A.E. Radley is an entrepreneur and best-selling author living and working in England.
She describes herself as a Wife. Traveller. Tea Drinker. Biscuit Eater. Animal Lover. Master Pragmatist. Annoying Procrastinator. Theme Park Fan. Movie Buff.
When not writing or working, Radley indulges in her third passion of buying unnecessary cat accessories on a popular online store for her two ungrateful strays whom she has threatened to return for the last seven years.
Olivia is back, Olivia is back! If you liked or loved Flight SQA016, just get ready because Grounded is a sequel that completely surpasses its predecessor. I know, this is a rare feat, law of diminishing returns and all, but I am here to tell you it has been done.
Well, you know Olivia is back. She is also a bit broken. Where we left her in Flight SQA016, she has just royally screwed up with Emily. Remember, she railed Emily for being a neglectful parent for putting her son in a coach seat on a transatlantic flight. She was an ass and she knows it. Where we pick up a few months later in Grounded is where you start to see some of her character development begin to really flesh out. She accepts her mistake but her heart has been filleted. Losing Henry and Emily in one fell swoop has taken her down several pegs and given her more humanity. She is in emotional pain but has resounded herself that her misstep with Emily has lost her chance with them forever. She totally deserves whatever heartache she must endure. Life has a funny way of bringing folks back together and when her plane crashes into the tarmac, yup it crashed, a set of events unravels to bring these two leading ladies back together.
When we meet back up with Emily, she’s blocking her emotions about Olivia out. Unfortunately for her, sticking your head in the sand ostrich style doesn’t really work with five-year-olds. Henry wants his friend back, and to say he is persistent is an understatement. Her life hasn’t got any easier either. The debt is only growing exponentially, and even with a new day job, she not putting a dent in it. You got it! Emily is no longer serving drinks to the high fliers. Henry’s less that scrupulous grandfather has come into the picture demanding visitation for himself and his wife with the young boy. Emily, not wanting another drawn out custody battle, acquiescingly agrees to his request and in return is awarded a desk job with one of his cronies. Strings attached, boy are they attached, and it gets ugly!
No worries though for all the drama surrounding the two leading ladies their chemistry is still off the charts. It takes a bit for out two mains to come back into each other’s lives, no too long, but once they do you have that epic back and forth dialogue that makes you fall in love with them all over again. Olivia’s quirkiness is still infuriating and adorable to the quick-tempered single mother. Henry and Simon, of course, are there to give the story more depth and lightheartedness.
If you were worried on how Radley would seem the two book together after Flight SQA016’s unsatisfying ending, I’m here to tell you she did it better than I could have ever imagined. Grounded has fantastic pacing, and the layers of the story build to give you an amazing love story. Oh, you’re worried about the ending? Well, don’t be, I promise this one will leave you with a smile and some tiny butterflies.
I was given this ARC by the author for an honest review.
After the harrowing zombie novels I'd previously been reading, this book felt like a warm bath with lots of bubbles and candles.
After the appalling and abrupt end to the previous novel, this book picks up pretty much immediately and I was still left scratching my head as to the contrived ending of the last novel. For someone so understanding to so abruptly end things when she was absolutely aware of the others shortcomings, it still jarred with me throughout this novel.
However, with this novel, yet again the writing is assured, plotting and dialogue seem effortless (although I'm sure they are not) and honestly I was reduced to tears by a simple declaration from one of the characters.
Okay, I know that this started out as a fanfic but damn this is so well done that whatever it's roots, this is a beautifully engaging romantic novel and I look forward to whatever this author writes next.
Where do Ylva keep digging up these wonderful first time writers. Kudos.
Olivia Lewis returns to swoon and conquer more hearts in this sequel to Flight something².
If you're looking for an Ice Queen, you'll find better luck in www.archiveofourown.org than in this because Olivia is not one and even Ms.Radley is unable to diagnose her - still thankful for that.
Olivia maintains her center stage spot with her quirkiness and awesomeness. She face some huge challenges through her health, personal life and career in this sequel but instead of panicking and pulling my hair out, I eat lots of mandarin oranges and just enjoy myself reading how she has to handle / solve everything with her uniqueness.
Olivia and Henry - Whenever these two share page time, all I feel is love.
Olivia and Simon - To have an employee that drops everything and rushes to be by your side in sickness and in health not only portrays what a great guy Simon is but the loyalty shown is to someone worthy of.
Olivia and Emily - I'm still not a hundred percent convinced regarding Emily's feelings towards Olivia. Is she really in love with Olivia or just overwhelmed with the kindness /generosity that Olivia showers her and Henry with. I'm hoping that Emily will pull out some big Nerf guns in book 3 and make me a believer.
I liked this second book in the series but with all the blocks, barriers and bad feelings thrown at Olivia and Emily I was depressed more than elated for the majority of the novel. Emily's pride continues to be the biggest roadblock in our couples HEA and part of me was thinking she wasn't worth the effort. Henry and his sweet connection with Olivia helped me to keep reading and I was content enough by the end of the book.
The story of Emily and Olivia & Henry continues. It's hard to say much without being spoiler-y.
The prior book ended somewhat abruptly, though I'd already known that going in so it actually seemed somewhat less abrupt than others might have experienced. Probably because I owned both books before starting the series. No, the problem I encountered wasn't the abrupt ending of the first book, but the extra long opening wherein the issue that popped up at the end of book 1 took a really long time to be addressed.
There's a lot more business conflict in this book. And while the prior book included information that would lead one to expect that neither woman had great parents (or, in Emily's case, parents-in-law - I don't actually remember if Emily's parents were ever mentioned), that specific family conflict dynamic wasn't really seen until this book here. Where it played a massive an important role - when Emily's in-laws, after years of being 'quiet' on the conflict front, suddenly popped up again to be assholes.
...
I've now spent about five minutes starring at my screen trying to figure out what I can write here that wasn't/isn't filled with spoilers. Um . . . both women face work related 'issues'; at least one faces health-related issues, while the other faces family drama. Nicole, Simon, Tom, and Lucy all show up in this book (as well as someone connected to Simon, though I'm not sure if that's spoiler-y or not).
Let me premise this review by saying the writing is excellent and this is in no way a negative review... however, unfortunately Grounded hit on a few of my pet peeves, bringing it down to a 3.
Firstly, I believe the two books could have been condensed and some things removed. I skimmed through a lot of book two, especially near the end with one of my biggest pet peeves
I didn't fully recover from the cliffhanger that was book one. The dissatisfied feeling it left me with lingered. I actually don't care much for Emily right through this book, mostly because of the book one ending, but also because she generally annoyed me.
Olivia, on the other hand, is very well written and interesting. To be honest, most of the book seemed to be about her personal growth and relationship with Henry.
Still, this was a good read and I would recommend it, especially if you enjoyed book one.
Wonderful second part of Olivia and Emily's story. Yes, I know this is supposed to be the second book in the Flight Series, but between you and me, it's not. It's the second part, actually.
I love all main and secondary characters in the story. But I really, really love Olivia. Oh, the ending is also very satisfying.
I look forward to future novels by this very talented writer.
Why oh why isn't there a third book waiting for me?
Do you ever finish a book and release you didn't want it to end? Well that's how I felt when I finished 'Grounded'. This book begins two weeks after the cliffhanger in book one. And be ready, because you won't expect what's going to happen to this amazing couple next.
Olivia is miserable without Emily. She can't stop thinking about her and Emily is still angry but she's also dealing with her relationship ending and how it's effecting Henry. But a massive issue with the Airline company throws them back together in the most interesting way.
I thought I had connected with these characters in book one but by reading this book I realised I was only half way there. Book one I was 100% invested in this relationship working but in the second book I fell even further into the story and I felt like I was almost living it. I think what really cemented this book for me was Henry. I think I saw a little bit of my son in Henry and it warmed my heart but also made me sad as he had a lot to go through for a such a young boy.
The love that builds between Olivia and Emily is beautifully written with moments of pure chemistry that you feel oozing from the page. These two are fated to be together and it's so obvious to everyone around them, including you as the reader.
No cliffhanger this time but that doesn't mean that I'm not praying for a third instalment. Loved it from chapter one. 5 stars.
I'm torn I wanted to give this a 5 but I settled with 4 because of too much angst. Had headache while reading this. Problem after problem after problem. I can't breathe! I wanted to smack Henry's grandfather. He's annoying AF!
And also, I think without "the problems" I don't think Emily would even notice Olivia.
Nonetheless, I still like this series. And of course I love the author! She's my new favorite. :))
I have to say, even though it's sweet and romantic, it's so PG rated, and I surely did hope for some more intense encounters between those two. For me, it was a mild disappointment, but for others, it might not be.
ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I was super excited to read this, having very much enjoyed the first book in the series. I have to admit I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the first, although it is an enjoyable read with a satisfying ending that doesn’t leave the reader hanging.
The good parts are very very good. I love Radley’s way of writing snappy dialogue and including genuinely funny scenes. My favorite scene is Olivia in the taco bar, and the running jokes that result. The bad guys are sufficiently bad to create tension, but not over the top. The plot has some good twists too.
Unfortunately, the story gets bogged down with drama, long-winded advice scenes on both sides that endlessly rehash events we already witnessed in the narrative, Henry being a typical kid (a LOT of the story is various people taking care of him), and side-character plots that I didn’t particularly care about. I ended up skipping a lot of scenes, particularly the Henry ones, and just skimming them until I came to the poignant line he’d say about his mom’s relationship with Olivia.
I think Olivia is one of the most fascinating characters in lesfic. She’s obviously non-neurotypical and the way she relates to people and the world around her is unique and well-written. She’s not typically romantic either, so the love story is very understated, and a lot of the story is taken up by the other characters.
Overall, a nice read with a large cast of characters, lots of drama and sub-plots, some funny moments, and some feel-good moments.
A great sequel to SQA016. If you like book 1 (which ended or didn’t end as one would have thought), then you will definitely need to get on with Grounded; just so you get some form of ‘closure’. Olivia and Emily came together again in Book 2 with a different set of problems/issues to get on. An excellent and easy read with a party to celebrate at the end of it !!
I loved it!!! I love Olivia's character and Henry's! He is so cute. I really like the previous one, but this is so much better. I hope there are a third book. I need it. I need a book of all of them living together and being cute and lovely together.
I still love the character of Olivia, and Henry, but in this one unfortunately Emily suffered. I felt in this installment she became a plot device, and a very contrived one.
The story became all too drama leaden with villains twirling their mustaches as they laughed maniacally, and characters suddenly acted uncharacteristically, all for the sake of that drama.
Emily is usually a very stubborn, independent, strong minded individual who will not accept help from anyone, and will fiercely protect her beloved son... so imagine my surprise when at the start of the book her inlaws (who had previous tried to get custody of her son and lost) come along after five years and offer her a job, and want to get to know their grandson - only for her to accept - all too easily. WHAT?
The Emily I knew from book 1, simply wouldn't do this. Neither would the Emily who constantly fights against Olivia's tender loving care and 'interference' in her life.
I found myself very frustrated and not wanting to finish.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as book 1, Flight SQA016. Given that there are already so many amazing reviews out there I will keep this short. This book is simply fantastic, it has great main and secondary characters, the plot flows well and there is an abundance of sweet and endearing moments.
The only very small point of critique I have are the chapters written from Seb's POV. I honestly found those to be unnecessary and found myself skimming and often skipping up 75% of those chapters. All in all this book and it's prequel are both a solid 4*.
I am totally enjoying the flight series and hoping there is a book 3. Would love to see where all these characters go in the quirky world the author has created.
Oh my! When we left Olivia and Emily in book 1 they were no longer together. Now, Applewood Financial is in trouble, Henry's grandparents want to take full custody and the 2 women still aren't back together. This story keeps you turning the pages to see if things get reconciled. This is book 2 in this wonderful series. (I mistakenly read book 3 first, so I know how the story ends). You will have to read this and book 3 to enjoy this series! 5 stars!
In some ways I find myself at odds with most of the other reviewers. This was quite a nice romance, but at times I found myself getting quite frustrated by some aspects of this story.
I found Emily a little irritating. Olivia is supposed to be the social inept in this story, but in many ways Emily’s pride, anger, unreasonableness and inconsistency make her far more difficult to live with.
I was much happier with last quarter of the book, except for Marcus not getting what he deserved. It’s OK having a happy ending, but I also want to see the bad guys getting punished.
Had the book finished with Marcus arrested or ruined I would have happily given it four stars.
My babies are back together. Yes, Olivia is back the whole way. Olivia and Emily see one another after the significant fallout.
Grounded is the second book in the flight series, and like the first book, it met five-star quality. I really enjoyed this book and zoomed through it when I could. Made me want to cry when I had to put it down.
The way Radley covers Olivia's personality is perfect, and not many people can do that, but it's nice to see a change, and I completely love Olivia with my whole heart. She is definitely a favourite character I have read, and I've read a lot of books.
The book's whole premise is well written and thought out, and this book is definitely sad and covers touchy subjects, but I like how Radley made them more realistic than fake, which is why I could personally connect and feel with the characters.
Don't get me started on how strong Emily is and I love how she worked more harder to understand Olivia which was more than she could do in Flight SQA016. I loved the scene with Olivia and the walking stick against Henry's grandpa. It was the Favourite scene of my life.
I stand by what I said. I freaking love this series, and on to the final book.
I don't remember the first book at all, so maybe it wasn't a good idea to read the second part after such a long time. I found it in my Kindle and thought 'why not?'.
Okay, I do remember some things. I mean the basic. I do remember what the story is about but I don't remember their chemistry and stuff like that. And I found absolutely zero chemistry between Olivia and Emily in this part. And maybe that was the problem.
I think that maybe if I read the sequel right after I've read the first part, I would've liked it better.
3.5 stars really! - Having been shocked by the sudden, hanging in mid air ending to the previous book in the series I was a bit concerned this book would be the same! ( Everyone knows formulaic romance is meets/loses/gets) I felt I paid double for one arc. I enjoyed the books, the first one for me was stronger and I enjoyed all the character interactions more - I though the dialogue was lighter. There were a also couple of inconsistencies in the second book that were a bit distracting.
Taking a break from the series I mean it’s alright nothing to extraordinary about kind of boring a little and problems getting resolved to fast in my opinion probably revisit the last book in a week or so
• Grounded • Amanda Radley • MC Olivia Lewis & Emily White
Olivia Lewis’s really big mistake has cost her the chance for forever with Emily White and her five-year-old son, Henry. Brokenhearted, she deals with romantic failure in the only way she knows how—by throwing herself into her work. Timely, considering her clients are leaving Applewood Financial in their dozens, and she doesn’t know why. Things go from bad to much, much worse when Olivia’s plane all but crashes into the tarmac and a chance encounter sends her straight back to Emily.
Emily doesn’t have time for forgiveness. She’s lost her job at Crown Airlines, and with no income, rising debts, and Henry’s unscrupulous grandfather making demands, romance is the least of her problems. But Henry really wants his friend Olivia back, and he’s not taking no for an answer.
Point of View /. Review
Emily has a young son Henry. His grand parents come out of no where and wanted Emily to give Henry up. They hired a private investigator to check her out. They discovered all her debts and her work schedule . Her former company let her go and she was in need of a new job. I felt from the beginning it was a set up.
Olivia is trying to recover from her and Emily’s fight and then a terrible accident happens. She has Simone and Nicole to keep her grounded. Olivia loves Henry and will do anything for him and Emily.
This is the second book in this series. I felt like the main issue with this couple was communication.. Olivia was right to a point, but with emails she needed to think before she would speak. She was trying because of her love for both Emily and Henry.
Henry is a shining star In the book. He is a very sweet and curious little boy. The supporting characters in the story keep you invested in the story.
There are some twist and turns the two main characters go through. The discover what is important in life. I highly recommend this book. It was sweet and beautiful!
I received an ARC from Bold strokes books through NetGalley!Thank you to Bold Strokes Books!! 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finished it in a single day, taking advantage of my day off. Nice, unpredictable romance for a change, with all of the nice characters of the first part, and some bad guys in addition. There was the HEA ending, but the story kept me guessing, in suspense, and just wanting to read on. The third 5 star (almost) clean (actually fade-to-black) romance in succession from this author.
The only stuff that I could have done without, were the two babies that were announced in the last chapter. Here I am, reading a lesbian romance, but the babies apparently still just have to keep coming. A marriage being announced in the last chapter, that I can live with, but add two future babies in the mix, and I end up a bit out of my comfort zone :-).
