The sudden death of an alcoholic, lying and manipulative mother sets off a chain of events that forces two worlds to eventually collide, releasing secrets and pain that could change lives for everyone involved. Janice Williams is finally living the life that she’s always dreamed. A respected dean of a university, with an adoring husband, she is finally happy -- except for the hole in her heart that remains from a long ago tragedy. Nicole Henry is enjoying the carefree life of a college student, until her adoptive parents announce they’re divorcing and tapped out financially. Desperate, Nicole is forced to turn to one of her professors, unaware that Jeffrey Larson (aka Lars) is running his own masterful game – one seeking a vengeance that will draw both women into his world.
It's crazy to think how two worlds collided together by one insanely perverted person. Janice and Nicole both got trapped by Lars but I'm glad Nicole was able to be saved before too much damage was done. I was shocked with her actions that she took towards the end but everyone handles trauma differently. I was grateful that it appeared Janice finally received her closure and could move on in peace. At times, I was struggling with confusion but I think it's justified in the overall flow of the storyline. Overall, it was a quick read for a lazy afternoon.
I hate to give any author a bad review because it takes a lot to not only write a book but to get it published ... so for that accomplishment I give kudos to the author.
Otherwise (my opinion) this story was disjointed in so many areas. So aspects were resolved with no explanation and some aspects of the story didn’t fit together. But again. The effort was there.
This book was all over the place. It started off well but then the wheels fell off. Janice hated her mother for how she treated her. Then her mother dies and she sees Lars at the cemetery. We learn that Lars is a professor who was a pimp at night. He pimped out Janice and she thought she had gotten out of his clutches. There were all these bible references thrown in, long lost daughters.
I did enjoy this book. I just feel like the author left too much to be desired. She could have talked more about why Gladys was so cruel to Janice. Also the ending wasn't what I expected. I feel like she set it up for a second part, but the book was written a few years ago.
**Audiobook Review** This book sounded interesting so I decided to try it. Glad I did. It was Pretty good. I enjoyed the storyline and the suspense. The narrator was ok also. It kept my attention. All I will say is that Lars was something else. Glad I have this author a chance.
This was a good book with a lot of plot twists and character development. I felt like I knew and understood the main characters perspective and there appears to have been room left for a sequel.
I would recommend this to read. It really makes you think and I can truly relate to some of the issues in my life. Can't wait for the next one. God bless your heart and mind to prosper!
