SILVER Medalist in the 2017 Global Ebook Awards! I have overcome the odds of a pregnancy in the middle of the Rocky Mountains and given birth. I have struggled to remain hidden from the prying eyes of the global conglomerate called the Protectorate. I have resisted the robots, drones, droids, androids, and mechs that the Protectorate has arrayed against me. I have narrowly escaped the clutches of that indiscriminate killer, La Guillotine. I have fallen victim to the betrayal of those who professed to be my loved ones. I have discovered the true secret behind the radical origin and birth of that most heinous individual, the Overlord of the World. I have stared into the face of evil as it straddled the Golden Throne and ruled the world with an iron hand. I have entrenched myself in a final line in the soil against the ultimate battle that will end all battles. I did not think I would live to tell about it, fraught with peril and beset by soul-piercing danger on every side. But I did... I am Ashton Deveraux Forte. My story could be your story. But you would never want it to be. Not after what I've been through. Learn from my mistakes and avoid them altogether.

JK Battaglia grew up playing outdoors from sun up to sun down. But he was introduced to Bilbo and Frodo Baggins at the age of 12 by a cousin during one summer. And life hasn't been the same since as he began to devour fantasy and science fiction novels. In his adult life, he's branched out into other books as well, but his mind is at home in fantasy and science fiction. He wrote Photogeist, A Hope Of Life, and A Slice Of Life while working as a Software Engineer. He is also the author of 'Twas The Tragedy Before Christmas and other works. He cherishes all sorts of other things too - quite numerous to mention here but a few are movies, music, art, comics, treehouses, fishing, boating, robots, drones, animals, hiking, roller coasters, and learning about new technologies. When he's not writing, he's probably enjoying one of the above or just relishing in the outdoors. JK Battaglia lives in the greater Chicagoland area.

A Hope of Life is the sequel to A Slice of Life, however it also works as a stand alone novel. I enjoyed it without feeling lost or confused even though I hadn’t read book one. This story has action and adventure through and through and is set in a bleak dystopian future. The world building is incredible and would be enjoyable for science fiction fans who enjoy a faith based story that keeps you engaged from start to finish.

A Hope of Life is a Christian Science Fiction story in the vein of Left Behind and TV series, The Leftovers. The world has suffered a great calamity (the Rapture) and is now ruled by a single governing body — the Protectorate. What sets this book apart from the aforementioned stories is that its narrative is solidly rooted Sci-Fi.

There is a lot to like about this book: the compelling story, good action sequences and interesting world building. But ultimately, what I liked most about A Hope of Life is that it's a harrowing story about a woman desperate to save her children while not losing herself…or her faith.

The author's imagination weaves a story of struggle for those who won't comply. The dialogue peppered throughout kept me connected with the main character's quest, amid a vast amount of detail drawn to depict her new, and unfortunate, existence and her much needed perseverance.

It's an in-depth look at how Ashton Deveraux Forte must survive in a dystopian world. And survive she must because what is most dear to her heart has been snatched from her in a moment of distraction. She embarks on a mission across half the world to get it back. It's a harrowing tale fraught with danger and intrigue as the global conglomerate called the Protectorate and the one who leads it, Overlord Caspar, hounds her at every step. Filled with futuristic tech, genetics, and geonomics, it's a sure read with entertaining twists and turns. I recommend it.
