Aiden

I’m a doctor. Not just any doctor. I’m an OB/GYN, so I know my way around the female anatomy. It goes without saying, I’m pretty comfortable around women. That is, until one particular bespectacled beauty makes me incredibly uncomfortable. And suddenly, I’ve got no clue whatsoever what to do about this particular woman.

Gray

I did it. I had a one night stand and now all the warnings my momma gave me are coming true. I’m pregnant and he’s not really into relationships, let alone the instant family kind. So, I’m going it alone in Ireland, a country I’ve only just moved to, and ready to be a single mother, until my search for a doctor leads me right back to him.

Review:
I liked this book. They had good chemistry. It was a bit comical to me to have an OB/GYN get someone pregnant on a one night stand. When she walk into the clinic and hides in the bathroom. He was arrogant and cocky, took what he wanted and I loved reading it. Gray “Specs” can’t resist him. They are different and the same all at once. Aiden doesn’t do well when confronted with the truth. He makes comments that should have had him punched in the face. He said some hurtful things.

Aiden had decided that after his father died and watching his mother's heart break, that he would never go through that. So he closes himself off from love as to not feel that heartbreak if someone leaves. He can’t stop thinking about Gray though. So many feels in this book. Then Gray being American and pregnant in Ireland is worried about not being able to stay. She has no one with her except her friend Keeva. I again really enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to meet more of the Murphey’s in the books to follow. There are some twists to get them where they should be, and like I said I liked reading them and watching their relationship grow. There are arguments and love and misunderstandings galore. There are also some things left unsaid, that should have been said. Just go read this book you won’t be disappointed.

Needs a good editor. Or a detective to solve the problem of Gray's disappearing siblings. She goes from having nothing in common with her siblings on p11 to being an only child a few pages later. Also, Aiden feels love in his sole. Which one? Left or right? Don't keep us in suspense!

Firstly, I want to say that I think the overall plot of this book is good and had some nice ideas. The concept of an OB-GYN getting someone pregnant accidentally worked for me, as did a lot of the rest of the plot. The pregnancy aspect of the book as a whole was done very well, in my opinion. Some of the strongest writing in the book was about the pregnancy - her appointments, her feelings, and the difficulties of pregnancy. The storyline also introduced who I felt was the most solid character in the novel, her actual OB-GYN, Thomas, whose stable, calm presence was very clear in every scene he was in.

The novel also handled really sensitively, and there were some very touching moments towards the end of the book. I thought the scenes where both of them held their child for the first time were beautifully written and made me feel quite emotional in a way that I hadn’t anticipated given my feelings about the rest of the book. I also quite liked Gray, as a heroine. She was very sympathetic to me and I thought her character behaved fairly realistically to the events of the plot.

The main thing that was a problem for me was that I did not like the hero, Aiden. I liked him in the first chapter, but once they reunited, he was just not a nice character. He was mean, which feels like a really childish word to use, but it’s the best one I can think of. He does apologise for his judgemental behaviour, but it felt really unnecessary, and there was so much emphasis on him loving his bachelor, no-strings lifestyle at the start, it sort of set him up as being unlikeable for me. I also felt like he unnecessarily goaded Gray at points in the plot where it felt unlikely he would do that. I just never warmed to him, not even when his personality improved.

I also didn’t really feel any chemistry between the two of them at all. I don’t know if this is because I didn’t like Aiden, but whatever the reason, I never really felt a spark between them. In the initial stages of their reunion, it felt very much like they might become friends, but nothing more. They moved way too fast in a way that didn’t feel very realistic. I think if he hadn’t been such a prickly character in the first place, it would have worked better.

The next set of problems seem sort of minor, but built up to be quite annoying. The writing style of this book is quite confusing. It just sort of rambles quite a lot. A lot of the dialogue is marked by speaker quite poorly so it’s hard to tell who has just spoken; and a lot of the dialogue felt stiff and unrealistic.

Also, there are some really small but noticeable mistakes in the book that were distracting - at Gray’s first appointment, she’s wearing a hospital gown. There are lots of descriptions of it gaping open and her being embarrassed about it. Then when she’s reunited with Aiden and they have an argument, she storms off in tears - but still seems to be wearing the gown. Was she just wandering about Dublin? I know this is tiny, but it really took me out of the story. Similarly, there was a scene early on where Gray overhears Aiden on the phone to a woman named ‘Jess’, and it’s set up as if Jess is going to be someone in the story, or some kind of conflict (Gray gets sort of jealous, as I saw it) but she never comes up again.

Also, some parts just weren’t explained fully

I also had a problem with Aiden’s family - he had so many siblings who were minor characters, but they all felt the same and I got them confused a lot.

The plotting of this book was also not great. The pregnancy storyline felt well-planned, but their relationship didn’t. The development of their romance felt very tailored to fit a series of events that the author wanted to happen, and as a result, a lot of it just didn’t make sense. This mainly has to do with the conclusion, but there are other elements that I didn’t understand, so I’ll get to the conclusion in a moment.

Firstly - the timeline of when he told his siblings was really hard to follow. In one scene, he seems to have told them and have argued with them about it, but when Gray meets them, none of them know she’s pregnant. On a similar note - Keeva, his sister and her best friend, just seems to magically know she’s pregnant. I couldn’t work out exactly when Aiden or Gray told her she was having a baby, or that they were having a baby together - I thought the novel really needed a conversation with her. It’s a big thing. If one of my brothers accidentally impregnated my best friend after a one night stand, and no one told me, I would be hurt. It just felt really odd. I might have missed something, but I thought the timeline of this part of the book was really unclear and it got very confusing.

The final conflict between them felt really contrived and forced. This is combined with the really, really pointless New York plotline.

From this I think it’s obvious that the author wanted two things to happen towards the end:

On top of this, the ending itself felt quite blunt, although as I said, some of the best writing in the book happened at this point so I can forgive that. Overall, I think the plot could have worked but the writing and plotting needed a lot of work. The characters needed fleshing out more, the plot needed tightening in some places and completely reworking in others, and the writing needed a good edit. I wanted to like this, but I just didn’t really enjoy it as a whole.

When your expected future becomes expectation of a different kind. How will YOU deal with the curve-balls life throws at you?

You plan your life, and expect your future, then there’s that curve ball – you adjust.
You get pregnant and expect a healthy pregnancy, then there’s the curve ball – this is that story.

Expectation is the third book of Holly’s that I have read, and her writing gets better with each outing.

Aiden Murphy: Doctor, useless bartender, and babysitter failure. He’s also a man who likes to spread himself widely among the ladies, very rarely going back more than once. We’ve gotten to know a little of Aiden in Holly’s novella, “Avow”, and while each book is a stand-a-lone, getting to know the family only enhances the enjoyment of this book.

Gray Fairfield: a self admitted library geek and introvert, and a long-time friend of Aiden’s sister Keeva. She’s recently landed herself her dream job amongst ancient manuscripts at Dublin Trinity College Library as a library historian, and is celebrating a night out with Keeva at Murphy’s pub. She’s decidedly influenced by the whiskey/beer combo she’s been drinking, and is completely swept off her feet by a sexy guy, deciding that even if guys like him don’t usually kiss girls like her, she’s gonna make the most of the opportunity.

Fast-forward 3 months, and Gray is pregnant. Contacting Keeva, she askes for a doctor who specialises in ‘female problems’, and meets her one night stand and baby daddy – Aiden Murphy. Not just any old doctor, but a leading gynaecologist and obstetrician, he’s gobsmacked at the irony of someone like himself getting caught out by the failure of something as simple as a condom.

He doesn’t cut her much slack at first, but soon decides that as a Murphy, he’s all in, and not just wants to co-parent with her, but wants everything. Gray, however, has other ideas. Aiden didn’t make the best first impressions as an expectant father, and, she has the resources and the confidence to do it comfortably on her own. What he does do, is play the long game, gradually breaking down the walls she has guarding her heart: “I haven’t slept with anyone since the night you and I got together. You came around and messed with my perfect life and made it all clear to me... Someone had given you to me and my soul knew you were different, but my brain and my d!ck were having trouble letting go of their ideals.” Wow, romantic words followed by avowals of love. ‘Expectation’ is a great read. I only have one complaint, it suddenly wrapped the end up very quickly.

Read Holly’s dedication at the front and then enjoy her book. I’m really glad that Gray and Aiden got their HEA, because not everyone gets theirs in real-life. Thank you Holly, for the strength and bravery you showed in writing a book that is so personal to you. 4.5 Stars, Absolutely.

Five Amazing Stars! Grey just moved to Ireland, started her dream job, and meets a sexy Irish man ending up having a one night stand with him. She has never had a one night stand before because she is usually more of cautious about men. We then move ahead two months and she discovers that she is pregnant from her one night stand. Aiden does not believe in relationships because he saw first hand what losing a loved one was like with his parents. Aiden is a OBGYN who Grey made an appointment with when she sees her one night stand she is very surprised. Can Aiden and Grey work thorough their problems to be able to come to an understanding for the benefit of the child? I was hooked from the first chapter of this book and felt it was well written. I fell in love with the characters and felt their emotions as they went through this journey. This was a wonderful story of two lost souls coming together. I enjoyed the story, this is book one of the Murphy's Law Series and can be read as a stand alone novel. Highly recommend!

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. This book was read and reviewed by Annamaria for Alpha Book Club.

Another Murphy family hit! This time we find the good doctor, Aiden, looking into the eyes of his newest patient, his one night stand from months earlier. Well now what? His first impression doesn't exactly go over well, will he get a second chance? Absolutely loved this story. Two people thrown into a scenario neither expected. A good romance. Both sides trying to fight their feelings. Family coming together. Loved the characters and the "obstacles" they faced. Well written and flowed nicely. Highly recommend this one click.

While I quite enjoyed Expectation for the most part and I admittedly raced through it, there were many, many times the heroine got on my absolute last nerve. She was reckless and pig headed about her health and it wasn't the least bit endearing. I hope that this was an isolated event and doesn't carry over into other works by this author... I suppose there is only one way to find out.

Flawed by bad editing

Good story flawed by bad editing. Bad enough to have to halt the flow in order to figure out what the sentence was supposed to be. I liked the characters and the storyline though.

Expectation by Holly Mortimer is another new to me author and book that I discovered through Quirky Blind Date with a Book. While there were a few things that I had some issues with, I am definitely interested in reading more from Holly Mortimer, especially in this series. Expectation is the second book in the Murphy's Law series and it can be read as a standalone story.

After moving to Ireland and letting loose one night while out with a friend, Gray's life is forever changed. Suddenly finding herself pregnant and in need of a doctor, Gray finds herself face to face with the man she had a one night stand with. Aiden has never been interested in more, but when Gray shows up pregnant with his child, he starts to see a new future he never planned on.

While I liked both Aiden and Gray, I had a tough time relating to them. They frustrated me at times, and they acted rashly. Gray jumped to conclusions and her actions were hard to get behind. Aiden came off as a jerk at times, saying and doing things that made it hard to support him. When these two were good together though, I really felt like they had something between them. Unfortunately though there were other times that it made it hard to fully believe their relationship. Things seemed to change between them with a flip of a switch, going from just lust and attraction to them suddenly loving each other. It was a bit too unrealistic for me to find believable.

I did think that these two had chemistry, and there was a lot of promise here. I liked the side characters and would be interested in reading their stories as well. I think that Holly Mortimer is definitely an author worth keeping an eye on. Her writing style and this story had a ton of potential, and I can see her being one that I really like with a little bit of work.

Right. Where to start on this one? I think the best part of this book was the last part, it made me cry. Aside from that, the best part was the Hero who, after the initial shock of having his bachelorhood suddenly disappear, was a solid and completely decent guy. In real life if I were friends with this couple, I would think that the girl is quite lucky to be loved by this guy when she's so... how should I say it. She's a tad self-centered. I mean, I get her independent streak but I hate it when they're so stubbornly independent that they end up making stupid decisions. It isn't even truly independence, it's the pride speaking. She kept on being mean to him whenever he was doing something nice. It didn't even strike me as smothering, what the hero was doing. I don't understand why she As the book ended, this struck me more as a happy-for-now ending rather than a true HEA because the story didn't convince or show me that they had a solid foundation to stand on. I think the POV storytelling was at fault for this. It's like we got nothing about how they actually spent time together, because all the internal dialogues were about how they felt about the situation and how the other was affecting them... Not much description about what they were doing, and now that I think about it, there wasn't a lot of actual dialogue between the H and h either.

When I read the description of this book I knew it was a book for me. I love the baby aspect and the fact that the hero was an OB made it that much better.

Aiden was a great hero. I think he took everything in very well. What he was handed was something a lot of people can handle that we'll. He was a jerk sometimes but I felt that made him better.

Gray was also amazing. She did what she had to, she was responsible and respectful, but deep down she was really scared. You can feel that new mom feel with this book and that made Gray more genuine.

I really wish there was more dialogue and character interaction. It's not that there wasn't a lot, there just seemed to be a lot more inner dialogue then interaction.

The plot is something that is really dear to the author. We find that out by reading the author's note at the start of the book so I felt a deeper connection to the story because you could feel how personal it was so the author. What you read in the description is what you get with this book but more feels.

My biggest complaint would be that the end was way too fast. It all happened too quick. While it was written well, I still would have liked seeing it more in depth.

Overall, I really liked the story. It was fun but serious. It was sweet and sad. I liked the different characters that we met and would love to see more of them. Keeve is the next book and I'm super excited for her story. And I'm planning on going back and reading book 1 of the series. 4stars #2OCCJD

What is a bookish girl to do when her sexy 1 night stand leaves her a little something unexpected?? Go to the Doctor of course!

What happens when your new doctor ends up being the baby daddy??!! AND the brother of your BFF! Seriously, what are the odds of that?

Gray has made the move to Ireland all on her own after having had a rather cold upbringing by her distant, wealthy parents. She is definitely an introverted character but also has her moments where she exerts herself - don't think she doesn't have a backbone!

After allowing herself a one night fantasy with a hot guy who would definitely be normally out of her league she finds herself pregnant. Not good - especially when she doesn't know the father's last name or anything about him and she has just started a new job! Of course when she goes to the doctor - who is recommended by her BFF - she discovers that the father of her baby is much closer than she thinks... maybe uncomfortably so.

Aiden doesn't have the best reaction to the news of impending fatherhood and that sets the tone for the rest of the story. He has to fight to win his way back into Gray's good graces and prove that this baby AND a relationship with her is something that he really wants - REALLY!

Told in alternating POV's it follows the two of them through the pregnancy (which doesn't go quite as planned). It was funny in points, heartwarming and kinda realistic and believable but done in a good way.

I really ended up enjoying this book - it came as a recommended read. I wasn't sure at first but it drew me in and I was really rooting for Aiden and Gray to make a go of things.

I am happy to say that I have found a new author! Love when that happens!

It is a safe read (with a couple of exceptions as we find out that Aiden was a bit of a manwhore) but no cheating. Lovely HEA.

Would definitely like to hear Ashlyn's story and I am going to search out Brennan's book and read it as well.

Decent book

I really enjoyed reading this book, was filled with a lot of cute moments. The only thing I wish had more In depth was her waking up and the baby’s care. Everything was rushed. The whole ending I feel like was very incomplete. It seems as though she was awake prior to us finding out she was awake. No one was surprised at all that she was was all of a sudden awake. There just wasn’t emotion at all really in that part where most people would be jumping for joy crowding around her happy. It didn’t even mention the family seeing the baby. Her recovery was very rushed I don’t know I just feel like everything toward the end where it should be the most interesting part since the book is coming to an end, but it just wasn’t enough. Thinking again they never touched on the subject of telling her parents about the pregnancy. I don’t know I feel like the author missed a lot of pieces in the book.

Perfection

Holly Mortimer has written perfection with this magical book about Gray Fairfield, an American working at Temple College as a Library Historian in Ireland, and Aiden Morgan, who was born in America but who has moved to Ireland to be with his family following his Irish born mother’s death. He’s an OB-Gyn who co-owns his practice. Gray was out to celebrate wither her friend Keeva’s and gets separated from her when she meets Mister Tall, Dark and Handsome and does the unexpected and spends the night with him. This isn’t your usual storyline as evidenced when, three months later she finds out she’s pregnant but those aren’t the only surprises in store for her. Whoa Baby! This is a delicious story that will have you laughing, crying and rooting for a HEA. These characters and the supporting secondary characters are so real and lovable you just want to squeeze them. I’m hooked on the whole group and Holly Mortimer’s wonderful talent!

I had the pleasure of reading this book with the Quirky Blind Date With a Book group! This is the second time I have absolutely fell in love with a book through them. I had it on my kindle for a few days before I could get to it but once I did I could not stop! I started it late at night and had to FORCE myself to stop and go to bed. When I woke up in the morning I finished it and my only wish is that it didn't end so soon!

Gray and Aiden are the last two people you'd expect to be together in her eyes. She's not stick thin or anything special... Aiden is sex on a stick and she can't resist him. When a night of fun turns into something more serious and brings them back together unexpectedly, its quite entertaining to watch it all unravel.

How would YOU feel if your boyfriend/baby daddy was your gynecologist? Heccccckkkk no!

Gray and Aiden obviously have a tremendous amount of work ahead of them if they want to make this relationship work. They face many obstacles, one of them being life threatening. That hit home for me because I suffered from something similar during my pregnancy.

Expectations is an easy and fun read but at the same time it tugs at your heartstrings and takes your breath away. The emotions hit me like a ton of bricks I wasn't expecting to feel.

"Everything would figure itself out, and there would be joy and there would be pain, but we would both figure out how to navigate through it."

Love the Murphy family and all the strong characteristics of every one of them! THIS is how a family should be!

My rating: 5/5 stars

What would you do if the one time you let loose, and had a one-night stand, you got pregnant? Well, that’s what happened to Gray. To add insult to injury, it turns out that the doctor she gets sent to turns out to be said one-night stand. So, based on that, you’d think that this book might be fluffy and fun…and it was at some points. But, it also surprised me with great characters and some drama that may or may not have made me misty (ok, I’ll admit, it did make me misty).

Gray and Aiden meet at a bar and are supposed to never see each other again. But, of course, that doesn’t happen. They’re thrown into this life-altering situation and need to figure out how to make it work. Neither of them is looking for a relationship and, in fact, Aiden always does his very best to stay away from them. So, you can only imagine how difficult this situation is for both of them. Aiden is a good looking, swoony, sexy doctor. He’s focused on himself and doesn’t come off as a guy who would make a great dad…which is funny since he delivers babies for a living. Because of his initial cockiness, I enjoyed his transformation all the more as the story progressed. Gray is a girl after my own heart – a curvy librarian who likes books almost more than she likes people. She has a hard time letting go and coming to terms with Aiden’s desire to make a go of their relationship. I must admit that I was a bit frustrated by that at times but I could also understand her hesitation. The relationship building here was a slow burn. Towards the end of the book there’s a twist that will have your heart beating and your eyes tearing up. I won’t tell you what or how…just be prepared.

Overall, this was a good read. I enjoyed the characters and the situations. The story definitely captured more of my heart as it progressed and things got serious…it was definitely a journey. This is my first book by this author but I will definitely add her other books to my TBR.

A Great Book by Holly Mortimer. I have not read the other books in this series but I plan to check them out. Gray is a librarian living in Ireland with her dream job. Aiden is an OB/GYN. They meet at a bar and have a one night stand. This results in a pregnancy. I won't add any spoilers but I enjoyed the main characters and all of Aiden's brothers, sisters, and their partners. Gray is more of a loner who moved away from her parents. They really were never there for Gray and didn't understand her. Gray's only friend in the country is one of Aiden's sister. She meets her at the bar the night she and Aiden hook up. It was nice to see Aiden become a better person because of Gray and the situation they find themselves in. It is also great to see Gray become a part of a real family.

Um somethings don't make sense

It's a three if kindle ever lets me post. I balled my eyes out, and really like Aiden. I'm not so wild about Grey mainly because she's an idiot. But the sudden show up of the scary stuff is stupid. She could have done the smart things and still wound up in the same scary situation but I would have liked her more. Her ignoring everything to fit her version of the world was why I call her an idiot--and she does it several times so it's a character trait not just a momentary lapse. The whole low self-esteem flaw was half assed at best and should have been left. And I hated the magical cop out in the end there wasn't even a turn around moment just danger Will Robinson then HEA.

I loved this book!
Love isn't always easy...its messy, hard, misunderstood, and sometimes painful.
But when you learn to compromise, and listen it is amazing, rewarding, wonderful.
This novel has it all....it intense, madding, joyful, heartbreaking, and brilliant.

Aiden a noncommittal Dr. Meets Gray by chance, is drawn to her....
Gray does something out of character, ends up pregnant far from home...

The second meeting doesn't go so well........
.....the pregnancy wasn't easy either, once trust and honestly is establish...
Their story is begins, watching these stubborn people fall in love was amazing

Good story

I loved the story but it was very predictable. There were many spelling and grammar issues, which made these supposedly intelligent people sound dumb. There were a lot of repeats of feelings (sentences) which was strange.
And again another female that’s supposed to be strong but is constantly apologizing for things she shouldn’t be apologizing for. This book would’ve been 3 chapters if you took out all of the “I’m not good enough for him”, “I can’t let myself love him/her”. It gets annoying.

Aiden and Gray have a one night stand, which she doesn’t usually do. She gets pregnant, and guess who her OB/GYN is?

They work through their shock and blaming, then work on trying to plan to parent, then go out and are still attracted. Aiden realizes he’s changed, he wants Gray and their child, not being an independent bachelor.

For Gray, it’s a struggle to trust because her parents mostly abandoned her emotionally, and she doesn’t feel worthy of Aiden.

The culmination of the birth and their declarations of love end the book off. Nice, easy read, kind of short.

I just love this series!! The Murphy family has snagged my heart and I can't wait for the next book!
This book is about Gray and Aiden. Gray is a curvy librarian and Aiden is a hot doctor. She never thought she would be good enough for the hot doctor... but she was wrong! Throw in a curveball that draws them together and we get to see just how great they really are together! Loved, loved this story!

What starts as a one night stand takes Aiden and Gray on an unexpected relationship journey.

Gray is an introvert. She rarely goes out and she does not do one night stands. When she finds herself pregnant after a crazy night at the pub, she decides to tackle pregnancy and motherhood on her own . . . with finding a doctor as priority number one. The last thing she ever expected was to walk into her appointment to discover that her one night stand was also her doctor.

Aiden is a bit of a playboy, who loves women, but does not love commitment. He’s always careful with his conquests, and never expected to be a father. When Gray walks into his exam room, he is floored. So floored, in fact, that he acts quite the jerk, offending Gray enough that she is willing to walk away forever.

Deciding that he should do the right thing, Aiden tracks Gray down to offer his support through her pregnancy and then into parenthood. What follows is a beautiful story of pregnancy hormones, unexplained emotions, wrong steps, asking for forgiveness, and learning to trust and love.

Holly Mortimer did an amazing job of showing that pregnancy and falling in love is not always glamorous and that it is can be difficult and sometimes even painful. Both Gray and Aiden have very different personalities, and both are very stubborn. They are forced to learn to compromise with one another to make any sort of relationship work, as friends or more, for the sake of their baby. Add in a high-risk pregnancy, and both must learn to navigate the many pit falls put into the path of their budding relationship.

I love that this book showed that pregnancy and love are not easy. Emotions for both parents are all over the place. This book felt very real, and I appreciated that. It is a well written story of two people who find themselves in unexpected circumstances that need to determine how to make it work for them.

4 stars and the wish that I could hang out at the pub with the Murphy clan!

Hmm

Started off okay but then just got a bit too silly for me. An ob\gyn has a one night stand and it leads to a pregnancy. She then turns up at his clinic and then it becomes a rambling romance of sorts.
Gets preeclampsia and worse case scenario occurs. Just didn’t flow nor did I take to the characters. Sorry.

Fantastic

This story was absolutely fantastic. It takes a story like this to realize there are still dangers to childbirth. We just figure things like this don'thappen anymore. It has sadness for what they went through,Happiness for the outcome,& the love & support the family showed.

I thought this sounded like a fun plot- GYN gets his one night stand pregnant. It might have been, but I lost interest pretty quickly. In the first few pages Gray talks about her siblings and then a very chapters later, she is an only child! What??? Doesn't the author know her own character?
Very disappointing.

Cute Premise Needs an Editor

I loved the premise, loved the meet cute but had serious issues with lack of continuity. One minute heroine is in a hospital gown, the next she's grabbing her purse and running away. Without getting dressed. Walked home that way too. Lots of misspellings, too.

Oh my heart!

This was such a heartbreaking story, that turned out to be wonderful. I cried, laughed and got irritated. What a wonderful family Geay decided to luckily become a part of. Aidan, the dreamy OB/GYN, oh how he took on this role with stride.

I loved this book!!
