A family that Lies.

The scandals were endless. The lies where everywhere but a message was told in this book. This book exposed hypocrisy in every form and misplaced anger on so many levels. I do not give spoilers so you have to read it f or yourself.

"The Family that Lies" by Lakisha Johnson & LaQuisha Rucker

My Thoughts....

What a story of how lies, lies and more lies did affect this family and those around them. This was definitely a page turner that had a little bit of it all from 'lies, secrets, now who was the babies daddy, murderous first lady' to twist and turns and then you will have one heck of a story. What was so sad about all of this was that the one person in this play was not only the father but the pastor. All I will say is that there will be one survivor that will come out of this emotional mess. Wow, what a read that will leave you shaking you head and saying what a read!

Y'all should read this. It is very good!!

This was a very very good story. Omg my heart aches at some of the things that went on in this book. These sisters here!!!. It took a lot for Mercy to forgive Grace. Grace was the two gooder that never did anything wrong!! Sike!! She was sneaky and her deeds caught up to her but she didn't deserve the things that happened to her.. I'm glad that Mercy did get her happiness though!!.

The family that lies was the perfect title for this book because everybody and they mama was lying! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yall, ive been wanting to tap into Christian Fiction for a while … the author reached out and sent me 4 of her Christian Fiction novels. I was excited to pick this one up, though I did not know what to expect.

I thank the author for putting in her author’s note that there will be some cursing throughout the novel… but we also got some prayers too. Balance!!! 😆 This was the most lying, scandalous book I’ve ever read. Think Green Leaf meets Done in the Dark, A hot LYING mess. But soooo good, so juicy, and such a quick read. I ate this book up in 24 hrs. This book is for my urban fiction girlies for sure. I think if you’re into Urban fiction, you would appreciate this one more than our contemporary fiction girlies.

Highly recommend and if you have KU you can download it right now and read it. Then jump in my DM’s so we can talk about Merci and Grayce. I cannot wait to read the other books she sent. I know I’m in for a good time. 🤏🏽

Yessss!

Yes, yes, yes! The betrayal, lies, and heartache had me so wrapped up in this book. I love how this Author takes life situations and demonstrates how God’s grace and mercy carries us through the times when we just want to give up and especially through heartache, and even death. I especially loves how Grayce left specific details for Merci before her “end”. Great read!

What you do in the dark....

Always comes to light. It sounds so cliche but it's true... even in books.

The Anderson family was interesting to say the least. I had mixed feelings about each sister that kinda flip flopped back and forth throughout the story but my feelings on their parents never changed. They were HORRIBLE and weak.

All in all it was a good read.

My name is K Sherrie,
And I recommend this read.

This book is an automatic page turner. My point of view on the theme is that family lies negatively affects a family as a whole. It is filled with betrayal, lies, and sex. The characters are well developed, so there will not be any confusion.

There are a series of drama that occurs in this novel that will make you not want to put the book down.

——————
PLOT:

Merci and Grayce are sisters that grew up in a Christian household. Grayce was considered the saint in the eyes of her parents and Merci was the sinner. They had a strong bond until Merci decided to leave at the age of 17 because of the physical and mental abuse she was receiving from her family.

11 years later, Grayce appears at Merci’s doorstep to get away from her controlling Christian parents and to rekindle their sisterhood. Mending their relationship wasn’t easy since Merci wasn’t so forgiving, but she eventually forgives her little sister once Grayce sincerely apologizes. Plus, she felt like God wants her to forgive her sister so she can move on with her life.

Grayce isn’t the daughter her parents thinks she is. A life changing event occurs that opens the flood gates of heaven and the truths are officially revealed, causing the table to make a complete 180.

———————

The author was not afraid to speak about the hypocrisy within religion. Merci didn’t flinch to let her Christian parents know how fake they are behind the pulpit and point out their sins like they do to her. My favorite character was Thomas. I like his development and how supportive he was in the book. I also enjoyed his prayers.

Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely, however there are some questions from book one that are unanswered. I hope she answers them in book two.

The Family That Lies reminded me exactly why Lakisha Johnson and LaQuisha Rucker stay on my must-read list. They know how to deliver just enough Jesus, just enough drama, and just enough plot twist to keep your heart in a chokehold from beginning to end. This book is Christian fiction, but it is also incredibly real — these characters are flawed, wounded, struggling, and trying their best to navigate the consequences of secrets that should’ve never been buried.

Merci and Grayce’s story broke me open. Two sisters navigating the fallout of a deeply fractured family, trying to love each other through resentment, hurt, and a history they didn’t create. Their father — a pastor — favors one child and openly despises the other, all because of a secret that no child should ever be punished for. The emotional weight of that alone had me angry one chapter and holding back tears the next.

Every lie, every hidden sin, every “behind closed doors” moment comes rushing into the light, and the unraveling is powerful. What happens in this family is heartbreaking, but also painfully believable. The authors don’t shy away from the lasting impact of emotional and spiritual wounds — especially those inflicted by the people meant to protect you.

But what I loved most is how Johnson and Rucker weave in forgiveness, grace, and the healing power of God without ever making it feel forced or preachy. This is a story about the damage secrets can cause, but also about the courage it takes to confront the truth and choose healing.

By the final chapters, I was fully invested in every messy, human, emotional moment.

Grayce and Merci Alexander were close growing up, but for some unknown reason, their parents prefer one sister over the other. Years later, and it seems as if the situation has gotten worse. Grayce can do no wrong, while Merci is the demon spawn child; and it's starting to affect their relationship.

Merci had decided to match by the best of her own drum, and doesn't mind standing up to her parents. Whereas, Grayce hides behind her many secrets UNTIL, she decided to stand up to her parents. Little did the sisters know, the root of the problem has absolutely nothing took do with them.

My favorite character was Thomas. From the beginning, he stood in the gap (without being asked) and finally took control of the situation. He was a stand up guy that you don't come across every day. My least favorite character was Melvin. The good pastor 's life was contradictory to the word that he preached from the pulpit. His controlling and egotistical ways made him so ugly.

This was my introduction to @kishajohnson and her sister, and I am looking forward to reading more. I believe in timing, so I'll just say that it was the appointed time for me to receive the importance of forgiveness, healing, love, sisterhood and faith. I highly recommend this book.

The Family that lies

This book was exhilarating, dramatic and full of suspense. It's a story about a pastor and his family. They have 2 daughter's Grayce and Merci , their father treated Grayce like a queen and Merci like nobody. He beat Merci so bad because he came home and see a boy leaving his home. She pack leave stay in a run down motel for 3 days until college began. When Grayce was tired of her father treatment she went to live with her sister Merci who took her in although she lie and never tell the truth about her boyfriends. Grayce sleep with Shaun who she portrait as her boyfriend but was gay. Grayce was sleeping with youth pastor Derrick who was Shaun father she got pregnant never know if it was for uncle Warren or Derrick . Anyways Derricks wife sister who work with the doctor Grayce went so that where the stalking began. Derricks wife kill her husband then went to Merci,s home and beat Grayce . She was taken to hospital where the twins babies where alright until 1 died which was a boy , baby girl made it but baby boy and Grayce buried together. This was a story when read you think twice i hope young reader will get to read. Love this book

Outstanding read, this was my first book by this author and I doubt it will be my last.
Everyone tells a lie at some point in their life, no one is perfect. There are many reasons one might tell a lie. Liars have made a choice to tell the lie they are telling and perfect the work it takes to keep them.
Merci Alexander is a down to earth smart sister with her own home and a successful career, but in the relationship department she’s not doing so well. At age fourteen something fractured her relationship with her parents and she was no longer the apple of Pastor Alexander eyes.

Her sister Grayce, is a teacher and currently living with her sister Merci. Her story is a little different she is what some would call the good daughter, the one who can do no wrong, the apple of her father’s eyes. But is she wrong? Has she been living a lie as her sister seems to think the whole family is. Something is going on in this family and the only person who seems to think something fowl is going on is Merci.

This is a story of the Alexander family no standing in their truth and continuing to live in the lies.

Wow! Fast paced read, and there was so much going on in this story, good lawd! Merci, has to be one of the strongest people out there! The way her parents treated her, and how her sister allowed her to be treated was just horrible! Even with all of this, she still allowed her sister to come and stay with her. Whew, she is better than me! 😃 I'm still trying to figure out why Grayce behaved the way she did behind closed doors, and allowed her parents to put her on a pedestal. She was really something else, but I have a feeling there was a reason for it. Thomas was a godsend! Meeting Merci and being there for her through all of that drama, made him bae! They were so good for each other. So glad that she found a real love. Ma'am the prayers in this story really touched me. Like hit something deep! Had to copy and save to reread later. Looking forward to the next book to hopefully answer some lingering questions. Great read!👍👍👍

Awesome Read

Since this is my second novel from this particular author I went into this with pretty high expectations and this author surely did not disappoint. The story was very captivating and it was like a mental maze full of unique twist and turns but it all fit together seamlessly. The novel gives you all the elements that you could expect from Christian fiction. However, in addition, it was drama filled but in a very relatable way. It also had the underlying theme of finding one’s purpose and identity. It was like a happily ever after without the fairytales, rainbows, and unicorns. I highly recommend this novel and any other novel this author writes if you want an enlightened, inspired, and thoroughly entertained.

There's an old saying of what's done in the dark will surface to the light. Yet, people continue to serenade lies better than telling truths because of sparring feelings. It's interesting because there's another saying called, "keeping it 100," and that is becoming obsolete. However, when telling the truth, people still harshly ridicule. So it is a complex situation of damned if you do -vs- damned if you don't. The Family that Lies is solemnly based on how untruthfulness brews hatred that is eventually condemned, but the catastrophe lurking behind the consequences of the lies devastates the family even more...(click link to read the rest of the review: https://www.readerslearn.com/blog-lif... )

1st time reader lifetime fan

The lies you tell will always catch up with you.Pastor Melvin what a cruel heartless sob let the sins of his wife destroy life and relationship of an innocent girl. He will reap what he sowed. All men and women that proclaim to be of God are not without sin. Such a hypocrite he had more skeletons in is closet than the graveyard. So glad Merci was able to allow a beautiful man to come in a love all her broken pieces.Thank you for being such a great storyteller

Saved by Merci!

This is my 3rd read from Author. I couldn't put this book down in fear I might not be able to pick back up! To say I wish there were a part 2 would be selfish, lol.. I can't tell you or express how the characters made me feel apart of them as if they were real family. I enjoyed Merck's character so much that I found a lot of me in her as well as Grayce. This book have me pondering a lot on beliefs and the way families keep to any secrets!!!

Lord have Merci and the Lord had Merci!!

This family had so many secrets of sin and resentment . This book was a wonderful read there was the blood of God on every page . I can feel the faith in this book with every prayer. I'm so glad Merci found someone to love her and for her flaws and all. Sad about Grayce and baby Ethan. After a while I figured Warren was Grayce's father and he had slept with her mom.

Great read!!

This book had me in tears especially towards the end. Great show of spiritual faith. I guessed the secret at the end of why her dad treated her so cruel before you told it. But putting that spin on it with both spouses was the utilmate betrayal. Can't wait to read another one of your books. They had my praising God one hand, crying, and saying oh my where is my Boaz, lol.

Great Read

I see so much of myself in Gracye from having an affair and baby with a married man. And, the lack of parental guidance after informing that I was sexually abused by the only man I knew as then a father figure and financial provider for my siblings, mother and I . However having Merci’s strength and spiritual growth I am trusting God to lead me and guide me to ensure the curse of loving a married man is not imposed onto my daughter.

This book is very touching! I have reconciled my life to the Lord! Yes, through prayer and the Bible verses my faith has been reawaken. After being placed on pause! So many emotions so many tears! Through this story the Holy Spirit spoke to me! Your writing is amazing! Your true gift!!! Keep writing because if it touched me it will touch many more! Thank you my sister in Christ!

The sins of our parents

I'm going to start this off by saying this just because a person is a Christian it doesn't mean they aren't human. This book is a Christian fiction book but it is also real. The characters in this book were not perfect. There was plenty of secrets to cover up the lies and adultery. Everything that was done in the dark came out in the light. This story will play with your emotions. I was angry one minute and had tears falling the next.

Good book

So much happened in this book in what seemed like a short period of time. Merci is my favorite so far. Too much drama going on with this family. I would recommend this book to readers who love to ready about deep dark secrets with dysfunctional family especially with a religious one. I’m ready to read Part 2 to see what other challenges that Merci is about to face and how she handles them.

This book reminds you of an episode of Jerry Springer where you know it’s a train wreck but you just can’t turn away because you really want to know what happens next. There is nothing but lies and twists in this book. The only truth is the two girls are sisters. You will feel bad for them, want to slap them both and the parents, and even question yourself as to why you are really reading this. Was it worth the read, the only thing I can say is maybe 🤔
