A Warrior's Arms Xavier Brice has found the woman who holds his heart. All he desires now is to hold her in his arms, keep her safe, and return home with her to prove he is the man she once believed him to be. But his wife is not only resisting his every attempt to show her how much he loves and wants her, she is refusing to stand close enough so he might even speak to her, let alone hold her. The struggle to regain her trust and her love is becoming a fight he isn't sure he will win. And while Io Brice sometimes appears to want the very same as her husband, it is clear she is holding back secrets.
Can Xavier's love for Io remain strong enough to see them through the trials they still must face both as they travel home, and once they arrive? Or will the desires of another to destroy what the couple have prove stronger than any sword arm or armored body might withstand? A Woman's Heart Io Brice never expected her husband to come after her. She thought he wanted her dead and forgotten so he might take another as his wife. Now he says he not only wants her to return and take her place in his house as his lady wife but that she is safe with him. Can she trust what he is saying? Can she find the warmth of hope in what she feels for the man? Or will the cold actions taken against her remain as the only truth she knows? As her heart wars with her mind, she must choose a side and make a stand before she can let Xavier take her back. Can she believe he is not the one behind the attempts on her life? And if she cannot, can she bring herself to stop wanting him and everything he has always said could be hers?
When danger looms, the only hope for safety is trusting in the one who stands beside you. As dangers are revealed, Xavier and Io must find away to come together and stand strong. Will the strength in a warrior's body and the passion in a woman's heart be enough to face the deadly trials ahead? Can Xavier be the warrior Io will need to win the battle for not only her life but also her love? Can Io find the strength to fight for what she wants more than life – Xavier's heart? Will they both fall to the enemy, or will they both find victory in the Scold's Conquest?
Scold's Conquest is the fifth book in the Warrior Series.

My feelings for this series of books are so mixed up that it's making me a wee bit crazy - the sure sign of a compelling story. I thought this would be the last book in the series, and the story of Io and Xavier would finally be fully told, but not yet I'm afraid. I even waited to read book 4, Runaway Scold, until I had this one in hand. To be brutally honest, I'd love to shake this author for splitting up this story into so many books, and beg her to tell me why she's done such a frustrating thing to her poor beleaguered readers. However, I can't deny that I've read each book virtually without pause because I want to know what happens next!
The author has written a story that painstakingly demonstrates how easily misunderstandings can happen between two people who love each other. How often our actions speak louder than our words - but we are unaware of those actions as they're second nature. They feel rather unrealistic for a book set in the time of knights, but I like the tight knit group of men who are loyal to both Io and Xavier and who so clearly see what the two lovers do not. Mark, in particular, is very modern in his ability to interrogate and understand human psychology. It was great to see Xavier finally get a clue because his men force him to see that his actions made his words meaningless to Io. Beyond that, the number of times Io is grievously wounded and on the precipice of death, but still pulls through is ridiculous - particularly for a time before modern medicine and antibiotics.
To be fair, this book ends with more resolution than prior ones, but we remain ignorant of who all the baddies are, and I really, really hope to see Charlotte get the comeuppance she so richly deserves - the witch!
Soooooo, I await book 6 with bated breath and a rather childish pout.
"I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ADVANCE READER COPY OF THIS BOOK"
Let me preface this review by saying that I haven't read any of the preceeding stories so my review is only based on what I read in Book 5. Overall I had no trouble at all following the storyline as enough backstory was provided so that everything made sense without overcrowding the immediate happenings. I found the story well written & original. Even though it's not an overly long book, I found it longer to get through than expected simply because of everything happening. It wasn't a quick read for me. Also, I found it quite heavy going because of all of the emotion for about 3/4 of the story, but by the time some happiness came in I was so emotionally invested that there was no way I wasn't going to finish. Overall, I really liked it & wouldn't mind reading further in the series, although I would hope for more happiness.
This reconciliation was a long time coming but it was still too drawn out. I'm not sure if this is the last book, the ending was vague and not everything was resolved but honestly I don't think this series needs to be longer it should have been wrapped up 2 books ago.
WHAT NEED HAVE I FOR A LADY WHEN I HAVE A GODDESS?
The Worship series is one that must be read in written order to grasp the entire life and situations that play out in each book. There are key characters that are critical to each story in this ongoing saga. Just as in any great adventure, there is so many emotions, angst, and dialog. I gained a new respect for Xavier and his men, at the lengths they are willing to go for their Lady Io. Sometimes it takes a major event to be a wake-up call, and for Xavier, it was nearly losing his beloved wife, Io. His men, the knights, and warriors that are sworn to protect the crown and him will protect Io even to the death if need be.
The story is the journey as they head back to Bainsport, their home. Along the way, there are extended conversations that must take place to learn the extent of the problems. If push comes to shove, the men will protect Io over Xavier. For once, Xavier honestly listens to what Io has to say with the help of Mark. Reminders from his trusted men, “You cannot bed your marriage better.” Xavier reminding Io, “I always think of you, Io, I cannot go half a heartbeat without thinking of you.” “I was nothing more than an empty chest. But you give me riches I could not think of before. You are my heart, my very soul. It is only with you that I am filled with boundless wealth. There is no one else for me, Io. There never was, there never will be.”
In this fifth addition to the Worship series, there is plenty of dialogs that will help set the marriage of Xavier and Io on a better course. It will also contribute to preparing the reader for the next installment in this series. I look forward to seeing what will happen as they return home and Xavier steps up to the plate and puts his house in order. As with each of these books, there is a huge cast of characters that are all vital to the tale. Will we learn who has made several assassination attempts against Io? How will Xavier deal with his mother, Lady Charlotte, and the Blakes, especially Lady Sabrina? Will Xavier and Io be able to return to the happy marriage before trouble darkened their household?
I was smart enough to start this book early enough in the day so that I could finish it before bedtime (I knew I wouldn't be able to put it down). The author does a great job with character development and each character really contributes to the story. There are some minor editing errors (wrong words like "when" instead of "went"), but they are easily overlooked with such an enjoyable story..
With the help of Gunther, Mark, Simon, Jon, and Lucas, Xavier will finally see what he and his witch of a mother have put Io through. Xavier's men will also do their best to bring our couple a better understanding of each other. This story also ends with a HFN but the next (hopefully the conclusion) will see Io's return to face Xavier's mother and hopefully, the revelation of identity of the assassin/s.
As I am an impatient person, I would still suggest reading books 3-6 back to back (yes, I know book 6 is not out, yet).
Xavier’s and Io’s journey continues in this incredibly moving story. I have had the amazing fortune to read all of the five books in this series and I have found myself becoming more and more attached to this couple with each story! I find Io’s mindset to be both incredibly sad, as her life experiences have shaped her fear of getting attached to anyone, and happy, because there always is a flicker of hope buried deep inside her. I find Xavier to be an exceedingly human character as he makes mistakes and has his flaws but is willing to be persistent in his love for Io. As with the previous books in this series, I found myself very emotionally involved with this couple and am yearning for them to have an amazingly happy, loving and trusting relationship. I would definitely recommend that you purchase this story or any story in this series and that you read them in order! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I was so excited when this book came out. I love this series. This book is a little different than the previous installments but still a great story. The story revolves around the journey home after Io heals from her miscarriage. Xavier and Io must learn to communicate to uncover the threats that have caused so much harm to Io. Xavier works hard with the help of his men to listen to what Io is saying. Io continues to learn that keeping quite is not an option. This story focuses on emotions, trust, and love. The ending is a happy one but leaves you desperate for more. I am already impatiently waiting for the next installment. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This is an amazing series. Each book I have waited eagerly for and consumed quickly. You really should read all the books in the series to enjoy this one. There is a lot of angst, passion, intrigue, mystery, and discipline in most of the books. In this book, we find some resolution finally coming to Io and Xavier. We also get some answers about why Xavier behaved the way he did in the past. There was not really the disciplinary spankings in this book as there was in the past. It truly was a heartwarming book. I love Xavier's men and the way they look over both him and Io. Amazing book. Amazing series. I'm not sure is this was the last one, but I'm hoping for one last book. *I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This is the first book I have read from this series. Although I enjoyed it, I regret not reading the series in order as I feel like I missed out on a lot. The story was very well written, particularly the dialogue. I loved the complexity of the relationship between Xavier and Io, as it unfolded through the story. Despite Xavier's strength and dominance, it was clear that Io held the real power in the relationship. Io was such a unique and interesting character, she definitely makes me want to read more from the series.
