Most baking recipes are meant to serve eight or more. But when you’re baking for a smaller household, leftovers either go to waste or straight to your waist. Luckily, Baking for Two has reengineered your favorite baking recipes to achieve the same delicious results in perfectly sized portions. With Baking for Two you’ll create foolproof, scaled-down versions of your favorite sweet and savory baked goods.
Decent recipes, some excellent and some not all that practical. There's a banana bread recipe inside though that will wow anyone. It's easily adapted too. Other's like the strawberry muffins are a true showstopper for taste. Yes, the book says it's for "two" but it's quite easy to modify accordingly and well worth it.
3.5 Stars I love the concept of this book. I enjoy baking, but most recipes make huge batches which isn't practical or healthy. The author includes a broad variety of categories and the recipes look amazing. I think I bookmarked half the book!
I had 2 nitpicks that brought my rating down a bit. Nitpick number one was that during the intro chapters the author mentions and suggests gram measurements as opposed to volume, which is amazing, but the recipes the themselves don't have the conversions. You have to reference a chart at the back of the book to convert some of the ingredients. Nitpick number two was that the book was stingy on photos, and the photos that were included were of plainer recipes. The author does have a blog, so you can see some there, but not all. I personally like to see more pictures in cookbooks to better visualize the expected result.
Baking For Two has been a sweet addition to my cookbook collection and I love that this book gears baking to smaller portions for many reasons. One, for less waste but the biggest for me is to be able to test out recipies before making large portions. Not only does it cover the fundamentals of baking but takes the guesswork out of small batch cooking to create tasty treats. My favorite chapter is Cobblers, Crisps & Shortcakes, but from breads to custards, the easy to follow recipies and tips will inspire kitchen creativity. I received a review copy of this book from the publisher.
I thought the recipes were interesting, however I would have preferred the author list the ingredients by weight rather than volume for better accuracy and to easily change the amount of servings. With all the effort put into developing this cookbook, I wish she had included how many serving were in the original full size recipe so that we could adjust it up when necessary/desired.
I really liked this book. It is not just sweets but savories as well. I ca hardly wait to start making things! Simply perfect for a single or a couple who want goodies but don't want to bake dozens of cookies or huge pans of brownies.
This cookbook had portions a bit too small for what I was looking for - while I wouldn't mind having smaller bakes for some things, I simply do not have the smaller pans (5x7-inch) required for some of these recipes.
Most recipes I'd be interested in, easy ingredients to access (nothing crazy), better quantities for a solo person than regular recipes. I just need access to an electric oven not gas.
This seemed really good (even without pictures for every recipe. But I haven’t actually tried anything out yet. Put the recipes in Evernote to try later.
