Should be a thrilling, fascinating true-life story but poorly-written and padded out with too much unconvincing 'human interest' fluff. Gets an extra star for a) brevity and b) a compellingly apocalyptic description of the 1811 New Madrid earthquake and its aftermath

This is quite an adventure book but it is also nonfiction. It is a worthwhile read not only about the first steamboat to journey down the Mississippi but also about a comet and a large earthquake.
