Re-experience Joan Johnston's beloved story of finding love in unexpected places

Previously published in February 1995 as The Unforgiving Bride

Rancher Falcon Whitelaw always swore he'd never get married, until he found himself saying “I do” to widowed mother Mara Ainsworth. And the worst part is, he knows she's only marrying him for his medical insurance.

But one look at Mara's sick little daughter makes Falcon question everything he thinks he cares about. He's never become so invested in a child's life before, or loved a woman like this…

I´ve got only one question: where can I buy a health-care plan that covers any preexistent condition??? Unbelievable!

This was NOT a fun read. You´ve leukemia and alcoholism, mixed up with a lot of guilty feelings around Falcon and Mara. AND I didn´t like the fact that, during her husband´s funeral, he was basically lusting after her and planning how he would approach her after the mourning period. :( He "redeemed" himself later as the story progressed, and that´s the only reason I didn´t end up hating this book.

First off the heroine was hateful and stupid. Her reasons for blaming the hero for her husband's death were ridiculous. Her husband was faithless, worthless alcoholic and she allowed him to be who he was. The hero was not entitled to take on the guilt or give away his money to help her and her daughter. Our hero is also a reckless chap who has basically spent all his wealth. His solution marriage and he really tries to grow up but the heroine was a uncaring harridan. He deserved much better.

Hawks way

I love to read continuous stories of families. I like to see the interactions as they move through the years. I find that I don't take a bad review from others to heart. This book showed the heartache of cancer and the sadness when remission ended. It also takes about the chance of death and reality.

Hawk’s Way: Falcon by Joan Johnston – Mara marries Falcon so that her daughter will have insurance, but that doesn’t stop them from falling for each other for real. Happy Reading!

3 ½ Stars! ~ Falcon Whitelaw was a rebel and a playboy, the last thing he expected was that he'd suddenly be married and a father. Mara had no choice but to marry Falcon. He was the only one who could help her cover the medical bills for her seriously ill daughter. But Falcon didn't want their marriage to be only of convenience, as both mother and child had quickly found their place in his heart. This is a feel good read!

This one was ok but once again, a real creepy-exploitative way to get them together. Plus the whole killing off the first husband / lusting at the funeral thing ... creepy.
