What a pleasant surprise to discover that this story was loosely based on a true story! I don't know what it is, but I love fictional stories based on real events or on true life, but I need that one word--fiction--to truly enjoy it.

Joss grew up in a tropical location and seems to be having a bit of trouble adjusting to life in the States. She comes across as quite timid, yet has no trouble shooting down the advances of popular playboy, Ben, her friend's brother. Ben has a penchant for origami and a stray pigeon, that he loves to talk to, and is bound and determined to win the heart of Joss.

This is a sweet and gentle love story, and while I would have loved it to be longer, it is developed enough to show the growth of characters, as well as a vivid plot. I enjoy romances that aren't easy to achieve, but don't overwhelm me with all the bad luck in the world. This is the perfect mix of anguish, longing, patience, and love, and is told in a way that brings the reader into the world of these characters. Not too long, it's a great book to read in a day, when a brain candy mood strikes.

Content: mild romance

Joss misses Papua New Guinea, it's where she grew up and it's her happy place. She's now living in the United States and hasn't found her way yet. She's a teacher and loves the job, but she's longing for sunshine and the days her mother was still alive. The last thing she's ready for is a relationship, but when she meets Ben she can't help but like him. He's got a past though and Joss doesn't want to get hurt again.

When Ben meets Joss it's clear for him that he wants to get to know her better. Joss is reluctant and he needs to find a way to make her realize that she isn't at all like the other women he's dated. He knows from the start that she's the woman for him. How can Ben convince Joss to give him a chance?

Paper Love is one of the sweetest stories I've ever read. Ben is endearing. He's cheeky and charming, but he also has fascinating hidden qualities that I liked a lot. He enjoys throwing a good party, he loves being a physical therapist and he's very fond of his family. His feelings for Joss are really cute and they melted my heart. Joss is quite serious, but she has a great sense of humor. She takes care of her loved ones and she's incredibly kind and smart. When she meets the dynamic Ben she makes it clear that his normally flirty manners aren't the way to win her heart. It was fun to anticipate what he would do to persuade her. Ben knows he and Joss are made for each other and he wants to show her his heart in an unexpected and creative way, which is wonderfully dreamy.

Aubrey Wynne has written a fabulous unique love story. Due to her parents being missionaries Joss grew up with faith and she's having a bit of a crisis. That gave the story an interesting angle. Both Ben and Joss have surprising personalities with so many adorable features. I especially loved Ben's passion for origami. Aubrey Wynne enchanted me with his disarming personality. She writes about her main characters like they're people she actually knows, which makes her story extra fun to read. I loved this special romantic novella and highly recommend it.

I found this story to be sweet and cute. I loved that it is based on a real-life couple and their relationship. Ben's popularity makes him come off as a flirt and a player, (which isn't my favorite) but when he finds what he's looking for in Joss, he is single-minded and determined to build a friendship and more with her. She is wary of men since her last boyfriend cheated on her, and really puts Ben in his place without being mean- just lets him know she's not interested in someone with his reputation. His sister is Joss's best friend and brings humor to the dialogue as she does her best to not get caught in the middle while still being loyal to both. She plays an important role in helping both Ben and Joss realize important things about each other and themselves. I liked the message of not letting a bad experience prevent you from living life, but to learn from it and give love another chance.

PAPER LOVE was such a sweet, heartfelt, lovable story! The romance was a slow-build, the characters were fully fleshed, and there were moments of heart, friendship, and family woven throughout. A delightful read for sweet romance readers!

The author did a great job of mixing the moments of heartbreak with humor and romance. I loved the way the story developed and I adored Ben who would face one of his major fears for something that Joss wants to experience. I loved how he wanted to understood her and how he grew to. I especially loved the ending!

In the end, was it what I wished for? Yes. Sweet, with all the feels, and a happily-ever-after ending.

Still grieving the loss of her mother, Joss Palmateer has no interest in going out and meeting people but her best friend, Becky, keeps asking her to come to Ben’s (Becky’s brother) Friday Single Parties. Joss mentions it on a whim before dinner to her sister (who wants to go) so they decide to attend. Once at the party, shy Joss meets Ben and the attraction is immediate. He asks her out but she politely says no. She’s still getting over the betrayal of her ex-boyfriend.

Ben Montgomery takes one look into Joss’ chocolate brown eyes and is smitten. Her no is a challenge for him and he does everything he can to win her heart, thanks to the help of a lost pigeon named Charlie. He’s charming, outgoing and it’s not until he shows an insecure part of himself that Joss lets down the walls protecting her heart.

A sweet romance from Aubrey Wynne and just what I needed after a hard week. From the moment I read the first sentence, I had warm-fuzzy thoughts fill me. See, I’m a total romantic and Paper Love is one of those feel-good romances that makes the world fade away. I loved the banter between Joss and Ben, Ben and Becky, not to mention between Ben and Charlie the Pigeon. While this is short story, the main characters were fully developed.

It was refreshing to read a romance where there wasn’t any billionaires, serious angst and so forth. This is just a sweet romance, taking place during the holiday season, with real people (like you and me) trying to figure out what they want out of life and falling in love. Brilliant! I swooned at Ben’s romantic side. I cried a little at Joss’ grief and struggling to move on past her mother’s death. The ending moved me so much I had to text my husband and tell him I love him.

1-click this book right now (and the whole series). You’re in for a treat!

Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author (via Netgalley) in the hopes I’d review it.

Favorite Character: It was hard to choose between Joss and Ben, as I loved them both, but I could relate with Joss more than Ben. Her caution when it comes to love and men in general made total sense, given her previous boyfriend (jerk that he is). I found myself nodding my head in agreement with her, most of the time, and the urge to hug her at certain moments in the book was overwhelming.

Favorite Quote: “Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are…”

A Sweet Christmas Story About Love and Family

Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne is the love story of Joss Palmateer and Ben Montgomery.

Joss Palmateer is a substitute teacher whose family were missionaries in Papua New Guinea. She's now back in the United States grieving the loss of her mother and missing the place where she grew up. Ben Montgomery is the charismatic physical therapist who's always been popular with the ladies, is very good at reading people, and has a love for origami. The two meet at a singles party that Ben is having at his house. Ben is captivated by Joss. She is unlike any woman he has ever known. Joss likes Ben, but is reluctant to pursue anything with him due to a breakup with a cheating ex-boyfriend and her uncertainty about whether to stay in the US or return to the home that is familiar to her and where she feels comfortable and safe. With the help of a slew of family and friends, Ben courts Joss and gains her trust. Soon the two fall in love.

I really liked this book. I particularly liked the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I found them to be very inspirational. This book offered some lessons that I could very well apply to my own life. I recommend this book to anyone who likes stories that are inspirational, or about sweet romance, family, or Christmas.

This second book in Wynne's Chicago Christmas series follows the delightful Dante's Gift. While this one features far more of Chicago as a character in itself within the setting, the human characters again shine through as well in a sweet, effortless story that makes for a light, easy read around the holiday time. Having lived in Chicago during my young adult years, I found many of the landmarks and personalities quite familiar, like coming home for the holidays! Pair the two books together (Dante's Gift and Paper Love) as a matched set for holiday giving, perhaps added to a reader basket full of goodies and make some romance fan's Christmas this year!

"A love story" It was my first Aubrey Wynne's book. The characters of Ben and Joss are endearing. Ben is so charming! The narration is also good. The story is based on a real story and the afterword is very interesting. I enjoyed the description of their visit to Chicago. The links to the Websites added at the end of the book concerning the places visited are also interesting. I liked the quotes at the beginning of the chapters. This is a beautiful love story. Romance, Mild Christian faith elements, clean.
This was actually more of a 3.5 for me as a reader, but rounded up the second time that I read this. I actually enjoyed this more the second time that I read it. I do feel that Ben was the stronger of the two characters, his emotions and feelings seemed to be drawn out more, while Joss's feelings and emotions were more flat for me as a reader.
That being said, Ben romanced her so beautifully. Perhaps, again that is why I felt like this was more his story than hers. His thoughts, emotions, were drawn out so much more than Joss's emotions and feelings. While Joss's story was told, and I did empathize with her, it really was the fall that Ben orchestrated that helped me enjoy this story, and even more the second time that I read it.
The interesting tid-bits with Ben's origami and the information with regard to Joss' family living abroad made for interesting tid-bits to savor.

What a cute romance to bring in the winter season. This is a clean and romantic romance about finding where you fit in and putting your faith in the hands of fate. Or letting destiny runs its course.

I always adore Aubrey’s stories whenever I need a break from all the sexy reads and just want a quick and sweet romance.

I absoluyely fell in love with Ben. He was definitely what I needed in a modern and easy going guy. He’s sweet, open, and caring. Plus, he’s smart and hilarious, and he likes to observe as much as he likes to entertain people. He’s the kind of guy you’ll want to keep as a friend but can’t help but have a huge crush on. He’ll be one of the few who’ll get you to laugh and smile unintentionally.

Joss is somewhat of a challenge to figure out if you don’t understand how her mind worked. I definitely could see myself in her by the way she rresponded and held herself back. Not to say that I’m werid but i just understood her. The way her mind drifts when she’s thinking or how animated she gets when she’s talking about something that interests her. I definitely  understood her when they went on their Chicago trip. All the art and design, history and museum, landscapes and structures… it definitely had my name written all over it.

It was definitely super adorable how Ben was trying to court Joss. He just knew she was the one and wasn’t pushy about forcing her to date him which was executed excellently. I liked how he approache the ssituation and would aske for advice when he’s in a tough spot, especially asking help from  his and her family.

One thing that kept bothering me was, Ben’s vocabulary. Like, what year is this setting? I know it had to be sometime within the 2000s to present day because of Facebook, but from the way Ben was speaking, or more like his choice of vocabularies, he brought to mind a gentlemen from another period (like historical romances). I know, that Aubrey knows, that I know, that she and I both love historical romances (and that she can absolutely write one), but I felt like she tried to hard to make Ben a gentleman (likable good great guy) and forgot that he is a contemporary modern man. If he was set back during the 1940s, I can see it, but as of right now during this generation X, I feel like it’s too, proper…? Too good to be real? Old fashion! That's it, old fashioned. But it was cute.

Anyways, this was definitely  an enjoyable read. I absolutely felt giddy and happy while reading this. It made me laugh and smile and i reas it all i  one sitting. I also loved the famous (or some well known) quotes from well known people at the beginning of each chapter. These life lesson quotes  eluded to the direction of how the relationship is heading, and also gets you thinking about your onw life (or maybe it’s just me but they’re to be taken to consideration). Plus, I love that this story was inspired by a real life romance courtship. Real Life!  The courtship, the origami? the ooccupations, almost everything! Gosh, this is what it means to have true love! So dang romantic~

But how I wanted them to be turtles… Turtles, Audrey. Turtles!!

So, hunker down on these cold winter days with this short and sweet romance. It’ll bring  in all the love for the coming season. Or read it all year round for the cute romance.

What made the experience of listening to Paper Love the most enjoyable?

Ms. Shekells was very easy to listen to. She had a soothing quality that made it very easy to listen to the story. Listening to the book during a hectic time of year, it's a welcome distraction

Who was your favorite character and why?

I can't say that I have a favorite character. They're all needed for this story.

Which character – as performed by Sara K. Sheckells – was your favorite?

Ms. Shekells does a great job of changing her tone when doing a male character. But if you are going to have a favorite character that she performs it would probably have to be Joss. If you've lost a parent, she's one that you can relate to. Although, I did not grow up in another country she did have me wanting to add that trip to my bucket list.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It's not a particular moment but being able to relate to a character because I know the loss of not one but two parents. Joss is someone a lot of people would be able to relate to. It was also sweet to watch her come out of her shell and let someone in.

Any additional comments?

The author has written a story that's sweet from beginning to end. It could be considered a holiday read but it's one that you could listen to at any time of year. Ms. Shekells makes it very easy to sit back and relax as you listen to her tell this author's tale.

Ms. Wynne does a great job of creating a champion for Joss and she just so happens to be related to Ben. She also is the voice of reason to Ben. Ms. Wynne has also created a character that doesn't talk but seems to be there for Ben as well. Her story will have you thinking about interactions you had with your siblings as you grew up. Plus how those interactions have changed as you get older.

What makes Ms. Shekells perfect for this story is that she is so easy to listen to. She doesn't have a harsh tone to her voice that could make it hard to concentrate. But I do have to apologize to both ladies. I tried to listen to this book while fighting a migraine. Do not attempt. It makes it hard to concentrate and sounds become amplified which do not make for an enjoyable experience. But what was nice that it didn't last forever and I got to enjoy the story in the end. This story lets you know that we still need to live life even when there are bumps in the road. It will be nice to listen to the book again - free of a nasty migraine headache.

I voluntarily reviewed an Audiobook copy of this book.

A treat to read
The genre of sweet romances is not really my bag. I have sometimes found them to be unbelievable and not that well written.
Not so with Paper Love. It has several things that make it a treat to read. First, the basic story is not just unique, it's true. Second, the author has a talent for character development. Third, the story is carefully written and researched, paying attention to details of the characters and their surroundings.
The heroine, Joss, and her sister, Laura, daughters of missionaries, grew up in Papua New Guinea. Joss earned a degree in teaching there, but when Laura received a free ride to a college in the Chicago suburbs, the family decided to move back to the United States. Then tragedy struck when the sisters' mother was killed in an auto accident. Laura, and the father, Dan, slowly adjusted; Joss didn't. Her mother's death, plus a disastrous relationship with a man, left her reclusive, with few friends and little social life.
When Joss meets Ben, the handsome, charming brother of her best friend, Becky, she is unimpressed. She realizes that Ben has always been a "player," dating a variety of women. Frustrated at her disinterest, Ben takes on the challenge of winning her attention with the "help" of his pet homing pigeon.
The author does an excellent job of developing all the characters, but especially Ben and Joss, showing how Ben's clever -- and sometimes humorous -- plots to attract Joss, and her responses, change their lives forever.
Along the way, there are vivid descriptions of locations in the story -- the attractions of Chicago, and a museum exhibit of Papua New Guinea so well researched it left me with a better understanding of the area's culture.
The ending, set during the Christmas season, is based on an ancient legend involving paper cranes, but I won't give it away. You're bound to read it and smile, finding it even more touching because it actually happened.

* I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Aubrey Wynne. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it. **

This was a cute, sweet love story that, while cleaner than i normally prefer, was still an enjoyable read. The characters were well-written and relatable and the plot was appropriately paced. This wasn't an insta-love romance and Ben actually had to work to win Joss over, and that was a nice change.

The emotional variety in this story was beautiful. From the lows of tragic, untimely loss to the euphoric highs of finding love, Ms. Wynne penned a story that was compelling, enjoyable, and moving. “Paper Love” had just enough of a realistic touch to be relatable while maintaining an overall feel of an approaching Happily Ever After. Ben and Joss were a couple that I rooted for from the beginning.

Ms. Sheckells was a fabulous narrator. She voiced the characters well and it was easy to distinguish each from the others, and her emotional portrayals were spot-on. She truly brought this story to life for me, and I’ll definitely be looking for more of her work! The recording was professional quality, with no random background noises, volume changes, or audible movement from the narrator. All-in-all, I’m glad I got the audio version of “Paper Love” as opposed to the print version.

Bottom line: I highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for a clean, sweet romance with depth. The narrator was also great, and I'll be looking for more of her work.

Joss Palmateers has spent her life with her missionary parents in Papau New Guinea but when her sister returns to school the family heads back to the United States to be faced with a tragedy. As Joss attempts to put her life back together she begins teaching and meets Becky Montgomery and his family.

Ben Montgomery has always been a ladies man and has never faced rejection before so when Joss says no to a date with him he is stumped by her. When he learns that Joss is wanting to return to New Guinea he knows he needs to do whatever it takes to convince her to stay. With the help of a homing pigeon he figures he may have a shot.

I really enjoyed this book. I felt so bad Joss as she tried to deal with her loss in an environment that she truly was not comfortable in. As she became comfortable with Ben and his friends she learned more about her "new" home but it was still so different than how she grew up.

I liked the change in Ben and could totally understand Joss's hesitancy towards a relationship with him. I loved how dedicated he was towards proving Joss wrong.

Such a sweet romance!

I was given an advance copy of the book Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne.

Paper Love takes place in a suburb of Chicago. This book tells the story of Joss and Ben.
Joss is a former missionary who has landed back in the United States because
her sister has the opportunity to attend a university at next to no cost. Ben is
an intern for physical therapy.

Paper Love invites us on their journey to love. We get to follow how they meet,
how they court, and eventually how they fall in love. Joss and Ben definitely did not
have a traditional courtship. Their relationship is deeply friendship and spiritually based.

This story is about facing your fears and putting yourself out there even though
you might be rejected.

One thing I appreciated about how this story was written is that it shows how
relationships take work and it's not always easy. Especially in a time when there
is such a focus on social media. We as readers can relate to this couple.

This story is set in the Windy of Chicago. It is about Joss Palmateer who grew up in a Papua New Guinea mission who is dealing with living in the U.S and the sudden death of her mother. She definitely has a different view on life and is not looking to fall in love. She doesn't have a social life until she meets her friends brother Ben Montgomery a sexy Physical Therapist. She ignores his advances but, he gets some help from a homing pigeon [that became Ben's pet], family and an old origami legend he attempts to win Joss' love. If you want to know what happens/ turns out you really need to read Paper Love romance novella which is included in the boxed set Christmas Pets and Kisses 2 to be released October 11, 2016 and is available for pre-order. Aubrey did an awesome job with this book!!

Growing up in a missionary's family life is different in the states. But Joss mom dies in a car accident she struggled to feel at home. Not sure if she wanted to go back or stay but knowing she didn't want to open her heart to get hurt from love again.
When Ben moved back, he wanted to have a fun way to reconnect with people his own age. When his sister had some of her friends come to the party Ben was shocked with the pull he felt from the moment he saw Joss. Never having a problem with girls he was shocked when she didn't seem interest back. Ben knew that Joss was different from the other girls he had met and made it his mission to get to know her more.
Would Ben be able to win Joss over? As friends or as more? Or will she find a way to avoid him?

OUTSTANDING!!!! This is the first ever book I have read by Aubrey Winner. I have been missing out to say the least. This book is so romantic it will make you swoon. This book is definitely swoon worthy. When Ben meets Joss the sparks fly and the chemistry is off the charts. They way Ben woes Joss is so romantic. This is truly a beautiful and touching story. I didn't realize til the end of the book that this story is actually based on a true love story. It is very heartfelt. I highly recommend reading this book.

I really liked how the romance developed. A lot of romances do insta-love when the characters don’t really have time to learn about each other and develop an understanding about the other person. This show love a little more realistically from interest developing into love as they came to understand and help each other. My only complaint is that I wish we got a little more about Joss’s backstory. The book mentions stuff but there wasn’t enough about where she was coming from to really understand how she became who she was.

Joss came home to take care of her family. They used to be missionaries. Her family talked about going back but then her Mom had the car accident.

Joss's best friend Becky invites her to the singles party that her brother Ben throws once a month. Ben is a love em and leave them type of guy until he meets Joss. Then his attitude changes.

This is a fun loving story that I think you will enjoy. And a must read for all romance readers. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Paper Love is a very sweet love story over Ben and Joss. I really enjoyed the characters and the relationship they built felt natural, as they took it slow. The book, takes place over months and not just a few days. However, you only see parts of their story, so a lot of time is skipped every time and because of that sometimes the story lacks a bit of detail and some background information. Overall a cute short story!

A sweet contemporary romance set in Chicago. Ben is a popular ladies man. He loves life and it shows. Joss has lived most of her life in a small village halfway around the world. She is feeling lost in the big city. Attracted to Ben, she refuses to be just another notch on his belt.
The characters are real, the family dynamics are great--they remind me of my family!

It's a cute story but it took me forever to finish it, and I skipped a lot of it. The main problem is the lack of conflict.

What a awesome story of two people so different but yet so much alike when they come together sparks fly and love happens with some trying times in between. There is so much fun and laughter in this book but at the same time so much sadness, lose and confusion. Joss has lost so much from the home away from home she misses so much but what she misses more is her mother and the love her whole family shared. Now it is just her, her sister and father who are trying to find peace in a world where they have lost so much. Ben is handsome, use to women falling for him but he is very caring. What both he and Joss have in common is shyness, a feeling over life being too much and trying to work out things in their lives.

Ms. Wynne does and outstanding narration with her character voice that give deep sexy tones to her males and lovely sweet sexy ones to her females. Her emotions are wonderful she has such a caring tone but can still reach those angry and lost ones very well. She brings true emotions to the listen that pull you in giving you a story you can buy into making it real. I loved how she brought out the fathers off the wall humor really making it a fun listen. She showed how truly caring each family member was and how so how painful it was to lose those you love. There are no background noises, no repeating of words, and no volumes changes just a truly enjoyable clean and clear listen. Her performance was outstanding which made this a win, win listen for me.

The author gives a compelling story of passion from different points on many different things. The love and lost of a dear mother, as well as the country they all adored. Each feel the loss in a different way but each are trying their best to support the other. I loved the father his off the wall humor matches my own so it was very easy to relate to him. Joss’s sister was fun but you sure could feel her pain. I have to say my heart went out to Joss the most because she is torn from the loss of her mother, supporting her family and still wanting to go back and support her adopted family. She sure does love it in the small village in New Guinea. She isn’t ready for love and thinks Ben is a play boy being able to pick any women he wants. Ben isn’t really into the one and only love but finds her very attractive and wants to get to know her better. He isn’t ready for her to turn him down and he isn’t giving up. He falls fast and hard, I really like how he deals with it all and do love his pigeon and how that came to be. I had many laughs over their time together. His origami takes my breath away and what he uses it for really is great. I really loved the buildup of this romance it was steady but easy. The two families help work it out with a few surprises along the way. I loved their day trip and how that plays out. Ben does have a few tricks up his sleeve. I loved the humor all throughout the book, the plot was outstanding, the characters even better.

Bottom line this was an outstanding read that really holds your attention pulling you in from the first page, keeps you smiling and laughing as well as giving you some sorrow and pain. This is the only audio the author has at this time I sure hope there will be more. I enjoyed this so much I bought the other two in the series. Now to just find the time to read them, they do sound as awesome as this one. I believe most people will truly enjoy the read. If you love humor it is a must. I do hope you will pick it up and you enjoy it as much as I did.

My Review

Clean, sweet romance with a Christian themes.

Starting over after any kind of heartbreak is difficult. Losing a parent is often tragic, and moving to a country you're not familiar with makes it even more of a challenge. For Joss, the only thing that will pull her out of her otherwise permanent state of hiding behind her family, is love.

A quick, sweet romance filled with love and the hope for the future, we follow Joss as her family helps her heart heal. Ben falls in love with her spirit, and is determined to win her heart. With examples of finding strength in faith, and an old legend about origami, he sets out to do just that.

Sweet romances are a great mood lifter, and this one was wonderful. Full of sugar and sweets, it's sure to lift any spirit, especially during the holiday season. Well written with plenty of humor and entertaining family dynamics, it was almost like a Hallmark film. The audiobook edition is even better, because the wonderful narrator brings the story to life fabulously. It's quick enough, you could put it on during a bath, and have an evening of a sweet relaxing love story. Definitely recommended.

*I was given a complimentary audiobook edition of this story, from the author, to listen to in exchange for an honest review.
