Billionaire Beach #2

Cozumel Escape

Rate this book
Enjoy this thrilling billionaire romance from Author Cami Checketts.

Brooks Hoffman, billionaire, loves women, expensive toys and fighting—in that order. A week romancing a beautiful woman on his private island is a great way to pass the time. When Sydnee Lee Swenson isn’t impressed with his money, or charmed by his…well, charm, Brooks takes it as a personal challenge to change her mind.

Sydnee Lee moved to Cozumel to volunteer at the local orphanage. She’s fallen in love with the children and doesn’t need a good-looking, over-confident, guy complicating things. Sending Brooks on his way, with just the right amount of sass, was the only option. But when Brooks puts his own life on the line for her and some of the orphaned children, she may have to take another look at the guy behind the muscles and money.

This book also contains a sneak peek at The Angler, the Baker, and the Billionaire by Author Amberlee Day and The Reclusive Billionaire by Lucy McConnell.

(4.5 Stars) *This is a companion to Caribbean Rescue, but can be read as a stand alone.*

Cami Checketts always does such a great job of fabricating a wonderful mix of suspense and romance in her books and this story isn't any different. I loved seeing the familiar characters from Caribbean Rescue make an appearance, but this story is about the best friend from that book--Brooks. I adored him before because he's larger-than-life, over-the-top, and above-and-beyond in his generosity, charm, and personality. But as all characters with these characteristics have--he has a past that he's trying to conquer and uses these traits to mask things.

Brooks is a wealthy, handsome hero, but he's also a conceited brute and I loved getting to see him more in depth. Sydnee works at an orphanage and has captured his attention, but seems to be immune to his charms. I love seeing characters complement and bring out the best in each other. I also love watching a passion and adoration develop and the tension in coming to this point is very gratifying. The anticipation and glints of romance are swoony, indeed. There are a few menacing moments, which add to the story, and showcase what this author does best--romantic suspense.

The lesson? You can't judge a book by its cover.

Content: mild, swoony romance; moments of mild peril.

*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher/author. All views expressed are completely my own.*

Cami is one of my favorites and I was super excited to pick this book up and get reading it. I love that it has characters from her last book. It was like returning to old friends. I think I liked this one even better than the first. Brooks is quite the character in the first book (over the top, flirty) and I enjoyed getting to know him better in this book. There was that little bit of suspense thrown in to give it a bit of added flavor. This was the perfect little romantic getaway for me yesterday.

I sure don't think the cover matches the description of the guy inside the book at all. I'm a bit bummed about that. (I need Kathy Jo to read this book ASAP and give me a better picture!!)

Cozumel Escape

She's Got Spunk!

“The deal is, I have dinner with you, and you keep funding the orphanage. Don’t you think for one second that you can extort me into dating you. If you pull your funding, you can bet your muscled chest that I’ll find a way to take care of those children. I would die for them, but I wouldn’t kiss you for a million bucks.”
... Straightening his shoulders and tilting his head to the side, he bestowed his irresistible signature grin on her. He never backed down from a challenge. Little did she know that he was just getting started.
And so it begins! Brooks isn't used to rejection. In fact, women love him! He usually has to fight them off. All he has to do is flex his muscles and women practically faint! But Sydnee, a social worker at the orphanage he helps fund, is having nothing of it. She's not completely immune to his charms, but she's resisting him for all she's worth. She thinks he's just a shallow, rich player, who wants only one thing from her and she's not interested! But behind Brooks' bravado hides the remains of a vulnerable little orphan boy...Will Sydnee take the time to discover the real Brooks? Or will Brooks tire of Sydnee like he does all the other women who come to the island?
This book is steamy, sensual, full of sexual tension, and clean! No swearing, no sex. There is action, suspense, and lots of romance. The plot is engaging, as are the characters. A must read! This book is part of a series of clean romance novels. However, it is easily read as a stand-alone. (If you enjoy this one, be sure to check out Caribbean Rescue, also by Cami Checketts, and the prequel to this novel. It is full of great action and romance too!) I highly recommend this story and rate it 5 stars!

Contemporary romance in a tropical setting with Christian characters.

I was not a fan of this book at all, though I could see why others might like it. I found it to be extremely cheesy and unrealistic, like why were the human traffickers included in the story other than to let Brooke’s be a hero and the way he beat them reminded me of a cheesy action film. I also didn’t like the female main character, she made assumptions and snap judgements throughout and was pushing Brooke’s into something he clearly wasn’t comfortable with rather than talking to him about the problem. It just wasn’t for me at all

Brooks had a pretty rough start in life. Between being abandoned by his mother at the age of 5, being bounced around from foster home to foster him, running away at the age of 8 and living on the streets until his adoptive father saved him and took him in at the age of 10, is it any wonder that the poor guy has a hard time with commitment? He's enjoyed his playboy life and has no plans of giving it up any time soon. Until he meets Sydnee. There is just something about her that has Brooks thinking long term and he doesn't quite know how to deal with it.

Sydnee has moved from her home in Alabama to work at an orphanage in Cozumel. She loves what she does. The children mean everything to her and she can't see her life without them. Yes, she misses her home and family but this is where she is meant to be. When she first meets Brooks she wants absolutely nothing to do with him. His over confidence and charm has her walking out the door and far away from him. But when she finds out that he is the wealthy benifactor who is single handedly funding the orphanage she works at, she's afraid he'll pull his support if she doesn't agree to go on a date with him.

It's definitely not an easy going relationship with these two. Sydnee is too busy jumping to all the wrong conclusions when it comes to Brooks that she misses seeing the real him. It isn't until they are visiting Zack and Maddie and their cute little family for Thanksgiving that she lets go of all pretenses and just enjoys getting to know him better.

But will Brooks ever be able to overcome his past enough to let go and move forward with Sydnee? Or will Sydnee's constant pushing to change him and make him fit into what she wants in her life have him running in he opposite direction? Compromise, love and understanding will be key to their happily ever after.

This is such a fun series! I am always on the look out for the next book, wondering which author will take us where and what adventures they have in store for us. It's a fun escape that's for sure! I can't seem to get enough of these clean billionaire books!

And of course I can't forget my casting! Trust me... this guy definitely has muscles... I promise! ;) Hehe.

3.5 annnd now I need a break from these books. The guy on the front does not look like brooks description. That dudes too small. I liked the story ish. Parts could have been developed more and we could have heard wayyyy less of what’s going on in their heads. Like stop with the inner dialogue. It was a bit much. And how quick their relationship was 🤦🏼‍♀️. Noooooo give it a little more time please

This was a quick read. Clean romance. The characterization was a bit off for me (a little too superficial in the beginning, although it is just a fluff read, it was still a bit over the top for me). Still, fun setting, and worthwhile help with the orphanage, so can't totally trash it. I enjoyed the escape, but it was definitely more of a light read.

3.5 stars. I guess I'm in the minority, but this was not my favorite of the series. I had trouble warming up to the characters in the beginning, particularly Brooks. Also, some of the dialogue just felt forced or "off" for lack of a better word. It was a fun read once I could get past those two things, but I liked the previous installments better.

I loved this billionaire!

For a billionaire this guy has a heart of gold. I loved the location, the romance and the drama. It was heartwarming, clean and a great way to spend a couple of hours!

Orphaned in paradise.

Overall a good book, however some aspects of the characters personalities, were constantly repeated much more than necessary. Falling in love and admitting to it is never easy, and these characters were fighting it tooth and nail.

Rating 3.5. Brooks came across in the beginning as such a lecherous player that I struggled to read the book, until that perception disappeared. This was a nice romance.

I was introduced to the character Brooks in book 2 of the Billionaire Beach romance series when he helps his friend Zack. I love that this series can be read in any order, but all the characters from the previous books are mentioned through out so the reader can still continue reading about them.

Brooks meets attractive social worker Sydnee when he goes into town, but when she dismisses his advances he's even more intrigued with her. Brooks knows his attractive and fun and isn't use to women dismissing him. Sydnee is in town for one thing-to help the orphanage children and she doesn't want some hot guy getting in her way and distracting her.

It was so fun to read more about Zack and Madeline's story from book 2, as well as get to know Brooks alot more in this story and why he has a hard time opening up to women and have a serious relationship.

This story made me laugh and had a great plot with adventure and clean romance. I read this book in one night because I didn't want to stop. I can't wait to read more of the series! I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

It was really short, and you were just settling into the story and characters and it was over... Not quite novella short, but far shorter than a regular novel. It definitely could have used some more "fattening up" of the entire plot, the characters and the - really the whole thing. I didn't feel like I really got a good sense of any of it, and then it was just done.

It could have been a good story, but there wasn't enough to judge that!

My only gripe (other than being too short and not developed enough to get involved) is that it brought religion into it, without being classified as a "Christian Romance." As a complete and total Athiest, this really pissed me off. I don't want to have every other sentence be "such a good Christian Girl" or "A good Christian boy wouldn't do that" - don't say something about how good or not good of a Christian they are. It's extremely annoying if you don't advertise this as being a Christian romance. Those of us that are against religion do not want to read about it!

A Story Based on Sexist Coercion...Don't Waste Your Time

In what modern world is okay for a man to think he:
"has the power to toy with her"
"didn't know if he was going to focus on teaching her a lesson or convincing her to like him, but either way he was going to have fun"'
The h was going on a weekend trip with him "whether she liked it or not".
Someone who threatens to stop funding an orphanage if the h won't go away with him for a weekend. And her boss makes it clear that she does or it's her job.

The author writes this monster as a 'Christian', but his thoughts and actions toward the h only make him a predator who thinks he can have any woman he wants. The h isn't any better with her racy thoughts of him in her mind, but a verbal abuser to his face.

This is a ridiculous story of which I couldn't bear to read any more than 35%.

Sydnee Lee Swenson, an Alabaman woman, isn't impressed with the wealthy and charming playboy Brooks Hoffman. She volunteers at the same orphanage he donates to extensively. When danger threatens her and the children, he steps in to protect them.

Combining the "Religious Mysteries" and "Religious Romance" genres has resulted in a marvelous tale. While he's breaking down her walls, she's doing the same to him. Ultimately, the story ends in a breathtaking style.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Romantic. Scary. Tragic. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

Facing his fears

I loved how Maddie refused to take Brooks' flirting seriously and made him peel back his defensive layers and show her his authentic self. Brooks was a big gruff flirt, always skimming the surface of relationships with women. Until Sydnee. With Sydnee he had to confront his perceptions about his past and the way he projected that onto the children at the orphanage he funded.

I purchased a copy of this story in a collection boxset and voluntarily chose to share my review.

I love that Brooks from Caribbean Rescue got his own story. He is a very wealthy playboy that needed to settle down. Sydnee, who is a little spitfire gives him a run for his money and is constantly putting him in his place, I love it cause that's how I am hahaha. Cami always pulls you into her books and you find yourself falling in love with the characters this one is no different! Awesome read for sure by my favorite Author!

Too boring

I just detested the fmc and, actually the mmc too. The repetitive inner monologue about her not being a ho but a good southern girl, was just too much and I just detested her even more for being a judgemental prude. Who wants to read about an annoying prude and a playboy with commitment issues. The human trafficking part was interesting but not enough to keep me hooked.

Narration by Jakobi Diem was the best part of this book, still I had to listen to it at 2,75x speed so it would finish quickly.

This perfect beach romance has some suspense thrown it just to keep it exciting. I was glad I read Caribbean Rescue first since this has references to the events that took place it that book. I really liked Brooks' strength and vulnerability. I loved Sydnee's spunk. Great characters with a fun story.

I liked the setting of the book and the fact that the story was intertwined with the characters from book 1, but I wasn't a fan of the leading man. He was far too controlling and arrogant for my taste. I also don't like how the leading lady seems to question herself all the time after setting up boundaries that were very reasonable. That being said, the book was a bit cheesy but cute nonetheless.

Cami Checketts is a master at creating heroes that you can’t help falling in love with. I’ve been looking forward to learning more about the ultra cocky Brooks and Sydnee is the perfect person for him. Romance, humor, danger, evil and tough conversations, what more could you want. I know I will fall in love with more of Ms. Checketts’ heroes but for now I will just sigh over Brooks.

This story is more about the people. There is a little suspense and I prefer more suspense. This reveals more of Brooks' tough background and how he worked to overcome it. His romance with Sydnee was on a rough road and the story shows them working through their issues. Good story.

Enjoyable read with interesting characters. Brooks grows on you the more his character is revealed. Sydnee rather quickly jumps to conclusions about Brooks. Seeing him with Zack’s family opens her eyes to more of his real persona. Romance and suspense in an entertaining story.
