About the author

Felipe Nunes is a comic book artist and illustrator
Started working with illustration at 2010`s, colaborating to some brazilian magazines like Recreio and Mundo Estranho.
As a cartoonist, published his first graphic novel back in 2014, Klaus, who was claimed and nominated for three-HQMIX, winning Best New Cartoonist. After this, did his second one, DODÔ, who will be republished by Panini on Spring of 2017. This year, illustrated the first issue of `O Segredo da Floresta`, a teenager comicbook written by Thedy Correa and published by Stout Club / Panini.
Had some short stories for anthologies and three oneshots just in 2018 (ASFIXIOFILIA, FLÆSH and ARREBATAMENTO)
In 2019, released CLEAN BREAK, a sci-fi graphic novel, Jabuti Prize finalist and published in Poland.
Currently, he does corporative comics and draws an upcoming comic book series.

I ended up reading this book twice.
Once the wrong way and a second time the correct way 😄

Someone didn’t do their job properly and put the introduction at the end of the book. I thought the comic was ordered in the western way and after becoming increasingly more confused, realized that it was set up like a manga comic, ie back to front.

The cover was also upside down, but that would’ve been a printer’s error 😉😄

Once I’d read it a second time, I quite enjoyed the unusual way the very young artist chose to portray an adolescent’s feeling out of place in society.

Para um ilustrador/roteirista de 20 anos, Felipe Nunes já mostra maturidade. Mas uma maturidade ainda em construção.
Klaus tem uma boa premissa. Um tipo de fábula contemporânea, envolvendo humanos e animais antropomorfizados.
A história começa um tanto devagar para uma HQ tão curta. O autor deveria ter aproveitado melhor as páginas iniciais para dar mais energia ao roteiro. Alguns diálogos também poderiam ser melhorados. E a trajetória do protagonista deslocado, perseguido, poderia fugir mais da receita de sempre.
O grande mérito de Klaus é a incrível arte em preto e branco. O traço é infantil, mas os enquadramentos e sombras dão um peso adulto a cada página. Em alguns momentos, é bem assustador.
Quando a trama realmente começa a ficar interessante, a HQ acaba. Mas o final não deixa de ser bom. Enigmático. A gente fica pensando nele após a leitura. O ilustrador Felipe Nunes já mostrou a que veio. Agora falta o roteirista.

I was not expecting much when I grabbed this book. However, what seemed like an ordinary book turned into being a deep and complex story of a little boy with a strange and mysterious life in an alternative reality. Definitely worth reading.
