This book picks up the lives of Charles Barnett and Philip d'Autremont where Trial left off. They're back home in Atlanta settling down into their daily routine until one morning while jogging through Piedmont Park, two shots ring out.
Philip has an injury to his arm, and Charles is hospitalized with a shattered leg bone. Because Charles won't be able to climb stairs for many weeks, they move in with his grandmother for their recovery because her mansion in Buckhead has an elevator.
There are two more attacks on them, one unsuccessful, and another thwarted before it happens. A pair of nursing students, John and Joe are engaged to help with their recovery, and become part of their circle of friends.
The bad guys (followers of the downfallen homophobic preacher) are eventually caught and jailed.
Charles and Philip think about their posterity, and engage surrogate mothers to achieve that goal. They settle down in Buckhead to raise a family, and all is eventually well.
This book leaves the reader wanting to know more about the lives of these characters, and one can only hope that book three will do exactly that.
