“I bet I could make you fall in love in a week.” The offer seals Scott Russell’s fate.

After a bitter betrayal and an ugly divorce, the detective is forced to make a fresh start. His new position in a quiet suburb should be a walk in the park compared to his years in Chicago. However, he quickly learns that small towns come with their own issues, with citizens who are slow to forgive and even slower to forget.

The town’s wealthy and reclusive author is a mystery to most. To Scott, she’s just another nameless girl on the train. With a reserved smile and shoes worth more than a month’s rent, his only concern is that she might be out of his league.

“I can give you seven days, but not my heart.” The acceptance is one more in a string of lies.

Celeste Smythe doesn’t believe in love at first sight. Relationships take time and sometimes even that isn’t enough. Not with the secrets she harbors in her guarded heart. Yet fate keeps pushing her toward the handsome and absurdly persistent man, and resisting may be more than she can endure, no matter the risks.

When the week is over, Scott may think he knows her. Celeste may know she loves him. But when the truth is revealed about the town’s most talked about citizen, he may discover he’s put much more than his heart on the line.

I knew this book would end with a cliffhanger so I firmly decided to wait until all the books are out. The last time I read a book with a huge cliffhanger in the end I swore to myself I’d never do it again. My plan worked for about ten seconds, until I got another brilliant idea: to sneak a peek inside just to get the feel of it.

Oops...

In retrospect, that was the worst decision ever. Because once you start reading this book, you can't stop. Believe me, I tried. And failed.

And so, here I am now, pissed at myself. Basically, I know nothing after reaching the end. There's just one big WTF in my head.

With its plot full of twists, turns and secrets, good writing, complex characters and smoking hot chemistry between them I easily fell into the story and identified with the characters.

It felt like watching a good ol’ romantic thriller. The storyline is engaging and intriguing. It kept me guessing, speculating and hypothesizing the whole way through. Every time I thought I finally figured it out, all my theories were smashed to smithereens.

The atmosphere of the book is suspenseful, enigmatic and mysterious. It kept me on the edge of the seat filling me with adrenaline page after page. But it left me hanging in the end. I need answers. Like yesterday.

I know the waiting will be hard but there is no alternative. I just hope it will be worth it.

⦁ Romantic suspense
⦁ Dual POVs, first person

A man and a woman meet on a train. They share a mutual attraction for one another and strike up a friendly conversation, but as they are expected to separate, the man catches up to the woman in the subway and prevents her from being mugged. She runs off in fear, leaving the man stunned and confused about her odd behavior. Days later, this same man begins to receive multiple large gifts, including a large financial contribution, but he doesn't know who the sender is. This story unfolds from there, but the twist towards the end of the story leads to an awesome cliffhanger!

I really liked this story, loved the ending, and enjoyed the more mature tone of this story. What would've propelled this book even higher for me was if the two lead characters had a stronger connection. They had great chemistry, but I didn't fall in love with either of them. While I liked this author's writing style, there was just something more missing from this story (for me) that I couldn't quite pinpoint.

First time reading this author's work and I look forward to reading the next book in this series! Enjoyed!

Jenni Moen is the master of suspense and jaw dropping twist for sure! Black Widow is yet another addition to Mrs Moen’s world of alluring romantic suspense, while it will keep you on your toes, you do get to enjoy a slow and sensual story.

Scott Russell, a head strong detective from Chicago is dubbed a hero after he solved an abduction case which went cold for years. This acquired hero status doesn’t seem to brighten his mood when he still struggles with his past, more particularly the little girl in his past who haunts him day in and day out. Scott is reckless when it comes to solving any case but with this one he went a little overboard, which ended up with him being transferred to a different precinct.

Celeste Smythe is the name spoken in whispers, who is stared at every time she sets foot outside. She is single, rich and a successful author living a simple reclusive life. Plagued by her past, Celeste can’t seem to have a normal life with a controlling father and judgemental people around who doesn’t let her forget her past. When least expected Celeste finds her normalcy again with Scott on the train during a stressful night.

Drowned by the thoughts of recent events Scott finally looks forward to having a fresh start away from Chicago but he finds himself intrigued by the girl on the train whom he ends up saving, twice! Scott is not the kind to usually pursue a woman but this one piqued his curiosity, she is not easily wooed unlike anyone he met. Call it a coincidence or a sign from the universe, their path crosses again. Persistent as he is, he lays out a proposition of spending a week together before she could disappear again.

Celeste gives in, I mean how can she resist the blue eyed, hot as hell cop but on her terms- after seven days of their time together they have to walk away with no strings attached. It looked like a great deal, one where she gets a semblance of a normal life and go back to her solitude, hoping he never finds out. Scott is trying hard not to fall for her but everything about her fascinates him- she is an enigma, a riddle he likes to solve, the fixer in him wants to unravel every bit of her story.

He thinks he could make her fall for him under a week but what happens when he finds out about the truth she guarded so well? The more he gets involved with her, the more mysterious things happen to him. Are those things connected to her? Is she really what people say she is?

Well I’m asking the same questions because we got to wait three months for the next book!!
The Horror of waiting…….

With Black Widow, the author lays out a solid foundation for a series filled with mysteries and major cliff hangers. The entire story takes place under a week, while it is not fast paced the author excels at delivering a page turner with complex characters and layered story line. When you think, you’ve figured it all out she throws yet another twist leaving your mouth dry and heart palpitating.

A captivating story, endearing characters, sizzling chemistry, tangled mystery and an eloquent writing is what makes this a great read!

I chose to read Black Widow by Jenni Moen as part of a group reading challenge (a book with a spider on the cover). I gave this romantic suspense novel 3 stars

The developing romantic relationship of the two main characters, Scott Russell and Celeste Smythe is at the center of the story. He is the heroic, protective, tall dark and handsome cop with anger issues. She is the beautiful wounded widow—broken, unstable, and in need of rescuing. (Or, is she?) The conflict between them arises from their individually secretive pasts. While they are both likable enough, the missing psychological/emotional pieces they keep from each other and from the reader make it difficult to know them enough to really connect.

I suppose the writing itself is proficient for the genre. But, many of the elements that make me really fall in love with a book are missing here. The time and place of the novel are too generic for my liking. Also, I usually relish reading suspense literature because I enjoy forming theories, re-evaluating assumptions, searching for answers to questions, etc. Sadly, this book left me dejected. The series of events move the story forward, but the character development is painfully slow. The two-character/first-person narrative (chapters shifting between “Him” and “Her”) could have been effective for creating dramatic irony, but the secrecy and hidden pasts of the narrators create as much misperception for the reader as the characters do one another.

I wish I had read the reviews before I started reading Black Widow. I may have decided not to invest in this, Book 1 of a three-part series, because the cliffhanger at the end was an abrupt, maddening, betrayal of the tacit reader/writer contract, and the next book in the series isn’t available for months.

After solving a cold case which evidently he should have been celebrating, it, in fact, ruined his marriage and his career. Scott Russell has lost everything and now he is politely relocated to Highland Park - a wealthy subdivision with low crime rate. On his first train ride to his new place, he meets a mysterious woman on the train. There is something capturing about her, and after a train ride of talking, Scott proposes that he can make her fall in love with him after a week. Seems like a challenge and she accepts, he doesn't know her name but when they are due to go their separate ways she is involved in a mugging which Scott steps up to help. She is edgy and asks for no police involvement. This flashes warning bells for Scott as he is a Detective. Soon strange things start to happen for Scott as it is like he is being thrown money, bribed - he just doesn't know what for and who it is from as of yet. The book continues, and we finally get a name for the female - Celeste Smythe. We learn her side of the story about how she is wealthy and that she is reclusive. We also discover her hesitancy towards law enforcement as her husband died and Celeste nicknamed the Black Widow. What will happen though when Scott gets involved more romantically with Celeste, and it looks like someone is trying to kill her or are they trying to get rid of him? Find out in Black Widow and OMG that ending in the police station with Scott looking at cold cases, it has now made me want to read Book #2 when it's released. Fair warning thy readers, Black Widow does end on a major cliffhanger.

It’s been over a week since I finished this book and I’m still having a hard time putting down my thoughts about it. Maybe I’m trying too hard. Whatever the reason, the best way for me to get my thoughts down is point form so here goes.

Book Cover and Synopsis - Hot, sexy and very intriguing. I purchased the book after reading a “sample” as it seemed really interesting.

Actual Plot - Not hot or sexy and was in fact very boring. I wish I had never purchased the book.

Unlike many others, I thought BW was boring and long-winded. Forget the main plot, the author fills the pages with a string of mini-dramas as she tries to make the story suspenseful and mysterious. Unfortunately, nothing really becomes of them as they’re only really touched upon. Perhaps in the next novel she’ll go back to them but for now the feeling of intrigue and suspense the author tries to create with these mini-dramas did nothing for me.

The main story. We see this supposed romance between the H/h come to life throughout but the real nitty gritty of the story doesn’t really start until the very last few pages and then of course it ends with a cliff-hanger. Pretty much the whole book was about the hero, Scott, and heroine, Celeste, and their relationship or whatever the hell they call it. With the hot and cold and back and forth, trust me when I say there were times I just wanted to chuck it. I wish I’d listen to my gut instinct.

Scott. With him being divorced and forced to move away from the people he works with and cares for, he wants to start a new life, a new chapter but, unfortunately, he gets more than he bargained for. He’s a detective and right from the start we learn that he’s being transferred to another location with respect to his last case. Nothing is actually mentioned why he’s being transferred but it’s easy to figure out. Being a detective you’d think he’d have a case to work on when he goes to the new station, but no, he doesn’t go to the station to meet the other detectives and receive his first assignment until the very end. I’d ask why he doesn’t but considering the story ended on a cliff-hanger, it’s easy to figure out. For a very good detective who can pretty much tell who the culprit is by looking into their eyes, he can’t figure out Celeste as she turns him topsy turvy all throughout. She’s got him wrapped around her finger. It’s obvious that instead of listening to his gut instinct he’s letting his dick lead the way. Did I like him? I went back and forth on this one.

Celeste. I didn’t know what to make of her at first. When we’re first introduced to her, she comes across as shy, a quiet person, soft-spoken, someone who seems so fragile. Later her entire personality changes. I don’t believe she has a split personality (but I could be wrong). Her behaviour keeps changing with her moods and all the alcohol she drinks. At one point, she’s a total flirt wearing sexy clothes and trying to pick up random men; later becomes paranoid; and even childlike. She goes back and forth with her many moods that by the end of the novel I couldn’t give two shits about her. By the way, the reason everyone dislikes her so much is just ridiculous. I mean, seriously? Rolling my eyes again.

So, what did I think? I really tried to like it but in the end, I wasn’t impressed with it one bit and I highly doubt I’ll read the next book in the series. Like always, don’t let my review determine if you should read it or not. That’s up to you.

Scott & Celeste met by chance and there was an instant attraction there. Scott offered Celeste a week of unforgettable pleasure and she agreed (I probably would have as well). As they embarked on their journey, they realized there is more than just physical chemistry between them, yet the secrets they’re both hiding come back to haunt them. And that is the thing - there can never be happiness when there are so many secrets.

Two people who were not looking for love somehow found it together, but how long could that last? One thing is for sure, their chemistry was intense and had me squirming because I needed some relief!

This was such a unique read for me. It had a bit of mystery, passion, lust, and it was plain out raw! I wasn't sure how it was going to end for them, but I the more I read the more I realized I was on a journey that had many twists and turns! I was left with questions and cannot wait to get my answers!

Be prepared to go on an emotional ride with Scott & Celeste and root for them! ~ Kara, 4.5 Stars

This review of Black Widow by Jenni Moen is for The Sweet Spot Sisterhood Blog. To tell you the truth, I haven't read a book like this in quite a while. It is a romantic suspense and Moen reminded me why I like them so much. Yeah, there is sex, but it isn't erotic or over the top. The title intrigued me. Moen weaves a careful web, only divulging as much information as needed. It reminds me of the Sir Walter Scott quote "Oh what tangled web we weave, when we first practice to decieve!" This fits Black Widow quite well. I give it 4 Stars.

Black Widow is the story of Scott Russell, a Chicago Detective and Celeste Smythe, a woman he rescues on the train. Scott should be in his heighth of glory after solving we real years old cold case, but he isn't. He is leaving Chicago PD for a job in the suburbs, but why? That is what we as a reader have to find out. Celeste is an author but has also been dubbed the Black Widow. Her husband, a professional baseball player died from spider bites. Is this why she has been dubbed the Black Widow? I don't want to give too much away because this book is well worth the read. Moen also has a Facebook group where you can go share your theories. What happened in Chicago that caused Scott to leave Chicago so abruptly? Why is Celeste called the Black Widow? What else are they hiding? I do have to tell you that this book ends in a Cliffhanger with book 2 due in the Spring of 2017.

3.5 star rating

I really did have high hopes that this one would blow me away, and become a favorite series. Sadly, that was not the case. While I enjoyed Jenni Moen’s writing style, I felt mislead by the blurb and the cover. Firstly, the cover is what stopped me to even look at the blurb, and once I read it I wanted to give it a chance. By both, I really thought there would be some huge mystery behind the title, but it just feel flat for me. The whole plot isn’t what I expected and was lacking the “thrill” of a mystery. Maybe I misjudged this book because of the title and the blurb, but I did at least finish and I somewhat liked it. I found myself thinking up crazy scenarios that might happen, but when some of the truth came out, it was not at all what I thought. It wasn’t as “big” or “secretive” as I thought.
Another thing I couldn’t look over is the pace of the book. It dragged out so much and nothing was solved. You get bits and pieces of things that really don’t make much sense, then it ends. I knew there would be a possibility of a cliffhanger because this is book one, but I sort of felt cheated out of a great ending. I know this review seems really negative, but this is my honest opinion. I did like the lead hero, Scott. He’s a bit obsessed with his job and I wish it was clarified a bit more on way that was. I got the “gist” and that’s it. Celeste was hot and cold to me. At times I liked her but then again, she is the ultimate damsel in distress. I felt her character could’ve grown so much in this book, but she didn’t.
I’m really disappointed I didn’t really like this one, as this is usually my go to genre. I’m not sure if I’ll continue this series because I feel like it’ll be the same until the very last book. Maybe I’m wrong, and I hope I am because this book and this series has a lot of potential.

Two people who have a chance meeting decide to spend one week together, that's it... or is it? Twists and turns, oddities and life threatening events unfold after their chance meeting on the train. This book ends on a cliffhanger and is the first book in a series of 3. I'll have chewed my nails off by the time I get my hands on book 2 but I have a feeling it will be well worth it!

I loved everything about this book (except the cliffy at the end, but I digress...). Detective Scott Russell is all sorts of dreamy and authoritative and sexy but still sweet and romantic deep down once you break his protective shell. You like him almost immediately and if you're a "fixer" like myself, you will want to snatch him up and make him your next sexy lab experiment! He is drawn to the ever elusive, Celeste almost straight away.

Celeste is a hot mess contrary to her very "put together" outward appearance. She has demons and a dark past that keep her guarded and isolated. She is instantaneously drawn to Scott (hello!? who wouldn't be?) and she finds herself growing feelings for him; feelings she hasn't had for someone in a very long time. I like Celeste but something about her rubs me the wrong way. I feel like she's up to no good or is keeping secrets even from the reader! I'm intrigued.

These two have a smart, witty banter and crazy sexual chemistry that jumps off the pages and keeps you engaged the whole way through. I was left with theories and questions and heart palpitations but it is completely worth it! I give this book 4.5 stars! Jenni is an expert at delivering smart, suspenseful stories time and time again and Black Widow #1 definitely did NOT disappoint!

Detective Scott Russell is in transit, making an unexpected, and rather unwanted, new start in a new town. Celeste Smythe is very much stuck in the same spot, wishing she could start over somewhere new. Neither is seeking love.
When they happen to meet one night on a train, there's a tentative but instant connection. Willing to take a chance and explore what could be, Scott asks for a week to prove what kind of guy he is. (Oh so dreamy IMO!)
That in itself would make a good romantic plot, BUT there's so much more involved with both of these characters. Secrets. Lies. Murder?
With what has become synonymous with Jenni Moen books, Black Widow has nail-biting twists and wicked turns that will keep you reading and have you guessing until the very end.
This series kicked off with a bang, and I can't wait for more!

Have you ever found that author that just makes you happy dance in your seat the second you find out they've put out a new book? Jenni Moen is one of those authors for me. Black Widow is the first book of the Black Widow Series and it is phenomenal. I feel like giving any details will give too much away and I am not one for spoilers. So I will say this...It is sexy, mysterious and thought provoking. With dynamic characters, you can never quite figure out the motivations behind an action and the twists and turns this story packs in-- make it everything but predictable....Jenni weaves a tale together that will leave you in awe and demanding more. I cannot wait for more from Celeste and Scott!

Black Widow was excellent! A great combination of intrigue and mysteries. Had I known that the book ended in a cliffhanger and the second book isn't due out in the Sring of 2017, I would have waited to read it! Black Widow has great characters, Scott a former detective who is about to embark on a new job and relocate to a new city. One night he meets Celeste on a train and suddenly things in Scott's life change. Celeste is a hard one to figure out, is she a femme fatale, or is she herself a victim, misunderstood with an overbearing father. Both Scott and Celeste have a mountain of mysteries and baggage between them. Black Widow is extremely well written and kept me on the edge of my chair, I love nothing better than solving mysteries! I can't wait until the next book comes out!

Wow, Wow, Wow! Jenni Moen is a new author to me and she did not disappoint!

This is the story of Scott and Celeste who have a chance encounter on the train. Celeste is guarded and is unsure of the attractive stranger who seems to say all the right things. Scott is not shy about his attraction to Celeste and the banter between the two of them is sexy and fun. From that moment on, things will never be the same for either one of them.

Is it a coincidence that strange things start happening to them as they get to know each other?!?! It's clear they're both hiding secrets from their past. Just when you think you have the answers, the plot takes a twist you didn't expect.

The story is a great combination of mysterious, hot chemistry, not predictable and will want you coming back for more! I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Don't miss out!

Black Widow was a really good & mysterious book that I really enjoyed reading. There were a lot of twists and turns, and just when I thought I was figuring something out, NOPE! I got thrown in another direction. It kept me reading on the edge of my seat and I couldn't & didn't want to put it down. This Romantic Thriller did end on a cliffhanger, so now I can't wait to finish on with this story when the next book comes out. This is the 1st Jennie Moen book that I have read and it will definitely keep me coming back for more. I received a complimentary copy and liked it, so when I read it, I voluntarily decided to review it. This review is 100% my own honest opinions about the book. Great Job Jennie!

Black Widow by Jenni Moen is an intriguing romance mystery about a woman named Celeste who has some secrets that she is keeping and a cop named Scott who has his own demons to face and fight. Scott is making the transition to another job after solving a cold case that resulted in a little girl being found and returned home but he went a little too far in achieving the means of getting to the end and his now former partner wants him gone. Scott had a lady friend at his soon to be old precinct but he just didn’t know how to really open up and let her in so as he leaves to move on so things end between them. Scott meets Celeste on the train since his bike is totaled and he now has no means of transportation. He ends up saving Celeste not just once but twice from a guy who at first was showing her unwanted attention on the train and again once she gets off the train. Not long after Scott does this good act strange things start happening for him: new motorcycle to replace the one lost, a better apartment than what he had originally rented, new furniture and much more to be discovered later.
Celeste is a woman haunted by her past. She was married to a famous ball player but he suffered a tragic accident and dies. She’s lived in mourning always under the scrutiny of people who remember who she was once married to and not allowed to forget because of a dress that she wore to her deceased husband’s funeral. Celeste is battling her own demons and it seems they come out a bit more when she has a few drinks in her. But is there more than meets the eye when it comes to her? Scott sees different sides of her as he works to try to get her to fall in love with him but he finds himself falling for her as well.
This story flips back and forth between “him” and “her” so you get to alternate between Scott’s perspective and Celeste’s perspective. It’s not every other chapter that you get the shift. It happens in unexpected ways but it helps keep the story engaging. The mystery is subtle but it’s there and it starts with the gifts that Scott starts receiving after helping rescue Celeste from the guy who would be the mugger. Black Widow is a well done layered story that draws you in with each page that you turn. You see different sides of Celeste and you get a bit of background on Scott concerning him, his ex -wife and why they divorced. There is a lot going on with this story and when it concludes at the last page you are left wanting more. I have to say that I really enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait until the next part in this series. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Well done!

Title: Black Widow (Book 1, Black Widow Series)
Author: Jenni Moen
JBI Rating: 5+

“I bet I could make you fall in love in a week.”

Book Intro:
What do you get when you mix a sexy and confident detective with a mystery woman and a subway train at night? One hell of an adventure. Scott Russell is a police detective and Celeste Smythe, an author. They are both fighting demons that haunt them from their pasts.

Character Strength:
I loved the chemistry between Scott and Celeste. Scott is a good guy and you know this straightaway. Celeste is a mess. I really want to love her too but there's definitely something off about her. She makes me suspicious.

Emotional Value:
This is an awesome read. It's got twists and turns that'll keep you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think you've got something figured out, BAM, you're wrong. Definitely a nail-biter.

Overall Opinion:
Jenni Moen once again blows your mind with her amazing writing. Black Widow is absolutely a five star read. Full of mystery, suspense, and romance. It's written from dual POV’s. Warning, there is a cliffhanger that's going to drive you crazy. I cannot wait for book two. If you haven't already added Black Widow to your TBR you need to. You won't be disappointed.

3.5 Mind-bending stars.

I found this book intriguing. I was hooked after Scott and Celeste's conversation on the train; it was a well-written mysterious and unconventional encounter between complete strangers laced with a tasteful amount of sexual chemistry and allure of what would happen next.

Little did they know their train was about to take a sharp left turn straight into crazy town.

Scott Russell, the deliciously dark and mindful detective with an acute anger issue was my favorite character of the story. As a seasoned detective, Scott had a powerful insight to human behavior and people and their bullshit, including his own.

However, Scott's character is proof that when our judgement is clouded by emotion, by our own perceptions of what we believe to be true, we can be completely oblivious to the giant, bright red flags of betrayal right in front of us.

Celeste's character was, 'meh', very and hot and cold; I liked her and then I didn't. I felt that the backstory behind the notorious grieving widow was weak and frankly a bit laughable but something I was able to overlook.

Celeste is beautiful, wealthy and seriously troubled, and not very likeable at times. The process of reading in-between the lines of her drunken drugged up behavior was daunting and at times downright frustrating. Everyone seems to identify the crazy in Celeste, even Scott has moments of clarity, but he is deep in the mystery that is Celeste, who reminds him of her.

Scott is a bit stubborn and careless in his resolve to piece together the puzzle of Celeste's past while at the same time finding redemption for the one mystery he was unable to completely solve.

But the great thing about a fling with a woman who is a bit off her rocker is the mind blowing passionate sex. It is short, not-so-sweet and does not disappoint.

Detective Scott Russell was the driving force of this book with his protective, selfless-do-gooder-fixer-upper-personality, even though his personal life is complete and utter shit. His fate is the only reason I would continue on with the next book.

***ARC Provided by the Author for an Honest Review***

There are so many words I can use to describe Black Widow by Jenni Moen, but I can’t decide which one has that perfect fit. There is a WoW factor that I wasn’t expecting, and the plot twists had me stunned.

Scott Russell is a Detective who moves to a quieter suburb, escaping a life he would rather forget. When he meets a quiet girl on the train he becomes attracted instantly. It’s not like he’s looking for anything to happen between them, but his connection with Celeste Smythe is too strong to deny.

His Mystery Girl also harbors secrets and every move they make creates a series of strange events that has you struggling to put this book down.

The story line surrounding Celeste and Scott is a gripping one, that leaves you stunned when it ends. You will be stalking Jenni just to find out when book two is available so that you can get more of what you have just read.

There is no predictability to this novel and I absolutely loved that! There is nothing better than starting a story only to discover the author has anticipated your every move as a reader, and counteracted what you expected, to throw in a twist, or a turn to throw you off guard.

Fantastic read, Fantastic author.

This is a five star read for me.

Black Widow by Jenni Moen
A romance mystery that will keep you intrigued. A cop named Scott who has his own demons to fight. A woman named Celeste who has a past shrouded in mystery. They meet on a train and Scott becomes the Hero, not once but twice in one night. What do you do when someone other than yourself seems to be controlling your life? All of a sudden Scott has a new bike, new apartment and plenty of money and he has no idea who the contributor is. The story allows us to learn more about each character. With each page, the enigma continues. He asked for 7 days, she accepted 7 days but refuses to give her heart. The Black Widow has more secrets and Scott has just taken a step back, the paradox has left him with more unanswered questions and a feeling of anger. Can he forgive her and when she finds out his secrets, can she forgive him? This was an easy book to read with regards to the dictation. The characters were highly complex and yet intriguing. I found myself engrossed and eager to find out what the hidden secrets were. Be warned, this one leaves you on a cliff hanger with many questions left unanswered. My mind is still spinning trying to solve the mysteries but alas I will have to wait for Ms Moen to write book 2.

WOW. Not sure how to describe this story. There are so many twists and subplots going on that I’m not sure who is who. I realize that is the in intention, but when this part of the book ends we have so many unanswered questions!

So we know that Scott Russel is a detective who has changed jobs due to some events which occurred at his old job. We also know that he meets a mysterious woman on the train and saves her from being mugged. That is about all that we know for sure. OK, not really, but seriously just when you think you have Celeste figured out you get another crumb of her back story and question everything you have learned so far. Plus the mysterious gifts that Scott gets and the threat to Celeste’s life and the main question is who has more secrets, Scott or Celeste.

I really enjoyed the story and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way, but dang it, I forgot it was book 1 in a series and we are left with a thousand unanswered questions. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Jenni Moen has really written a brilliant book with ‘Black Widow’, it gives you passion, mystery, sex, longing, intrigue and a rollercoaster of emotions as you find yourself rooting for Scott and Celeste.

After a chance meeting on a train Scott finds himself immediately drawn to Celeste, he finds her intriguing and can’t quite figure her out. When their paths cross again he makes her an offer that quite frankly a doubt any female would refuse and that is to spend a week with him. She accepts but on the proviso that when they part ways at the end of the week that is it, no strings attached.

Great plan but of course one week is more than enough time for feelings to be involved and for things to unravel. Both Scott and Celeste have secrets that they are hiding and worlds they are escaping from in one way or another. The chemistry and heat between them was scorching and will definitely get you heated too.

This was a book full of surprises that you could no way predict what was going to happen next. I am left with questions I want answers to and now! Unfortunately I will have to wait for the next book and I will be grabbing that as soon as I can. Brilliant read that I fully recommend reading.

This is an intriguing book the blurb caught my eye and I knew I need to read it.
It's a romance with a difference between Celeste and Scott, usually one character is a mystery with the other trying to unravel their secrets but in this case both of them have secrets both of them are hiding something.
Scott has left Chicago under something of a cloud but we as the reader don't know what we can guess but will we be correct in our assumptions. He meets Celeste on a train and comes to her rescue but she runs a away.
I loved the banter between the two on the train it was funny, witty and kind of sexy. Scott seems to have a bit of a hero complex but why what made him like this? Celeste aka The Black Widow at first seemed cold and unemotional but when you get to know more about her you realise she's not, but how did she get that nickname, what is she hiding?
The author has done a good job with the mystery elements in this book, I sure there are clues I've missed along the way and that ending I knew something was coming but I didn't guess that. Can wait for book 2.

Very promising

It is my first book by this author but I must say it is a very interesting story. I hope it has very unpredictable and original end as a true mystery/ detective story should have. The way the relationship between the two characters unfolds I would not necessarily want a happy end for them. Somehow and despite their attraction I do not feel they belong to each other. As a prediction I think the black widow is (or should be) behind the gifts and is not (or should not) innocent as far as her husbands' deaths are concerned. Scott has equally troubled past but he should find female police partner that will help him solve the mystery of black widow but also his own issues without necessary happy end between them. It would be to predictable and I think boring also if after series of books the two main characters stay together. That would be acceptable for a plain romantic story but not for a book that has potentially very good story with mystery and suspense. I hope that the author's imagination allows for plenty of possibilities. As this is unfinished story it gets 4 stars but it sets a high bar for the next books in the series.

Holy smokes. I am once again completely blown away at the evil genius that is Jenni Moen. With Black Widow, she has messed with my brain once again yet somehow I couldn't be happier. My mind is reeling. The unanswered questions whirling around in my head are making me dizzy. This romantic mystery has me doubting both Scott and Celeste, almost as much as they continue to have moments of doubt themselves about each other!

A week-long tryst has gotten more complicated and quite unbelievable with each new day. I'm not sure either one of them will walk away unscathed but the chemistry between Scott and Celeste cannot be denied. There are enough twist and turns to make this rollercoaster ride the wildest you'll ever experience. I'm still in shock at the ending and can only hope that book 2 of this 3 part series is here sooner rather than later.

If you love a great mystery that is combined with some serious heat, then grab this book. You may find yourself screaming wtf more often than not, but I am telling you now, it's worth it.

5 anxious stars!!!

OH. MY. GAWD!! Jenni Moen is an evil woman when it comes to writing suspense! Black Widow sucked me in with brilliant wordplay from the very beginning and kept me second guessing EVERYTHING I read. Trying to glean the hidden meaning behind every word! I know that nothing is as it seems when dealing with this super-fantastic author. Just when I thought I had something figured out, I found myself doubting my insight. Then, WHAM!! the book ended! NO! NO! NO! I knew it was a cliffhanger but I wasn't ready for the book to end! I could just hear Jenni Moen's evil cackles as I thought about throwing my tablet across the room! I may have to go to her house and make sure she is getting the second book written.

In case you haven't figured it out, I LOVED Black Widow. If you read no other book the rest of the year, you have to read this one. If you haven't read any books by Jenni Moen, I strongly urge you to read her books. If you love conundrums, read With The Father. Read Dearborn if you enjoy PNR. Just read all her books.

Oh, this book! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I couldn't put it down until I got to the very last page. Jenni Moen knows how to write suspense. There were so many twists and turns throughout this book. It's been a while since I've read a romantic suspense book that left me so baffled as to where the author was leading me and what was going to happen. All of the puzzle pieces don't quite fit yet, but it's clear that they will come together in a climactic ending. I can't wait for book 2!

I loved these two tortured souls. Scott and Celeste had so much pain and loss in their pasts that it seems like nothing will ever be right for them again. I'm glad that a chance meeting led them to each other. Who else but someone with similar experiences would be able to heal that heartache. The question still stands, however, as to whether they will ever find peace. Will their relationship cost them more than just their hearts? And is Celeste really a black widow or just that cursed?
