CL Claridge uses general parenting skills with little Buddhist philology to create a commercial parenting programme.

The book jumps in places and is not logically set out, for examples Dharma and Buddhism are mentioned early on in the book but are not really explained until later on in the book. The programme is too board in age range (0-12ish years old) to be of any real use. Also, there is a significant emphasis on communication skills but the author doesn’t explain what to do if your child has communication issues.

The book mentions that the traditional reward-punishment model is wrong but uses something similar in her programme, the only difference I can tell is the punishment is first discussed with the child before it is implemented.

Having said all that, there were a few good points in the book including the reminder to practice compassion in parenting.

Good advices with some examples, but a big chunk of the book is just philosophical thoughts about why we need to be compassionate and understanding and connect with our internal-self.
