New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Ruth Cardello returns with an irresistible series about sexy billionaires and the strong-willed women who tame them.
Brett Westerly is his father’s golden child, but it’s come at a cost. As head of the family corporation, he throws himself into his work—hiding in his office is easier than confronting the reality of his broken family.
After a bitter divorce that split the family and divided loyalties, the wealthy Westerly matriarch offers an early inheritance to any grandchild who marries and invites the entire family to the wedding. Brett’s brother Spencer rashly gets engaged, and Brett knows it’s his duty to intervene. But he never imagined the unwelcome desire Spencer’s fiery fiancée would spark in him. Now the man who’s used to getting everything he could want has met the one woman he can’t have.
Ever since she was a girl, Alisha Coventry considered Spencer and his sister Rachelle the family she didn’t have. When Spencer asks for her help, Alisha has no problem becoming his fake fiancée—until she meets Spencer’s sexy older brother Brett. The chemistry between them is undeniable—forbidden—but as their relationship deepens, Brett is determined to have her.
Alisha only wanted to help the family make amends. Now she’s falling for the wrong Westerly.
Ruth Cardello hit the NYTs and USA Today for the first time back in 2012. Millions of sales are evidence that her books are akin to potato chips, addictive from the first one. She has created a multi-series billionaire world with a combination of escapism and realism that has gained her a faithful following of readers.
What Kindle Reviewers write about her:
"Wow hot at every page. Heart stoping, fear raging, mind blowing wonderful."
"I'm a true fan of Ms. Cardello. I ran on to her first book a few years back and have been hooked ever since. I could go on and on about the story like of this book, but I'm not. All of her books are total page turners, unique, heart wrenching, and I love them all. There isn't two alike in the bunch and I feel like i know the characters personally. I personally read 97 authors books. And I buy every book they put out. This author is in my top 10. Great job and keep them coming."
"Love this series. Got me to start reading again. I look forward to the next book. Thank you for giving me the love of reading back."
Ruth Cardello was born the youngest of 11 children in a small city in northern Rhode Island. She spent her young adult years moving as far away as she could from her large extended family. She lived in Boston, Paris, Orlando, New York--then came full circle and moved back to New England. She now happily lives one town over from the one she was born in. For her, family trumped the warmer weather and international scene.
She was an educator for 20 years, the last 11 as a kindergarten teacher. When her school district began cutting jobs, Ruth turned a serious eye toward her second love- writing and has never been happier. When she's not writing, you can find her chasing her children around her small farm or connecting with her readers online.

In The Heir (Westerly Billionaire #1) by Ruth Cardello
There are three lessons that my Grandmother taught me. A person is never too old to stop learning. It's not enough to crave or receive love, you must give love in return and lead by example. She was a wise woman, who was not afraid to practice what she preached. Until the day she died, she led by example in all she did. Including owning up to her mistakes. I still miss her, but carry all she taught me within my heart. The Westerly clan could have used some of her wisdom. With In the Heir, Ms. Cardello lays the groundwork for rebuilding a broken family. The Westerlys are far from perfect. Anger and pride has set to destroying a prominent dynasty. Can forgiveness, restore the foundation before it topples completely? In The Heir is a story of romance, friendships and family, that is written and rooted in the most powerful emotion in the world. LOVE.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. This was my first experience with Ruth Cardello's writing and I am very happy that it turned out to be a positive one. I actually won a copy of the second book from the series but decided that I wanted to start at the beginning which turned out to be a very good choice. I ended up listening to the book in only a couple of days because I was having such a good time with it.
I went into this book expecting a romance and it did deliver on that expectation but I was surprised that the story surrounding the Westerly family would be such an important element in the story. When Delinda Westerly offers an early inheritance to the first grandchild who marries and invites the rest of the family, Spencer and his friend, Alisha, make plans to walk down the aisle. They are not in love but are great friends so they see no problem with the arrangement.
Brett meets Alisha through Spencer and can't get her out of his mind. Alisha isn't afraid to stand up to the anyone and does just that when it can protect those that she cares about. When everything falls apart, Brett is the one who is there for Alisha and I loved watching their connection to each other grow. I thought that these two characters worked really well together and I liked how they seemed to bring out the best of each other.
Terri Clark Linden did a great job with this book. I thought that she handled a pretty diverse cast of characters very well and brought a lot of emotion to the story. I have listened to her work several times and have always found her narration to be very pleasant to listen to.
I would recommend this book to romance fans. I thought that this story was really compelling and filled with wonderful characters. I plan to read much more from Ruth Cardello in the future.
Initial Thoughts I really liked this romance. Brett and Alisha were both fantastic characters that I wanted to see work things out. They were both so giving and really cared about the people they were close to. The family drama in this one was pretty complex with a lot of side characters experiencing a lot of pain along with Brett and Alisha. I thought that the narration was very well done and added to the enjoyment of the story.
It's been ages since I've read a story by Ruth Cardello. I've missed her sweet stories that get me super addicted. I'm already obsessed with the Westerly's and their family drama and their series has just begun. Let me tell you, the rich have drama like you wouldn't believe! In The Heir was the story of Alisha and Spencer's engagement until the groom's brother steals her away. Well not really, since it was a fake engagement anyways to help Spencer earn his inheritance. Sparks are flying between Brett and Alisha. As much as Alisha turns Brett away, the man knows what he wants and will stop at nothing to have her. Spending time with Alisha makes him kinder, more caring and he starts to lose his edge. Unfortunately, the family is not too thrilled with Alisha spending time with Brett and they will do their best to keep them apart because there is bigger issues to deal with in the family!!!
"I don’t want to be like my father. Rich. Bitter. Alone."
As I said, I really missed Ms. Cardello's stories and this was a great start to a whole new series I'm already hoping for in my mind. I can't wait for new stories of each of the siblings (PLEASE TELL ME THERE WILL BE MORE)! This was a pleasant storyline and something light yet fun to read when I wanted to disappear from the land of the living and dive into a whole new world. 4 incredibly sweet stars!!!
Ruth Cardello did it again and came up with a book where the reader will have an absolute enjoyable ride.
In the Heir is book one in Ruth Cardello's new series (Westerly Billionaire). The story opens to Delinda Westerly who decided she had enough of her grandchildren's neglect and came up with a plan that would bring them together.
It's been years since the divorce that nearly destroyed her son and his kids and it was time to intervene. Believing that love heals all wounds Delinda decided to give an early inheritance to the one who marries first and succeed to envite the whole family to the wedding.
Spencer Westerly was tired of being the second in the line. Living with his mother and her new husband after the divorce was better than living with his cheating father and his cold-hearted brother Brett. Receiving his inheritance would give his company a great push. Of course there was no way he was getting married to get the money, but since his sister's best friend Alisha was ready to help, a six-month marriage contract wouldn't complicate things.
Many people thought that Brett Westerly was a cold-hearted asshole who put himselp first, had zero interest in his family and lived for work and money. He was Ok with that because that would protect him from getting hurt again.
His family? Nobody should know how much he was involved in their lives. But when Brett heard about his brother's fake engagement, he wasn't going to sit and see his Spencer making such a huge mistake for the sake of money.
When Brett invited his brother to try and convince him not to follow his grandmother's crazy plan, he wasn't prepared for the sassy firecracker that stood to him and messed up his head with her beauty and words.
“Her words rang in his head: “What kind of monster are you?” Apparently, the kind who wants to fuck my brother’s fiancée.”
Nobody ever stood to Brett, the fire he saw in Alisha's eyes matched his and there was noway he was letting the two make such a mistake. Something about Alisha made him want crazy things..
“A smile tugged at her lips. “Your tone of voice alone makes me want to say no.” His heart thudded in his chest . “Funny, the way you look at me makes me want to hear you say yes.”
He would prove that the engagement was fake then hopefully try to convince Alisha to explore the things they felt whenever they come near each other.
“Remembering the light scent of her, the feel of her soft skin beneath his lips, he wanted to taste, claim, and pleasure every inch of her. Alisha, lying naked across his bed, offering herself to him, brought him to an uncomfortable level of excitement.”
This book was both funny and emotional. The events, the secrets and the surprises that came through the story were somehow unexpected but there was mo doubt that In the Heir was fun to read and I'm sure the story of Spencer would be far more enjoyable.
I was given this ARC by NetGalley as an exchange for an honest review.
Alisha is such a nice person that she is willing to put aside her happiness to help the Westerly's. Pretending to be Spencer's fake fiancé was a good idea in theory but once Alisha met Brett all bets were off. The instant attraction between Brett and Alisha was fun to read specially when they both knew they couldn't do anything about it without hurting the family. The more time they spend together the more they realize that they are both perfect for each other. Sometimes when you love someone you have to go by what makes you both happy and not go by what makes others happy. I'm glad that both Brett and Alisha were able to find their HEA with each other. They both deserved to finally find happiness after the childhood they both had. A must read! I can't wait to read what will be in stored for Spencer and read a bit more about the Andrade's.
This was my first Ruth Cardello book and may I say it was a terrific choice. She has written an awesome storyline with characters that will have you laughing, hurting right along with them, sighing and last but not least thinking OMG do people really act that way!
When the matriarch of the family, Delinda, gets her feelings hurt because the grandkids don’t show up for her 80th birthday, she comes up with a plan to get them back into her life. Sadly the plan backfires but it does set off a whirlwind of events that will keep you glued to the pages and leaves Brett, the oldest grandchild, scurrying in an attempt to fix things. BTW whoever said money can fix everything obviously doesn't know the Westerly family, because one thing's for sure it can’t buy love.
2 Thumbs Up for this wonderful story and I for one am anxiously waiting to see what Delinda and Stephanie have up their sleeves for the next Westerly grandchild.
When a teaser shared a month ago pull you into wanting that book, you have very high hopes. Well Ruth did not disappoint me and she basically through me for a loop with some of the events that took place. Brett, Alisha, Spencer triangle was just wow and throw in doubt, betrayal, and misplaced feeling you have a masterpiece on your hands.
She always does this and suck me in until there is nowhere to go. I am a sitting duck until book 2 but know I am an addict for yet another Ruth creation.
Ok it just might be the end of the school year blues, but I just did not get into this book. The second in a row.
To me it started off ok. Then it turned into one unbelievable thing after another. 1. After many years of not talking the siblings now are close and call each other all the time. 2. Brett changes his tune after one meeting with Alisha and he is instantly a better man 3. Alisha scarafices what she wants because her friend is more important then her even when they treat her like crap. Doormat. 4. After knowing each other for about two weeks they want to get married. 5. Bitter rivals come together to make things right. 6. I still love my ex and never really loved the man I left him for.
Need I say more soap opera to the max.
Received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
The Westerly family have skeletons in their closet like most families, being powerful, rich, and of social standing doesn't change that. Brett, the oldest sibling has modelled himself on his father, followed his lead, taken over the family company, won at any cost. Bretts parents divorce split the siblings at a young age, Brett and brother stayed with their father, two sisters and brother went with his mother. His grandmother has a notion to bring her dysfunctional family together with the power of love. This is the story of how wrong and how right it turns out. Enjoy the ride with this one, Ruth Cardello has a writing flow that pulls you in and before you know it you've finished the book - enjoy
I'm not sure if it was my mood or if this just didn't wow me. It was good, but not great. I was never pulled in by either main character. I'm not sure if I will move on to book 2.
This is book one in the Westerly Billionaire's series. This book is about Brett Westerly and Alisha Coventry.
Meet Brett Westerly. Brett is his father’s golden child. However for Brett this has now come at a huge cost. Since Brett is now the head of the family corporation. Brett then throws himself deep deep into his work and to maintain the Westerly's name in the headlines. Brett soon discovers that with him hiding all the time in his office, It's so much easier than having to confront the terrible reality of his very broken family.
A bad divorce which was between Brett's mother and father that caused the split and then the family had divided loyalties. Brett's grandmother (the wealthy Westerly matriarch) decides to offer her grandchildren them their inheritance very early. The catch they have to marry and then invite the entire family to their wedding.
Then suddenly Spencer , Brett's brother hurriedly decides to get engaged to the fiery Alisha Coventry. This is probably a mistake that Spencer may make and end up divorcing like his parents.
The beautiful Alisha Coventry has always considered Spencer and his sister Rachelle family. Alisha doesn't have any family of her own anymore. Spencer suddenly pops the marriage question to Alisha. Then Alisha she has no problem in becoming Spencer's fake finacee. Alisha thinks she can love Spencer how a wife should love her husband but suddenly that all gets turned upside down when Alisha meets Spencer's very sexy and panty-dropping older brother Brett.
If you are a fan of Ruth Cardello, or even if you are new to her, you will be delighted to know she has a new series out. In The Heir is the first book in her Westerly Billionaire Series. There are some minor characters from her Andrades series. The uncles are back and helping the Matriarch of the Westerly family bring their divided family together again. With the theory of, "Love Conquers All." She has put a mandate that in order to receive an early inheritance, they must be married.
Having his hopes and dreams within reach, Spencer Westerly asks his good family friend to help him with his grandmother's new clause. He needs his inheritance so that he can build the company of his dreams.
When his brother Brett begins to question Spencer's integrity, the last thing he expects is to be at the wrath of Alisha Coventry. There is something about Alisha that Brett cannot just let go of, and it has nothing to do with the fact that he knows his brother's engagement is fictitious. Her stubbornness, and fierce loyalty just might be what wins him over.
I love how Ruth Cardello has intricately woven story lines from her other series into this new stand alone story as well as created possibilities for future stories to be told. I can't wait to read more from this talented author. The Westerly's seem like an interesting group and I can't wait to read more about them as well!
This new series is about the Westerly family and the chaos that happens when several family secrets come to light and cause a lot of pain and heartache for them. The oldest Westerly, Brett, has always put business first no matter the cost to him or those around him just like his father did. However, this cost this father his family and Brett has come to realize he doesn’t want this same life for himself. When he meets his brother, Spencer’s, fiancée it turns everything he has ever thought and believed about himself upside down.
Alisha Coventry has pain and hurts from her childhood that no child should have to deal with but it has made her the woman she is today. She always wants to help those around her and she and her friend Spencer Westerly has come up with a brilliant plan to help with his dilemma. Little did they know it would send shockwaves through the entire Westerly family.
I have read all the books this author has written and each new one gets better than the one before. Her stories are always filled with family, loyalty, strength; sometimes there is pain with messy situations but always hope for something bigger and better. There is always love that is stronger than anything you can imagine. I love her alpha males who want to take over and “fix” everything but always end up learning a bit about themselves and what they really need to do in order to make the people they love truly happy.
I'm always excited to see a new book released by Ruth Cardello....and it was no different when I saw this upcoming book. A new set of brothers and sisters to read about, and I can't wait to see each one fall. If you are upset that this book has nothing to do with the Andandre's then you will be pleasantly surprised to know that some of them make cameos throughout the book.
Brett at first glance is an asshole but he quickly proves that theory about him wrong. Alisha on the other hand is the polar opposite on Brett but together they just work. I was a tad irritated with Rachelle through this book...her whole stay always from Brett nonsense was ridiculous. She basically treated Alisha in that moment that she was not (for lack of a better term) good enough for her family. She clearly blamed Alisha for her family issues when Alisha was the least to blame for anything.
Overall this was a great start to what's looking to be another great series, and I can't wait to read more about the Westerly clan.
Advanced copy received by publisher for an honest review
I haven't read a book by Ruth that I didn't totally fall in love with. This is no different. The Westerley's are one dysfunctional family. But they all have goodness in their hearts! Brett is no exception. He tries to do right by everyone. That's why he doesn't go after Alisha at 1st. Alisha is in a terrible bind but loyalty trumps everything, even her own happiness. I love it when they finally realize nothing stands in their way, Their love was worth waiting for. I can't wait to read the continuation of their story in Spencer's book !!!
Another awesome story from Ruth Cardello. It's going to be so much fun to watch the divided Westerly clan work through their anger, the lies they've been told and the mistakes of the elders in their family. The family split by divorce slowly learns that all is not ever what it seems. I'm so looking forward to all the Westerly books. Ruth is so good a weaving a story that pulls you in and makes you feel all the feels of the characters which are developed so well you feel like you've known them in real life all your life. Another great read. I loved it.
This is my first book by this author, and I can see why she's been successfully publishing contemporary romance books for a while. When the romance finally kicked in, the chemistry between Brett and Alisha made this a hot and enjoyable read.
In the Heir is the first title in the author’s new series about a rich family, the Westerly, and the women (and I’m guessing men, too, since there are also sisters involved) who fall in love with them.
In this story, Alisha agrees to “fake marry” her childhood friend Spencer, but ends up falling in love with his brother. The forbidden romance arc immediately grabbed my attention, and it was the best aspect of the story, no doubt.
My biggest problem with In the Heir was that it took too long to get to the best part. I’m not talking about slow burn romance, because I’m a fan of that, but the fact that there were too many subplots, and they ended up taking away from the romance.
The first few chapters were too heavy on the whole “Grandmother is forcing us to marry in exchange for an early inheritance”. We started with a chapter from the grandmother’s POV, and I simply wasn’t feeling it. I get that it was important to set the theme for the entire series, but I wish it had been handled differently.
Since I wasn’t a fan of that beginning, it took me a while to get into the story. I have to say that the moment Brett and Alisha went on that cruise, things improved a lot. The story finally focused on them and their chemistry, and I started enjoying it. I only wish things hadn’t felt so rushed toward the end. Their HEA didn’t feel natural enough, and I blame it on the chapters in the beginning and in the end wasted on the inheritance subject.
So while I did enjoy the romance, I think the book would’ve benefited from focusing more on Alisha and Brent than on the other characters and everything else that was happening with the Westerly family.
I have loved the meddling ways of Victor and Alessandro Andrade, in Ruth's other series. So, I was very happy to see them passing on this tradition to the Westerly family. Delinda is a character that is hard to love, due to her sharp tongue and frosty demeanor. Her plan to bring her family back together by marrying off her grandchildren is crazy, but it's definitely going to be fun to read. I really enjoyed Brett and Alisha's story. He fits the mold of the workaholic, arrogant billionaire to a T. Being a kindergarten teacher gives Alisha a vastly different view of life than Brett. The things she went through in her childhood have shaped her ability to trust. I loved her sweet nature and willing to do anything to help those she loves. Her relationship with Brett's family was precious, whereas his was broken and strained. The way things evolved between these two characters was a beautiful journey. I thought their connection was strong from the start, as was their chemistry. I liked that they fought their attraction as long as they could, then exploded on impact. They both learned so much about themselves, as they grew closer together. I am really looking forward to more from the Westerly family.
Well, Ruth Cardello has hit it out of the park again. In The Heir is the first book of her Westerly Billionaire series. And, oh boy, was it good! Brett Westerly reminds me of my first book boyfriend, Dominic Corisi. He's intelligent, cocky, and has just the right amount of alpha male personality that will have you wanting to drop to your knees in front of him. I would DEFINITELY recommend this book to anyone who's in lust with billionaires!!
This was not what I expected. I really like Brett, Spencer and Alisha's characters. Knowing that someone was going to be hurt so two of them can find love must have been hard to write. My heart hurt for Spencer, and hopes that he us able to find love too. But on a happy note, Brett and Alisha are more alike than either knew. Both are helpful and caring without others knowing that a grand gesture was even made. Neither wanted to hurt anyone and was welling to let their happily ever after go if that's what it took. If anyone deserves to be happy, it's them.
Wow! These Westerly's are one messed up bunch! There should be some pretty amazing stories coming from this divided family as secrets are revealed and healing begins. If you're of fan of Ruth Cardello you will recognize Alessandro and Victor Andrade from prior books. They make an appearance in this one as they share their matchmaking ways with the family matriarch Delinda Westerly. Willing to give their ways a try she offers up early inheritance to any of the siblings that marries and invites the entire family to attend.
Before long Spencer announces he will marry his long time friend Alisha. The eldest of the Westerly siblings Brett fears this isn't a real marriage and wants to stop it before Spencer can do anything crazy. Never does he expect the wave of attraction he feels for the bride to be. This is the last thing he needs with the strain between himself and his brother already at a breaking point but standing by and watching this happen isn't an option either.
All this crazy and that's just the beginning of the story. I highly recommend everyone grab a copy and get the whole story.
I give In the Heir 5 stars for making me feel good. My heart felt heavy when grandma's birthday came and went with not a visit. I loved the dynamics of this family and have a special place in my heart for each of them but most of all for Brett and Alisha. I felt so much joy when finally they got their HEA.
Ruth Cardello is a new author to me and I'm sure I'll read more of her books. I enjoy the twists in her plot, her writing is great, and she used a strong woman to tame her alpha male. Very well done.
When the Westerly family split after the parents divorce, family loyalties became divided. After grandma's birthday, she decided to offer their inheritance to any grandchild who got married and invited the whole family to attend. When his youngest brother got engaged to Alisha, Brett knew he had to intervene. What can he do to stop this wedding?
Brett Westerly, the golden child, heads the family business and works very long hours. He comes from a very broken family so hiding in his office is his way of coping. When his brother announces his engagement, and he meets his fiancée, he wasn't prepared for what hit him. He usually gets what he wants but he now wants what he can't have, her. How will he cope?
Alisha Coventry considered her best friend Rachelle and her brother Spencer as the family she never had. She had no problem becoming Spencer's fake fiancée to help him get his inheritance. Then she met his brother Brett and the chemistry between them was undeniable. She wanted to help mend this family but is falling for the wrong sibling. Can she stop herself before she does something that breaks this family further apart?
In the Heir is a contemporary novel with a HEA. This is just the beginning for the Westerly family. It's about an alpha male and the strong woman who can tame him. Includes lots of dynamic characters that only enhance the story.
Not sure what to say about this book except that, I was swept away by this story and taken on a wonderful ride of emotions. Brett Westerly is a billionaire without a life, work and success is all that concern him. Alisha Coventry is a strong, independent women who doesn't take any bull from anyone. These two definitely see life differently but are able to open one anothers eyes to all the possibilities that life can have. This story is entrancing, sexy and filled with heart! I LOVED it!
I received an advanced review copy from the publisher via Netgalley for a honest and fair review.
Their back!! It worked before so why not try again? Premise was good but delivery and characters could have been better.
Everyone expect the main two characters (and Delinda) were horrible and selfish people. So much, that I really don't care for them to find their HEAs.
And the story is VERY wordy!!!! I'm a huge fan of dialogue and found it lacking here. Strip all the "in thought" moments, make Spencer a little more considerate, have Rachelle not be all about her, and give Stephanie a backbone. And throw in some island time, and you'd have a hit here.
I hate to give this such a low rating for a new to me author but it really was simply just okay and according to Goodreads that's 2 stars.
The story is about a wealthy family who's grandmother decides that since no one really cares about her, she'll make them care about her money. She comes up with this stipulation that if her grandkids what their inheritance money, they have to marry and she has to be invited to the wedding.
Spencer and Alisha have always been close friends but they decide to get fake engaged and then married for real with the intention of getting divorced after 6 months in order to get the money. Brett, who is the outcast but we'll off sibling decides that the stipulation is ridiculous and plans to make the grandmother rescind the stipulation because he's always been the one to help his siblings behind the scenes when they needed it; anonymously.
What Brett didn't count on however was his attraction to Alisha and her attraction to him. So now she ends up essentially caught up in family drama where she's making sacrifices left and right to keep them all happy cause they have always been family to her when her mom and abusive dad were not.
I listened to this on audio and it's probably a combination of the narrator and the actual story. Alisha started out as a strong character. She wasnt afraid to stick up for Spencer in front of his family and she also supported their mom Stephanie and Spencer's sister Rochelle who happened to be her best friend. However when secrets started to be revealed Alisha all of sudden became the bad guy and everyone except Brett started treating her with so much disrespect and it really irked that she just let them.
Then as her relationship with Brett was growing in the aftermath of Spencer drama, she still wouldn't let herself be happy even though literally everyone was telling her what to do. It was like the strong woman completely disintegrated and I didn't understand why. Also the chemistry between Brett and Alisha seemed completely forced and mechanical; not natural especially when they went from hell no to marriage to omg I love you let's get married now.
Close to the end I decided I really didn't care for this fictional family. I was happy for Alisha and Brett but I'm not really interested to see how the other siblings find their true loves or whatever especially since grandma has decided to play matchmaker.
This was a pretty good read. Brett Westerly is his father’s golden child, but it’s come at a cost. As head of the family corporation, he throws himself into his work—hiding in his office is easier than confronting the reality of his broken family. When his grandmother Delinda Westerly offers an early inheritance to any grandchild who marries and invites the entire family to the wedding. Brett’s brother Spencer rashly gets engaged, and Brett knows it’s his duty to intervene. But he never imagined the unwelcome desire Spencer’s fiery fiancée would spark in him. Now the man who’s used to getting everything he could want has met the one woman he can’t have. Alisha Coventry considered Spencer and his sister Rachelle the family she doesn't have and she will do anything to help Spencer and he needs a wife. I really liked this book this was my first time reading this author. The Westerly family was divided when their parents divorced and Spencer and his sister grew up with their mother. When Alisha meets his older brother Bret sparks fly and she has doubts about going through with the wedding. This book was full of family drama and secrets. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Alisha agrees to marry her friend, Spencer, to help him get his inheritance early so he can fund his brilliant startup. When she meets his somewhat estranged, highly successful, older brother, Brett, sparks fly. It isn't just the engagement to Spencer that keeps her from investigating that spark with Brett. Alisha's loyalty to Spencer's family adds an element of complication and she refuses to jeopardize her relationship with them all, regardless of her potential happiness. So, it is up to Brett to pursue her.
This was a nice romance. I liked that the characters didn't immediately get together and actually tried to fight their attraction in consideration of the other family members. A good love story doesn't end with the MCs apart, does it? Nope! Our MCs are able to convince everyone to let them be together, and we get the HEA we want.
As soon as I read the synopsis for this book, I just knew it had to be like all the rest of the billionaire/alpha/heir books out there. I mean, siblings desperate to marry to receive an inheritance to become wealthy? Could a plot be more obvious?
I could not have been more wrong! The entirety of my expectations played out within the first 30ish pages to literally prove me wrong.
This book was about so much more. It was about love and loss. It was about fitting in and the family you are born with vs the family you choose. It was about crossing that line between who you show to the public vs who you allow yourself to be inside.
The author is wickedly insightful for what I thought was going to be a quick vacation guilty pleasure. Don’t get me wrong - it was still an easy read and I couldn’t put it down! But this book had a lot more substance than I was expecting.
