Put aside by his former mate for his inability to bear children, Omega Lane retreated into the Alaskan interior and has lived there alone ever since. He's a lone wolf and a hermit, not part of the world and no longer wanting to be.
Until Carey comes across his path. Younger, and also an Omega, Carey's on the run from an Alpha who won't take no for an answer. Though Carey thinks at first he might be pregnant, he soon learns that isn't the case -- instead, he's going into heat.
Carey doesn't want or trust an Alpha anywhere near him. Lane, who has kept his preference for Omegas hidden for years, is the only one Carey chooses to trust. But can Lane let Carey into his life after living alone for so long?
And what if Carey decides he doesn't want to leave?
Will Okati is made of many things: imagination, coffee, stray cat hairs, daydreams, more coffee, kitchen experimentation, a passion for winter weather, a little more coffee, a whole lot of flowering plants and a lifelong love of storytelling.
A friend and I were having a conversation the other day regarding how much we both enjoy the varied world building authors create particularly within the paranormal shifters genre and the mpreg trope. Sometimes I really want to read something very different, but other times I want to come back to a well loved, well written series where I can curl up with the most recent release and just revel in the familiar. Don't get me wrong, Willa Okati has created a fascinating world in her 'Omega Wolves' series and I always love visiting it.
Like 'Tooth and Claw' had two main characters who were alphas in body but both had omega hearts, I had a sneaking suspicion that 'Chapter and Verse' might be somewhat similar. Lane lives alone in the wilderness of Alaska and he's made a life there for five years. Lane was thrown out of his pack by his mate when it turned out that he was barren. I couldn't begin to imagine his pain. He meets Carey who is running from an abusive alpha and even though Lane only wants to be left alone, somehow Carey ends up back at his place.
Lane is tall and from a distance could pass as an alpha. The fact he's always preferred omegas is a secret he has kept to himself. Carey has always thought there was something wrong with him because he's not attracted to alphas. They're too loud, rough, noisy, and they frighten him. On their return trip to Lane's cabin they both realize that Carey isn't pregnant, he's in heat. Oh boy. I thought it was rather ingenious of Lane - although not unexpected since he still has heats - in the manner in which he cared for Carey.
What are they to do? Carey can't stay there. It's bad enough one omega lives by himself and homesteads, and Lane is fairly sure the alphas in the area leave him alone because he's older and his pheromone scent isn't strong enough for them to worry with. But they would come to investigate Carey, plus by their laws it's illegal for two omegas to live together with no alpha to care for them. It doesn't matter anyway when Carey's uncle and the alpha chasing him track Carey to Lane's cabin.
I absolutely fell in love with both of these men. Whoever says that omegas are weak has never met Lane. I loved the ending - it was perfect. In fact, Willa, the whole story was beautiful, sweet, and very romantic. Thank you.

I don't know how to explain how much I love this book, it's one of the first omega by omega I've read, I loved it a lot, unfortunately I think it's very short, and that might seem like there's little development, I'd like to see what I've seen more extensively, without a doubt one of my favorites of the saga
These are short stories and I love the way the author is able to tell a complete tale with so few words. She’s very adept at giving us just the right glimpses of the here and now mixed with a bit about the past to show an entire picture of what’s going on.
In this case, we have two Omegas at the opposite ends of the spectrum. One is infertile and bitter about it, one might be pregnant and in agony about that. When they first meet, Lane thinks only to protect Carey for the moment and then help him on his way – but Carey has a different idea.
What I loved about this is that the story highlights the fact that love can happen in a lot of different ways and that, once we look outside our preconceived notions, there are so many more options available to us. The author also doesn’t give us a “magical” cure at the end of the story. She doesn’t “fix” things – thus making Carey and Lane fit back into the perfect box. Instead, our lovers have to find their own unique path and solve their “problems” a different way than the usual way.
If you’re a fan of the series and the author, you’ll love this. None of the books need to be read in order or at all to enjoy the others. This is a fairly unique shifter story, but with a lot of the traditional shifter elements. Fans of mpreg should find this pretty interesting as well.

In this latest addition to the Omega Wolves series, we get a different pairing than we have seen before. Most of the pairings have been Alpha/Omega, one was Alpha/Alpha. Now with this one we get Omega/Omega. I wasn’t sure how that was going to work, but it did!
Lane is very independent, living on his own in a cabin in the wilds of Alaska. He is near a train stop, and occasionally takes the train in to the closest town to buy staples. One morning while waiting for the train, he sees another shifter coming from the woods, obviously in distress. He agrees to buy a train ticket for the panicked Omega wolf, but that is as far as he can risk getting involved. Lane is in hiding, and can’t take the chance of drawing attention to himself.
Carey is having a bad time…. he’s been forced by his Alpha uncle to mate with another Alpha against his will, and now is on the run, possibly pregnant. He comes across a shifter waiting for a train and begs for help. He’s wanting to get to town so he can confirm if he’s pregnant or not then figure out what to do from there. The other wolf helps him get to town and they part ways. Things don’t go well for Carey and he ends up needing help again. This gets us to the heart of the story and where I’ll stop telling you what happens!
So I liked this story, and these two characters. Carey is sweet and needy, Lane is surprisingly strong for an Omega wolf. The two work out very well as a couple, even though they shouldn’t. There are a couple of sex scenes between them, and Willa gives us a much needed solution to the issue of neither being an Alpha. Then there is a wonderful scene of strength from Lane, proving he has the means to protect himself and Carey.
I’ve not read many books by Willa Okati, just this series and maybe another one or two of her books. I like her writing style with this series, they are almost dreamlike at times. The magic works in a way that makes me not question the male pregnancy issue. Sometimes when I read m-preg books I find myself questioning how that works, how they got pregnant, how the baby is going to get out, etc… Willa doesn’t provide much in the way of hows and whys, but I was ok with that with this series, due to the fantasy/dream feeling of them. That probably doesn’t make any sense, but it is what I felt. I just accepted it as magic and enjoyed the stories. The sex scenes are very well done, smoking hot when the various Omegas are in heat, tender when they aren’t so focused on fucking.
Like the other books in this series, there is limited world building, and we don’t get much in the way of background for the characters. All of that is ok, I liked stories like this when I can binge read a whole series in a few days. They are like candy, easily consumed and tasty. I like longer, deeper stories at times, then shorter books like these at times too. There is a pattern that all of the books in the series follow, this one is different with the two Omegas, but still, they are pretty similar. If you have read the others you’ll like this one. If not, you could read this one as a standalone story. There aren’t any characters from previous books. Give it a try, if you like it, go get the others in the series, they are all enjoyable.
The alternate universe in which this series is set, is changing. Not all Omegas prefer to mate with Alphas. And any man can empregnate Omegas, not necessarily have to be Alphas.
While it's all logical, for me it's like a deviation from previous books.
Time to abandon ship. I read it solely for the sake of the smut, really.
