I received this cookbook at my bridal shower from my Grandma Lee. I have decided that (in an effort to expand my cooking horizons) I would like to attempt every single recipe in this book- all 565 of them. It will take me at least 2 years... likely more (assuming I do not lose my desire/will to do it).
After deciding to do this, my grandmother told me I should watch Julie & Julia. I now feel like my task is much easier because a) I have not given myself a firm deadline and b) this cookbook is so much simpler than French cooking!
I am going to try to keep a running list of which recipes I have tried below... with ratings out of 5 stars and the date I first attempted it.

100 Recipe Update! Wow! Already 100 recipes in! At the same time, I am also thinking "only 100 recipes in..." because this is really only 17.7% into the book... but still! 100 is a LOT regardless of how many there are left to go! Chris is starting to get sick of "THE BOOK", so I decided to take a short break... I am going to start taking it a bit slower as to not overwhelm him with "experiments" from now on.
Side Note: Things are about to seriously slow down... I began a full-time job on 8/10/20. Only a week in, and I already do not understand how Julie was coming home every single day to put together a new recipe. I will probably be dropping down to only making one a week...

300 Recipe Update!!! My pace has significantly slowed down... I sort of got out of the habit of cooking for a while. But I am hoping to get back into it!
My mother-in-law kindly gave me this cookbook several years ago. It is jam-packed with recipes (but no photos). All are vegetarian but only some are vegan. I am not interested in making most of the recipes in this book, but there are so many that it's not hard to find ones we're interested in.
This cookbook feels nostalgic to me. The recipes are submitted by people from throughout the country, and I love seeing the cooking heritage of so many people and regions coming together! This book is very eclectic because of that, and I love it.
There are some interesting recipes in here. My main problem is that it is NOT a slow-cooker cookbook. It is a vegetarian cookbook that just happens to include slow-cooker recipes. To be fair, the book does says this on the front ("565 Delicious Slow-Cooker, Stove-Top, Oven, and Salad Recipes"), but being part of the Fix-It and Forget-It series, I was expecting the focus to be solely on slow-cooker recipes.
Each recipe has an icon at the top telling whether it is a slow-cooker recipe, so I flipped through the different sections and did a break-down, noting how many are actually slow-cooker recipes, and how many are "other" recipes (oven, stove top, etc).
Appetizers, Snacks, and Beverages: Slow-Cooker - 6, Other - 29
Breakfast and Brunch: Slow-Cooker - 5, Other - 27
Bread, Sandwiches, and Pizza: Slow-Cooker - 1, Other - 62
Soups, Stews, and Chilis: Slow Cooker - 43, Other - 20
Pasta: Slow-Cooker - 12, Other - 36
Beans and Legumes: Slow-Cooker - 17, Other - 18
Grains: Slow-Cooker - 10, Other - 27
Vegetables and Fruits: Slow-Cooker - 23, Other - 69
Eggs, Dairy, and Cheese: Slow-Cooker - 6, Other - 26
Not impressed. Truly looked through it all and came up with zero. Was looking at vegetarian with my son in mind. Guess I have to keep looking or learn to make a few meals with tofu. I’ll keep looking.
I have tried a dessert recipe as well as half a dozen main course recipes, following each as directed, and my family has enjoyed each one, even asking me to make them again. The meals are full of flavor and easy to make. Highly recommended cookbook that I will turn to each week for meal ideas.
Some great recipes in there, but my reason for three stars is that it is NOT a slow cooker recipe book. This is basically a vegetarian cook book with some slow cooker recipes. Very disappointed as I bought this in a effort to add more veggies to our diets and my time for cooking is minimal.
Vegetarian, or just someone who wants to cut back on how much meat you eat, this book is a great choice. There are lots of recipes to choose from, that cover just about any kind of meal you want. Worth checking out.
I don't use a slow cooker but there are plenty of recipes that don't require one. The recipes are old school in the best sense; they are also simple and use readily available ingredients. I found quite a number I'd like to try.
