Daeson and Synjan leave the world of Trent and land in J'Bdyamn, a tropical paradise. Removed from modern comforts, they are discovered by the Mukake tribe and welcomed into an imposing cliffside village. Daeson's fear of heights and Synjan's inability to communicate using the melodious native language have them struggling to adapt... and the Portal is an impossible distance away.
Hawke arrives the next world over, on Femme. He is paired with a Wanderer Clairvoyant whose messages make no sense - especially when she starts predicting Hawke's own future. Unnerved and isolated in a world that would prefer to enslave him rather than help him, Hawke is forced to wait for Synjan and Daeson to arrive.
Unaware of the storm brewing in their wake, Daeson and Synjan are forced to confront their pasts, accept their differences and decide their futures before the war they've inadvertently stepped into erupts around them.
We get to watch characters we've known as individuals come together as a team but just like human nature, things are never simple. Wheels are set in motion and the authors build the action and drama steadily, with some nice surprises that makes me excited to read the next book! The story is gathering pace and I'm keen to watch more characters collide :D
There’s a whole new world to explore and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever read. Even just the language and way they communicate and build sentences is super cool. It’s once again very light on the romance, big on exploration and discovery. There is crossover with another book from the author, Femme. It’s a planet one of our MCs finds themselves; where women run everything and men are kept as slaves. There’s enough in here to explain it without feeling like you’re missing anything, but I definitely feel like I unlocked a bonus level having read it previously. Our MCs all look set to collide in the next book, though some of those cryptid visions from the clairvoyant have left me questioning whether or not that’s true. Only one way to find out.
