This novella occurs fifteen years after Ichabod Crane rid Sleepy Hollow of the wraith of a fallen Hessian soldier, the Headless Horseman, which terrorized the village. Now word has spread of the Horseman’s return. Ichabod’s daughter, Imelda, answers the call to investigate and stop the Horseman at all costs. Armed with her father’s sword, fighting prowess, and sharp mind, Imelda uncovers the secrets the Hollow has hidden for so long. New suspicions and old loves complicate her mission, as she finds that all is not as it seems in the little New England town.

Loved the twist on this favorite! As always I enjoy reading Schubach's work. This one, although short was very good! I hope he plans on a full novel based on these characters someday!!
“The Hollow” combines the magic of Erik Schubach’s imagination and the voice and delivery of Hollie Jackson’s narration into a very enjoyable “sequel” to the classic “Legend of Sleepy Hollow”.
It’s 1791, and despite the “modern times” of it nearly being the 19th century, MC Isabel must be cautious of revealing her true feelings for the beautiful MC Dorothy (Dot). The story provides an entertaining mystery of the ghostly horseman suddenly reappearing and beheading prominent men.
Much of the tale revolves around how men of the time were treated differently than were women when it came to improper sexual relationships, and how Isabel can’t wait for that situation to change as the world enters the 19th century. Ahhhh….we are, of course, still battling for respect and equality well into the 21st century. But I like the sweetly optimistic views expressed by Isabel.
This is a fun, standalone story, and I recommend it with 4.5*, rounded up to 5* for goodread’s rating system.
I love how Erik takes favorite fairytales and transforms them into new and exciting stories featuring a cast of witty, strong women. As always I enjoyed reading this new twist on a classic and am eager to read more of Erik's work. Imelda and Dorothy were kinda cute in their interactions. Keep them coming.
It's 1791, and Imelada Crane is in sleepy hollow. Following in her father's footsteps, 15 yrs later, she is called back to Sleepy Hollow to once again rid the Horseman from terrorizing the town. She must find out who and why he was summoned again. I absolutely loved this story. I'm a huge fan of the original story. And this was amazing. Without giving away any spoilers... there is a little romance to the story also.
"I swear my soul was crying as we pulled apart." 🖤
Erik Schubach and Hollie Jackson are a combo I can never pass up! He writes such great stories and she is the perfect narrator for his work! This book takes place 15 years after the Horseman incident in Sleepy Hollow. The Horseman has returned and it's up to Crane's daughter to save Sleepy Hollow this time. Erik even throws in a little romance, a very nice touch I think! Hollie, as always, does a great job with each of the characters!
I really enjoyed this story. A unique take on the headless horseman. The characters were vibrant and fun and the story kept me reading all the way through. A wonderfully fun read.
An interesting take on the Sleep Hollow story. I "read" it via Audible and it was of course another well done story. My only complaint is it was a short story. I think it would be a great way to start a monster hunter series.
I was planning on trying this again later to see if it would hit better, but having just decided to quit another series by this author, I've realized his writing just isn't for me.
