I honestly hoped this book will be helpful as I've never done social media marketing before. Instead, the book spends all the time talking about common sense things and talking about the history of the world, communication and social media tools. Although, it can be interesting sometimes, the name of the book suggested rather practical help. I had this book on Audible, paying $15 for it and not being able to skim. I do not recommend doing this.
Well organized, clear writing and lots of information. Things I especially liked: “The Last Word” summaries at the end of each chapter “Next Step” lists for each section
And especially, she maintained a professional tone throughout, not hokey, chatty, exclamation point laden claptrap and no fake case studies.
As someone who is not familiar with social media marketing, this was a great introduction into the topic! I took a lot of great information out of this.
A good introduction to the myriad of social media options that one has at their disposal. I like how they've been broken down into several sections, based on the type of media handled. So you get dedicated chapters on podcasting/radio, another on blogging, the three giants (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube), crowdfundings and forums. At the end of each chapter, there's also a summary section and interviews with influential people in the social marketing business. I also like how it's written in fairly simple language - even terms like gamification are explained in detail.
This book was a good overview of social media marketing and different platforms, but it felt more oriented to promoting your personal brand online instead of working for a business. The chapter at the end about history/genealogy seemed really out of place and unnecessary for this book.
