mind numbing. I understand humanizing the villian, but have it be plausible and at least explainable.

Hiro is on the run and facing the consequences of murdering lots of people. Surprisingly, a classmate gives his shelter to deal with the fallout except that becomes almost too much when his mother commits suicide from all of the harassment by the media.

At that point, I can't exactly say I disagree with Hiro murdering all those 2chan trolls. But now he has to make up for his misdeeds. The question is, will it stick? And how long can he stay on the run?

This series has 10 volumes.

im glad he's decided to stop killing and the girl is helping him but...I don't think it can last. especially at the end i think they found him... I hope she survives, but my prediction is the SWAT is going to kill her and her grandmother and he's going to lose it again. he's not doing these good deeds because he wants to, he's doing it because she wants him to.
