The Girl In Between series boxset contains the following: The Girl In Between The Boy In Her Dreams The Children of the Moon The Daughter of the Night
From The Girl In Between: Bryn Reyes is a real life sleeping beauty. Afflicted with Klein-Levin Syndrome, she suffers episodes of prolonged sleep that steal weeks, and sometimes even months, from her life. But unlike most KLS patients, she doesn’t spend each episode in a catatonic state or wake up with no recollection of the time she’s missed. Instead, Bryn spends half her life in an alternate reality made up of her memories. For Bryn, the past is a place, until one day a boy she’s never met before washes up on the illusory beach of her dreams with no memory of who he is.
But the appearance of this strange boy isn’t the only thing that’s changed. Bryn’s symptoms are worsening, her body weakening as she’s plagued by hallucinations even while awake. Her only hope of finding a cure is to undergo experimental treatment created by a German specialist. But when Dr. Banz reveals that he knows more about her strange symptoms than he originally let on, Bryn learns that the boy in her head might actually be the key to understanding what’s happening to her, and worse, that if she doesn’t find out his identity before it’s too late, they both may not survive.

This is a reread review, on a DNF book from 2020 DNF at 97% I was so close to finishing it (the end of book four). I loved it at first, but by book three it got pretty sucky. I figured it would get better, because the first two books were amazing. So I powered through it, but that ending was a mess. I kept having to reread chapters to understand. And by the end, it just wasn't worth it.
Book 1: ★★★★★ Book 2: ★★★✩✩ Book 3: ★★★☆☆ Book 4: ★✩✩✩✩
You need to read them all one right after another. Its honestly one book. It is insane, and will anger you at points. But overall the story was deep and loved how all over the place it was.
There was cursing, most which seemed uncessary, to me, added just because, well, how else can you explain how horrible she really felt? Or how annoying it was? Or how much she really hates him?
The story starts when Bryn wakes up after sleeping for a few weeks. And, the next few chapters are all about her boyfriend. How he left her. How she hates him but as soon as he comes near she wants to be together again.
Her friend convinces her to go to a party at a friend's house, where her (ex?) boyfriend comes up to her, and she runs through the house to avoid him, and through bedrooms with couples in various stages of undressing, until he gets her in a closet, and they kiss and start to do more even, but then someone else opens the door, and she runs away and hates herself.
That's about as far as I got.
Also, at some point we're introduced to another character's POV. Also first person. And there's no way of realizing this since it's not mentioned anywhere that the current chapter, which reads just like the last, has a different character narrating it than the chapters before. (Other than the fact that it doesn't make sense.)
Wasn't impressed by what I read, however. And, no, seeing that I didn't even get halfway through the first book, and I found this book for free online, I won't be recommending this to anyone else.
Read on KU: This was a simple, yet complex story, and I'm still not sure I've 100% grasped where Bryn ended up. Personally, the last book was probably overdone for me, too many unnecessary characters, too much chaos, and then there was nothing. Until the last book I would have given this 5 stars, but book 4 just got to a point where it felt it was never going to end, and then 'poof' it did.
I enjoyed book 1. Book 2 moved to fantasy and it was still a good story. By book three the story line became less believable, like it was being forced. By book 4 it was fantastical and I skipped to the end. In forcing the story I lost my connection to the main character and whether she lived or died I would not have cared.
Overall this was a great series well written, although a bit hard to follow at times. At times it seemed to jump from one point in a scene to a completely different point that was unrelated to what had been occurring.
Book One was fantastic. Book Two was pretty good. Books Three and Four were confusing and ran around in circles until an abrupt ending that left too many loose ends.
This was harsh, brutal and absolutely beautiful. The sort of story that draws you in from the very first page and keeps you reading until the very last. Highly recommended.
