Lucy Brown has got it all – a great fiancé, her perfect wedding is all planned and her life is just how she wants it. She’s all set to marry Dan, but then the unthinkable happens – Lucy dies. She wakes up in limbo and is offered a choice – she can go up to heaven for eternity, or return to earth as ghost, and therefore be around Dan once more.

Lucy misses Dan terribly and decides she must stay with him, but she doesn’t bank on having to complete a mission first. Lucy must find the soulmate of computer geek Archibald, a huge in itself… let alone in only a few days! Will Lucy do it and manage to become a ghost or is she destined to a life without Dan?

This is a book I have been wanting to read for a long time. It’s not usually the sort of thing I read as I tend not to like anything “supernatural” or unrealistic, but I had heard such good things about Cally Taylor’s debut that I just couldn’t wait. Finally my copy arrived this week and I eagerly started to read as I wanted to make my mind up about whether I was going to devour it or wait a while. 100 pages later, I realised I was hooked, and didn’t stop until it was finished. Cally Taylor has previously written short stories for magazines etc but this is her first novel, and thats what makes this even more outstanding for me.

The book begins by introducing us to Lucy, who is preparing for her wedding to Dan. I immediately liked Lucy, she’s a great character and very realistic – some of the things she says I can hear myself saying! She’s funny and very normal, which I think is great because the story is a little “un-normal” of course! Lucy’s death happens very, very early in the book but it has to in order for the main bulk of the story to happen. It didn’t surprise me as I knew from the blurb she’d die but how it did shocked me a bit, a little more shocking than I thought but it isn’t dwelled on and I think Taylor has approached the issue very well. We also see a little of Dan who is a great character too, and I really liked the relationship between him and Lucy, it seemed lovely and was joyful to read about.

The thing I loved about this book is how well Taylor manages to transfer Lucy’s feelings of helplessness and grief at losing Dan onto paper so well. She writes with real emotion and I think this helps the reader to engage in the story a lot more because you are almost feeling every emotion along with Lucy. Some clever little things are thrown into the mix such as the rules Lucy must obey as one of the “living dead” and I found some of these quite funny, and some very sad too. The other two “undead” we meet, Claire and Brian, are brilliantly written, troubled souls who you begin to feel such empathy for and I think this is again because of Taylor’s writing and how well she puts across their feelings and situation.

I was unsure about how the idea of ghosts and “living dead” would be to read about and how Taylor would be able to put this story onto paper but for me it worked really well. She’s created a believable plot, which is no mean feat considering its something we know could never happen! You are willing Lucy’s mission to succeed so she can be united with her beloved Dan but at the same time, you know it won’t ever bring them together again so there is an element of sadness. It is everyone’s worst nightmare, leaving behind someone you love and having to deal with not being with them again, and Lucy has to experience this. The ending was a complete surprise, I didn’t expect the things that occured and for me it rounded off a brilliant perfectly – now I think about it, it couldn’t have ended any other way!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and found myself ploughing through it incredibly quickly because I just couldn’t put it down. By the end, I really cared about Lucy (and Brian and Claire too!) and this is testament to how well Cally Taylor has created her as a character and put her story into words. There are some funny moments, some cringy moments but also some touching moments where I admit there was a slight tear in my eye! The emotions of love and loss are well used here and the story is really well crafted. The book is divided into the days of Lucy’s tasks via chapters, and the writing style is so easy to read. I love first person stories, and being in Lucy’s mind just lets the reader love her even more. It’s a great book to read, and one for the cold winter evenings to warm your heart. Brilliant.

This is a chick-lit/romance novel with a difference. I don’t want to say too much and give the plot away, but it is different, quirky and hilarious. It also had twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. Overall, a fun, well-written book .

Lucy and Dan are set to get married. They have a little argument before he leaves the night before the wedding. Lucy does not say i love you too and regrets that decision. Lucy dies from a fall and ends up in a place called limbo. She can go straight to heaven or become one of the living dead.

She chooses living dead and has to complete a task in twenty one days. She has to find Archie a sole mate and she is successful. No thanks to Archie's grandmother who I still don't like much but do feel for her after her husband died. Not everyone who is successful however chooses to become a ghost some people still choose Heaven. Claire and Brian are both wannabe ghosts with one choosing to become a ghost and the other not.

Lucy's first choice I didn't think I would have taken because like Lucy I'd have wanted Dan to move on but when I would see how miserable he is without her my mind starts to agree with Lucy's decisions.

I didn't guess the ending at all. It was weird to be pleased two people were dead. I shouldn't have been so pleased Dan got run over by a bus but i couldn't help being happy with Anna watching. I was very pleased Anna didn't get Dan. Anna i really didn't like as a character i would be all for a person moving on in their own time but it was like she was stepping into Lucy's grave.

It was such a good book which was hard to put down.

DAMN THAT WAS QUICK, I'm proud of myself, never read book in one sitting
I'm giving this book 3 stars just because of the middle part, it was interesting ngl. There were, I gotta say, more weird parts than normal ones but ok
The whole point is kinda original to me, but the main character, Lucy??? Naah I don't like her
Also I had COMPLETELY different ending in mind, but this ones good too
Maybe this just isn't my type of books, who knows. And I think this would be a pretty decent movie ngl

Absolutely fantastic, unique, cute, unusual and with ending that no one could predict. I can not believe that we're talking about debut novel because this book is written with a style that resembles author who has many titles in her pocket.

Cally Taylor's Heaven Can Wait is a unique novel that will leave you sighing with happiness once you finish the last page. Although I'm tempted to lump it into the romantic fiction genere, this book is so much more than that. This novel is not a typical looking for love kind of story, but more of a tale revolving around what happens when true love is found, but you are separated from that person. This is the situation that Lucy Brown faces when she dies the day before marrying the love of her life, only to learn out that her best friend has started to fall for him once she's gone.
Taylor does a spectacular job creating characters that readers will adore. Lucy in particular is a perfect combination of wit, sass, and sincerity. Although the novel focuses around her loss, I appreciate that it wasn't a constant pity party, and that there was more to the story than her reminiscing on her old life and the life she could have had if she didn't die so unexpectedly.
"Chick lit" usually is not about surprising endings, but more so enjoying the journey to the predictable outcome. However, Cally Taylor managed to give us a great journey to a unexpected ending which I truly appreciate. On top of this she managed to give a beautiful lesson on how putting someone else's happiness above your own is the deepest indication of true love.

Sorry it's going to be a little harsh.

I'm not sure why this book is so popular. I guess the setting is more original than other typical chick lit.
I was annoyed with the main character (whose name I cannot recall) from the beginning. More than anything I didn't like the ending and its simplicity. I know it is a chick lit, but come on!! The most problematic of all in my opinion is that the ending encourages suicide in a way. I sometimes talk to people who are grieving as part of my job, and I would not recommend this book to them.
I'm probably in the minority to respond so sensitively to this matter, but I don't know... And what about that friend of the main character's? Sure she was bitchy, but she was in love with that guy (sorry I really can't remember their names). She will be traumatised after what happened to that guy! The book also explained that she struggles to get over a guy! She's gonna be destroyed! And what about the guy's family? Wouldn't they feel sad after he's gone?? I didn't get fluffy feelings or anything warm when I finished the book. Hugely disappointed. Sorry but it was too simplistic for my taste even for a chick lit (and I read a lot of chick lit).

I can't think of where to begin with how much I loved this book. It's definitely something unique. I don't think I've ever read a book with a premise like this. The book hooks you from page one and you are always kept wondering what will happen next. I was in tears by the time the end of the book rolled around. Cally Taylor did an amazing job with this book. I believe this is her debut book and it is just wonderful.

You know how there are some books you pick up and know from the first few lines you’re going to love them? Well for me this definitely was one of them! I immediately warmed to Lucy, who is a little ditsy but completely loveable. By page 9 I’d already laughed out loud a few times, with a scene where Lucy is reminiscing her first date with Dan having me in stitches, while scarily being able to relate to and cringe along with.

Lucy’s death happens very early in the book, but if your thinking this may sound a bit morbid you’d be wrong. The details of her death are kept to a very bare minimum, as that’s not what the story is about. If you’re completely unable to suspend reality and just go with a story then to be honest, this probably isn’t going to be the book for you. From this point on Lucy returns to Earth as a Living Dead and moves in with fellow wannabe ghosts Brian and Claire.

I absolutely loved the interactions between the three housemates, who are so completely different in every other way but one. While the story is told in the first person from Lucy, I also found myself really warming to both Brian and Claire and becoming wrapped up in their personal stories too. Despite being dead, the three all have something to learn about themselves before they finally pass on and I thoroughly enjoyed each ones journey. I thought Claire in particular was a fantastic character and her story is incredibly touching. Lucy’s human task, Archie is also extremely well written with characteristics that are so realistic I could imagine him perfectly. I think it’s a huge credit to Cally Taylor that in a story that defies reality, she manages to create such perfectly believable characters.

I flew through this book once I got time to settle down properly with it and finished the 370 pages in a couple of days. The writing is fast paced and I found it very easy to get completely engrossed in. I was also never quite sure where things were going. Lucy may well be a typical chick lit character, but her situation isn’t typical of the genre at all and so I really didn’t know quite what to expect. There are a few twists and turns along the way that kept me intrigued and a real shocker at the end which I didn’t see coming at all.

While I did have tears with this book, most of them came from laughing or because it was just so lovely and touching, not because it was depressing. Heaven Can Wait was a real emotional roller coaster of a read to me, taking me from laughter, compassion, sadness and joy. Lucy’s love for Dan is so simple and beautiful it’s hard not to get wrapped up in it all. If you love chick lit, then you will love Heaven Can Wait. Perfect beach read or cosy weekend in, this is a real treat of a book and I highly recommend!

I loved it so much! Chick Lit-esque, this one has ghostly going's on and despite the fact that the leading lady dies within the first few pages it's really funny. I especially loved the other characters. Stinky Brian was my favourite. Bless. He's got a rug in his room that smells like boiled cabbage and a Thomas the Tank engine duvet cover. Loved him!

Anyway, as mentioned Tess dies (on the eve of her wedding) and is given a choice - go straight to heaven or go back down to earth and become a ghost so she can hang around her husband-to-be Dan. She chooses to become a ghost so needs to pass her 'task' first and she's got 21 days to do it in. She shares a grotty bedsit in London with a couple of other Wannabe ghosts who also have their own 'tasks' to complete and it's impossible to not get dragged in to their respective dilemma's and feel for them. The characters are so well written that I pictured them clearly in my mind and couldn't put the book down until I knew how their stories ended. I really felt like I knew them.

Trainspotter Brian has his work cut out for him with his task and has some fantastically funny moments trying to solve it. Damaged Claire's has attitude and has erected a shield of bitchiness around herself to mask how vulnerable she really is (I felt really sorry for her). The IT guys are suitably geeky and it's like watching an episode of 'The IT crowd' when they get going (the boss especially reminds me of the IT crowd boss). Even the secondary characters are fleshed out and Sandwich Sally is like a little powerpuff girl - cuteness and sass all rolled into one. Love them all.

The only bit I wasn't overly fond of was the last chapter. I didn't care for how it ended. Really, given that this is chick lit it was the only way it could have ended but that doesn't mean I like it. The options were probably limited and another ending would have given a whole different feel to the book but I still wasn't keen on that last chapter.

That said though, I wish this was a series so that I could read more about other wannabe ghosts. I'd auto buy all the others if it was. I might even go back to this one for a re-read some time. I'd definitely LOVE to see this made into a movie!!

Targetnya bernama Archibald Humphrey-Smythe.

Heaven Can Wait memiliki pencitraan karakter yang kuat.

Heaven Can Wait bisa dibilang cukup menghibur.

Uoči vjenčanja Lucy Brown pomisli kako ima neizlječivu bolest jer joj se mokraća pjeni, no zaručnik Dan ju ismije i kaže kako je to novi osvježivač za wc. No, Lucy je ipak suđena smrt.

I was looking for a light chicklit after reading a very intense book before and chanced upon this book. The idea of the book reminded me of the Ghost Whisperer in someways.

It didn't take too long to warm up to the story. The plot was not particularly surprising, after all this is a chicklit. I always find that in chicklits the best parts are the journey to getting to the ending because let's be honest they are really predictable. The writing was good, i don't have anything against it. But i think the author's craft to get across the grief of Dan and Lucy is something to be commended on. It made me all fuzzy and warm inside.

Lucy's character is reminiscent of Sophie Kinsella's infamous Rebecca in the Shopaholic series. She often finds herself stuck in hilarious and impossible situations which made me burst out in laughter. I find Lucy to be very endearing and empathise with her situation.

All in all, i thought that this book is a fun and quick read that will tickle your funny bone. I enjoyed it a lot but i didn't think it was mind blowing.

Wonderful tale that made me feel sad yet had the ability to make me laugh most of the way through the book.
Lucy and Dan are planning their happy ever after but unfortunately the eve before their wedding Lucy has an accident resulting in her death. Waking up in Limbo she is told she has the choice of going straight to heaven or completing a task which will giver her the option of becoming a ghost and remaining in this world. As her last words to Dan were not pretty ones she opts to do the task and stay beside Dan forever.
Moving into her new home in the House of Wannabe Ghosts she meets smelly Brian the train spotter and Clare the Goth with a bad temper both attempting to fulfil their own tasks.Full of enthusiasm she cannot believe her task is to find true love for the most bring man in the Universe....is it even possible? She has 21 days in order to achieve this...can it be done?
Fantastic story that follows love and friendship both in the mortal and spiritual plains, first time reading this author and what a joy it was!

OH MY GAWD.

This book. THIS book.

To be honest, I wasn't really pleased with this book in the beginning. Cally Taylor's idea for the theme of this books is fantastic, BUT; it lacks description, the characters weren't describe properly and the dialogue was a little bit poorly. BUT! The emotions, oh God, the emotions. I feel in love with the end and I was sooooo worried and sad when at first I thought (spoiler alert!) Anna will take over Dan and Lucy will be so graceful to leave him to be happy with her and the end just made my emotions go BOOM. Brilliant.

So I think it fairly deserves 4 stars. :)

Typical, typical read! Ughh!!!!! I guess this was fine. Sorry, this book was so...ordinary. Something you read just to past time and when you finished reading, well you just kinda pasted (is that a word?) your time.

This is a type of book where you read and then discard. You forget about it after a day and well, just that. It was so like the other chick-lit out there. The characters, the plot, the dialogue does not stand out. There is no spark and no life in the pages.

What a disappoinment. WHy can't i find a good chick-lit book these days?

Kada sam trazila knjigu koju bi mogla procitati, htjela sam nesto sto ce me opustiti i nasmijati. :)

I really enjoy reading it. This is my first book of Cally Taylor that I read, but I will definitely read her others work. Firstly I love the style of writing, and the story line especially.
There was a lot of happiness, sadness, tears, even laugh moments, while I was reading it. I also like the way she expressed the relationship between roommates, relationship between Lucy and Dan, and between Lucy and Archie. Very emotional and funny story.
I recommend everyone.

Možda 2.5? Htela sam nešto da me nasmeje, nažalost nisam dobila to.

A fabulous book which kept me awake long after I should have been in the land of Nod. In Lucy Brown, Cally Taylor has created the kind of character we can all relate to and I was willing Lucy on all the way to the breath-taking end.
