Why People Suck

You’ve heard of Sigmund Freud.
You’ve heard of Carl Jung.
But have you heard of Abe Surde?

Surde is a humorist and master mixologist who tackles, with a smile and a wink, one hundred commonly irritating and upsetting personality types seen in everyday life.

From disconcerting creeps to loudmouth louts and worrisome weirdos, Surde shares with readers his channeled theories on the origins of bad behavior and why people suck. His assemblage of wacky yet clever musings combined in a quasi-serious and silly way adds levity to a world gone mad.

This nonsensical collection amuses while simultaneously serving kernels of truth that surprisingly hit the mark. Surde's “divine” insights will tickle your funny bone unexpectedly, the way a dramatic comedy can suddenly spark a fit of laughter, because you didn't see it coming.

The book version of WHY PEOPLE SUCK is a great icebreaker for parties and a fun distraction for anyone disturbed by the actions of another. It's also the perfect gift for that special someone in your life.

Note of warning for delicate readers: the book contains adult language, references to sex and drugs, but only minimally to rock and roll.

WHY PEOPLE SUCK is Surde's debut collection of hilarious insights into the origins of rotten behavior.

On a hot New York summer's eve one fateful day in July, Surde was accidentally knocked unconscious by a statue of Athena which caused him to fall into a coma for 24 hours. When he awoke, he found he was no longer the same man as before; he had become a psychological intuitive.

Surde's newfound ability allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of the human condition and to penetrate the true origins of bad behavior. With tenacious research and much reflection, he grew to understand the root of many crappy behaviors, some of which are sure to shock readers, including human experimentation by intergalactic aliens, manipulation by miserly sorcerers, and even genetically-modified fruit flies. If you are searching for ridiculous explanations beyond the traditional psychological models and theories, look no further.

Readers’ Comments
‘I thought this was really funny. Not everything hit the mark, but most did. And, yes, people can suck!’ Male reader, aged 29
‘This is not a self-help book, which is why I loved it. The author, although accurate in many about the things he says, always keeps things light and funny. He looks at an array of annoying characters and how best to deal with them. If you take it as it is: ‘cheery and good-humoured’ you’ll enjoy it.’ Female reader, aged 50
‘There are a lot of personality disorders out there in the world. This author works hard to identify them in a witty way. Had a crap day in the office dealing with an annoying co-worker, this might just cheer you up.’ Male reader, aged 54
‘I’d happily read another book by this author.’ Female reader, aged 29
‘Although this is funny, there is an underlying truth to this author’s insights into people.’ Male reader, aged 28

To Sum It Up:
‘Had a bad day at the office? This will help. Very clever and very, very funny. A FINALIST and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards

Okay, full disclosure, I wrote it. I have to love it or I can’t justify those four years of turning down invites to clean the litter box and terrorize voles out of the yard—for the sake of “the book.”

This book was not meant to be a cover to cover read although no complaints if you do so. It’s meant to be more of a distraction, your own personal therapy you carry with you when someone irks you and you have no real recourse, like the son of a beotch—who happens to be the son of the boss—who tells you he doesn’t like the size of your moustache. Or when you’re on the crapper and can’t commit to a lengthy story but want some quick entertainment because there’s a line of little peeps ready to barge in and do a “number two” right on your foot. Or when you’re throwing a party and a couple of shrinking violets you were obligated to invite need an excuse to start a conversation. Or for that in-law who could really use a hint.

Some will laugh, some won’t, but I hope to eventually get a smile in there somewhere. We need humor to offset the craziness in our lives.
