I enjoyed this book, although it wasn't as good as the two others by LaBrecque that I have read. When I began the book and read that the hero had embezzled half a million dollars from his former employer, I didn't think I would like the story at all. This did not sound like a good hero for a romance novel. Regardless of his past poor judgement , I ended up finding Nick O'Malley a likeable hero. The relationship between the hero and heroine was both touching and steamy, and I enjoyed the story.
Serena Riggs is a detective who has been investigating a money laundering scheme for several months. After a scorned girlfriend implicates Nick Malone, a description of him leads Serena to Nick O'Malley, whom she believes is Malone using an alias. Serena decides to search his hotel room while he is out, but Nick O'Malley returns unexpectedly, forcing her to hide in the closet. When her plan to leave undetected goes awry, Serena is motivated to use Malone's known fetish of being spanked as a way to glimpse the tatoo on his backside, thereby confirming his identification. As Serena poses as a sex therapist who is also a dominatrix, Nick O'Malley believes that she has been sent by his friends to ensure that he loses a bet that he can go without a woman for thirty days. When Serena realizes that Nick believes his friends sent her, she plays along, but is disgusted with herself when she feels a strong attraction for Nick.
As soon as Serena manages to get Nick out of his pants, she realizes he is not Malone. She quickly comes to the conclusion that he has been set up by the real Malone to take the fall, and she gives in to the attraction between them. When their passionate interlude is interrupted, Serena agrees to meet Nick again the next evening. After a steamy interlude the next night, Nick inadvertently discovers that Serena is a cop. After Nick discloses his past as an embezzler, Serena assures him that her presence has nothing to do with that. They decide to continue their passionate relationship and work together to catch Nick Malone and his cohorts. When the case comes to a close, Serena is unable to trust Nick not to revert to his criminal ways. She must come to terms with her past before she able to believe in Nick and his love for her.
I was dismayed when I discovered that the hero of this book had a past that involved embezzlement. I did not expect to like his character, but his protective nature toward the heroine drew me in. He came across as good natured and remorseful for his prior unsavory actions. He was described as very physically appealing, and I enjoyed the interaction between Nick and Serena. I actually felt very distressed for Nick when the heroine rejected him because she didn't trust him. I did end up finding the story to be a good one, and I look forward to reading more by Jennifer LaBreceque.

This was a great entertaining read. Nick is definitely the highlight of the book. He is caring, considerate, humorous, sexy, has a sharp mind. Serena seems to be the opposite. As the book moves forward, you can see just how much they compliment each other. 5 stars

HRB# 228. Nick O'Mally embezzled a quarter of a million dollars from a company because he could. He got caught and instead of being put in prison, was given a public slap on the wrist. However, now he is being set up to take the fall for a more serious offense. And he's being fed to Serena Riggs, undercover cop. Add a bet that Nick can go 30 days without sleeping with a woman and it gets a bit strained. Unlikely but fun.

Cute book and story...very steamy and never reading a "wrong bed" book wasn't sure what to expect!
Love how they both have to take care of things for themselves even though they knew they loved one another!
