When a young shifter girl’s parents are violently killed, Emily Matthews is sent in to help her cope with her tragic loss by using her unique gift. The only problem is that using her gift always throws Emily into a whirlwind of debilitating pain. However, she’s happily surprised when she finds solace in the shifter’s older brother.
It breaks Jackson Brooks’ heart to see his sister trapped within her grief, quickly fading away from life. Although his Itan has brought Emily in to assist, he orders her as far away from his family as possible. Jackson doesn’t care that his bear screams mate – he wholeheartedly refuses to mate with a simple human like her.
Just when the pair find common ground to stand on, Emily’s gift suddenly puts them at odds with each other. Jackson is forced to decide whether to fight for the special connection that’s brewing between them, or retreat to his initial assessment of humans and belief that Emily is using him and his baby sister for her own personal gain.

Emily is a human adopted into the bear world and she has quite a few gifts. One of these is the ability to touch the minds of others - to feel their emotions and to help them heal. This is why she's called in to Grayslake - to help Sage, Jackson's little sister who witnessed her parents being murdered by humans. Jackson is wary of Emily because she's a human but his bear knows that she's their mate. But even though he likes her and defends her against the prejudiced population of Grayslake, he can't bring himself to fully trust her. Emily knows the hurt that's coming. She knows that Jackson's inability to trust is going to cause her major pain, but she knows that he's worth it.
I loved the set up of this story. I'm kind of a sucker for paranormal gifts, like Emily has, so that's part of it. But I liked so much that Emily was different and that she knew what was coming, although the extent of her gifts and what that meant could have been a bit clearer...I was confused at parts. I know she's supposed to be a mystery, but when she starts talking about being at the murder, I was like, wait, what? But I still liked the events that were happening and the struggle between Emily and Jackson. He's pretty rude, but also pretty nice. I'm not sure they had enough interaction to really fall in love, but Emily sort of has preknowledge and Jackson knows she's his mate, so that could explain the quickness of it. But it's unfortunate that this story, with such an awesome plot and some really cool characters, had so many grammatical and typo errors. OMG. I almost couldn't continue, they were so bad - verb tense changes mid-paragraph, his/him used in place of he, missing words, all kinds of stuff. Author needs an editor...bad.

I don't feel good leaving a low star review. This book is so poorly edited and I feel the author has had time to correct and update and had chosen not to. This story has a solid storyline and great characters yet the grammatical errors and typos are so numerous they throw you completely out of the story. I found myself having to stop and go back to see if I missed something or misunderstood what the author was trying to say that I just couldn't enjoy this. I would gladly go back and re-read and edit my review if the author goes in and corrects the problems and we get an updated copy of this book. I will not be purchasing more from this author. When work like this is published its sad because it looked like she had some books that sounded great. This has cost this author a new reader. I love these Kindle Worlds books and have spent A LOT of time and money because they really do bring me awareness of a many authors I would not otherwise know and take a chance on. And had this been better edited I would have been one clicking a whole bunch of this authors other works.
Always do the right thing! This book is about doing the right thing, even when it is hard and especially when you know the outcome for yourself might not be favorable. The main characters in this book come through tragedy and adversity, but are able to come together to find their place in the world and a love that will last. I am a little bummed that there is a teaser at the end for another book, but that book has yet to be written. I would still read this book though as it is another great addition to the Grayslake world.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a well rounded story with Emily who is an empath and something unknown and Jackson a fierce frizzy struggling to help his sister following his parents death. I think this book ties in well to the Grayslake world. Looking forward to reading more from this author
Emotionally charged story. Hits the reader in the "FEELS". Fits very well into the Grayslake More Than Mated universe. If not for the editing/proofreading issues, I would have happily given this book 5 glowing stars.
I love this 5tory. This is my 4th time reading it. I Jewish it went a little further with her being pregnant now I’m anxious to read Griffith and Meredith’s story
