The Sky Drifter is a large space ship making its way through the vast galaxy. On board the Sky Drifter, the residences are named by number and have established their own town, school, and community. The Sky Drifter is home to many different species that coexist, including Seven, the only human on the ship. Seven and the rest of the younger passengers attend The Academy, the ship’s school that teaches everything from cooking to math to strategy.
Seven spends his days attending classes, hanging out with Iris and Pi, and playing Sphere (one on one dodge ball on steroids). He is content with his life until he notices another human like himself. He looks for the girl while his two best friends think he’s crazy. What follows is a series of events that makes Seven realize that not everything is as it seems.
I haven’t read a really good sci-fi in a while, so this one was really satisfying. It has space exploration, variety of characters, and good ole classic high school issues.
The book gives a flash of the future at the beginning and I found it very confusing as I started to read the book. The opening scene is action packed and leads my mind thinking about the possibilities of how the book will build up to that. The majority of the novel is the reader following Seven as he deals with the norms of high school. For being almost uneventful, I actually enjoyed it. And then we have the nice surprise of an action packed ending that I didn’t see coming! I’m definitely hoping for a sequel!
The Sky Drifter by Paris Singer receives 3.5 stars.
Thank you to Book Gobbler for sending my a free ebook in exchange for a review.
First off, I would like to say that this book got me out of my ever-loving reading slump.
Second off, I cannot believe how mind blown I was when I was reading and when I finished reading it.
Third off, I think this novel needs more exposure.
Now, let’s move on to my review of this! :D
The Sky Drifter is this academy where the best students of every kind of creature in the universe are studying. The setting build up is just so good that it made me want to go there and study! I think if I study there, I would not be always saying that I am stu-DYING. I mean seriously, that academy is such a wow. It’s an ultimate dream school with the ultimate dream dormitories and dream cafeteria. High technology at its finest.
Then there’s Seven. He’s my new book boyfriend. Here’s why: He is just a simple (cute) guy, but he is so good in Sphere (a sports) and in Strategy. Who would not like a guy who is good both at sports and strategy?
At first, I thought that the story was slow-paced and just normal, but then the lady wearing a red coat came and made everything mind-blowing! It’s like I experienced what Seven experienced. Normal life at first, then confusing and so fast-paced the next. It was one hell of an adventure. Everything was just unexpected and heartbreaking and I love it.
The Sky Drifter is a roller coaster read. Starts slowly, lures you in, then BAM! You’re caught off guard. It also seems like the next Harry Potter to me. ;)
I highly recommend this to those who love science fiction, to those who want something new and crazy and for fans of mind blowing novels.

I'm not a huge Sci fi fan, so maybe not my favorite book, but I did enjoy it. The mystery of why what was happening, was happening (spoiler free zone here) kept me interested until the end, and I did not see that coming. The book was really well written, and quite successful in drawing the reader in. I'd definitely recommend it to other sci fi readers :)
The concept of an entire spaceship dedicated to schooling is intriguing and I loved the variety of species present in the student population. The beings are a sheer imagination trip. I did find some elements of the setting odd, such as the clay buildings used in the town. It created a strange image of a rudimentary settlement nestled beneath the dome of a roving deep spaceship. But, perhaps Singer intended the reader to see the dissonance in these smaller details.
Seven is a likeable and balanced character, for the most part. There were times when I found him annoying, but this was mainly during a large sports event where he was being a fool with no sense of self-preservation. Pi and Iris are good sidekicks and complement Seven well while Ava is fun. One comes across as a slightly stereotypical bully although the ending adds layers of complexity to the rivalry between him and Seven.
Although the basic premise for the plot is easy to identify, the way events play out is interesting. I would’ve liked a few more surprises before the revelations leading up to the denouement but enjoyed reading The Sky Drifter regardless. Singer’s descriptions are as vivid as the strange and wondrous places featured in this novel.
The Sky Drifter by Paris Singer is a super fun young adult sci-fi about a student named Seven who’s just trying to make it through class like any other normal teen. Except he lives a aboard a space craft in an academy that houses the best minds in the universe. Equipped with an astute mind and a gift for strategy, Seven starts to notice strange things happening and particularly a girl in a red coat who always seems to be associated with it. The more he tries to learn about her, the more that life as he knows it begins to abruptly change. Gone are the days of milkshakes after class with his two best friends, Pi and Iris. The ante is upped in the intergalactic Sphere matches and the quippy verbal sparring with his arch-nemesis, One, start to turn into real threats. But nothing could have prepared Seven (or the reader) for what he discovers from the girl in the red coat.
I loved the world that was built in The Sky Drifter and the wildly imagined alien races along with each of their quirks and characteristics. The Academy on the Sky Drifter is reminiscent of a Hogwarts school yet totally different and set in space. So instead of crazy wizard teachers, you’ve got aliens professors with personality and instead of Quidditch, our main hero, Seven, has the sport Sphere-a cage match type event- in which he can challenge his enemy, One. I loved the dynamic, supporting characters of Pi and Iris, even Ava, the sassy artificial intelligence bot that is supposed to help Seven out but is comedically lazy. And talk about a plot twist and cliff hanger! Easily, this book earned five stars across the board from me and Paris Singer earned a fan! I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
First, let’s talk about the concept, because the concept of The Sky Drifter is amazeballs! Elite academy of space? Check. Lessons on planets and species throughout the universe? Check. And mystery girl in red? Check check check.
Seven, our protagonist, is one lucky guy. He has his best friends, spending his day acing Strategies class, plays Sphere, and enjoy life as a student in the exclusive academy. The only problem is his daily encounter with a bully who seems to just pick on him. His life is as peaceful as any student from the Sky Drifter, until he saw a girl. He started seeing strange things, and while looking for clues of what he saw, Seven slowly uncovered the dangerous truth about his past and the infamous Sky Drifter.
The book is a great combo of action and intriguing plot. The world-building is awesome, with different space species and planets. Seven’s characteristic is definitely likable, and I absolutely adore getting to know Paris Singer’s world through his eyes. And come on, the fact that his name is a number brings back a lot of pleasant memories (Four hmm…) ;)
The only problem I have with The Sky Drifter is the writing. The book would be much better if there is another round of editing. The sentences have a lot of details, but somehow I feel like that are quite unconnected. That doesn’t affect how gripping the plot is, but it sure somewhat lower my enjoyment for this book.
Overall, The Sky Drifter is an enjoyable read. I would love to recommend this book to any of my nephews, they would definitely go crazy with excitement! Fan of Sci-fi, you will love this adventure by Paris Singer.
4.5 of 5 Stars. - I received a review copy of this book in exchange for a review and stop in a blog tour.
This book starts off at quite a fast pace. Seven is a very unique name and it fits the style of the writing and the plot. Iris and Pi are cool characters, friends to the main protagonist. The way the author writes is so fluid. The connections between scenes were so well knit together; the flow of the writing is fantastic! Characters introduced appropriately, storyline is captivating, but without becoming overwhelming. This book is full of Sci-Fi elements, I might think it feels a bit dystopian as well. With all the technology that is woven into play. Its a great story, one that I am determined to re-read.
The Sky Drifter is an amazing story; my only regret is that I kept being pulled away from it while reading and I kept losing my place :D The fact that the author's first language is not English is inspiring. The book is well written and well played out. If he publishes more books, I will most definitely be keeping an eye out for them.

Guaranteed to leave you at the edge of your seat, The Sky Drifter is full of suspense, intrigue, plot twists, and action. I read most of it in one sitting and was not able to put it down!
Seven is an interesting character as he believes he is seeing a mysterious girl, yet no one believes him. He keeps seeing her and tries to figure out why exactly she is around. I don't want to give anything away, but each chapter is definitely full of suspense as you want to know what exactly is going on.
The characters are really interesting and are definitely not stereotypical sci fi characters. I'm glad for a bit of change as I have run into a few books that felt like cookie-cutter characters. Singer's characters are dynamic and interesting.
I give this book a 4/5 as there are some areas that could have been flushed out, but it was a very entertaining tale. I hope to read more from this author and glad to of had the opportunity to review this novel.
I loved this story , and to be honest I can't wait for the next book! The fact that he leaves you with a cliffhanger at the end is awesome! Congratulations Mr.Singer you have a new fan!
Seven is a student in the Sky Drifter that travels all over the galaxies, he is also a sphere player. He has his own very Personal assistant named Ava who happens to be lazy and loves playing video games ( a child's dream come true) . He also has two amazing friends named Iris and Pi. One day he notices something odd. Everyone is not reacting the same way, a mysterious girl is following and disappears ! Seven's world is turning upside down and wishes it would all go back. He questions everything and everyone. Why is this happening to him ?! He is also the only Simian in the Sky Drifter but is he really? When he discovers so many secrets, his reality wasn't what he expected and what comes is so real it's overwhelming!!
Reminiscent of Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, The Sky Drifter was an excellent read. I originally was going to read it in between another book I'm on and found that I just couldn't put it down. I do have some lingering questions but overal the story was nicely put together and I enjoyed it imensely. I'm hoping that perhaps the author intends to write a few sequels?
