Although he genuinely cares for Ansley, Davis finds that old habits die-hard and himself on a familiar path. Just as Ansley and Davis settle into their blossoming relationship, sins from his past return like an old mistress out for revenge, igniting the flames of tragedy, which threaten to engulf them both.
Michelle Mitchell has always been creative; the builder of play forts, and the writer of numerous songs that she hoped to hear on the radio. She always enjoyed singing, dancing, reading and writing. One of her dreams was to be a backup dancer for Janet Jackson, but when that didn’t happen, she continued to focus on songwriting. She knew she could shine brightest if she could work in a field where she could create, but she had an awkward start in finding her voice.
A Georgia native, Michelle attended Georgia Southern University where she majored in Communication Arts and minored in Journalism. After graduating, she had a short stint as a feature writing before returning to school and entering corporate America. Needing a creative outlet in between courses, Michelle got inspired and began working on her first novel, Truth Is....
In December 2015, Brown Girls Books put out a call for submissions for an anthology called, The Ex Chronicles. Michelle's submission was selected out of the 300 submissions received. The anthology was published March 8, and would be her first published work. Truth Is... will be her second published manuscript.
When she’s not writing, she enjoys trying new restaurants, traveling, and reading. Michelle is a die-hard fanatic of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Hawks. She still resides in Georgia, where she is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Marietta. You can write her at authormichellemitchell@gmail.com.
I'm often asked what type of books do I like to read and this is one of them. I enjoy a good story that is well-written with unexpected turns of events. A story with good writing where you can see the creativity in the intricate detailed descriptions, and a story that conveys moral messages to its readers. This book did it all for me. A+
This is a story about Ansley, who is seeking to become a successful writer in the city of Atlanta. In her endeavors, she leaves behind her college sweetheart, Ryan to pursue her dreams. She meets Davis Montgomery, a good-looking, smooth-talker, and a romantic. He seems almost perfect, but is it too good to be TRUE? Ansley finds herself caught up in a love triangle with Davis and her best friend, Simeon. Will she choose Davis over her troubled best friend? The TRUTH IS... you have to read the book to find out. There is far more to Davis than meets the eye. When it comes to matters of the heart, sometimes we have to use our brain and not follow our emotions or the decisions we make could hurt us for the rest of our lives.
This is my first time reading a book by Michelle Mitchell, and it's been a long time since a story evoked this much emotion in me. I cried for both Simeon and Ansley, and wanted to choke Davis. Michelle did a good job, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. Good storytelling still exists, and Michelle proves that!
This book... Geez... Where do I even begin?? First off, as soon as Simeon acted a fool with me over a man, I would have left her where I find her. Five months of friendship ain't long enough to deal with that mess. As for Davis, the scammer, the minute he wouldn't answer questions about his involvement with my best friend is the last day he would have seen my face. Ansley was smart, determined, and kind hearted. She really beat herself up in the end but I think it was for the wrong reason. She took things slow but she ignored all the warning signs to enter into an already jacked up situation with him. I'm glad that in the end, she found her own piece of happiness in spite of it all. Lastly, thank you Simeon for handling Davis. Men like him everywhere should take note that playing around with women's hearts can cost them the ultimate price. Starting towards the middle, I was in constant suspense of what was going to happen next and I love the guessing game. I believe I read the majority of this book in one setting as I enjoyed the flow of the storyline. This is my first time reading from this author but it won't be my last.
This is an awesome book. I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Even though I wanted to smack Ansley. There are times when a woman will meet a man that is so irresistible and falls head over heels. I would love to read about Ansley and Ryan.
I don't know what to say about this book. I can honestly say that most if this book made me angry. Ansley seemed selfish and dumb. Simeon seemed the same way but her behavior made more sense when I found out she was bipolar and had a horrible father. I gave it four stars because even though I hated almost all of the decisions the characters made this book definitely made me feel something. The book was well written though I did find a couple of mistakes the editor missed. I will have to read another story to see if I like this author or not.
The book was really good. It kept me wanting to read to see what was going to happen next. Great suspense book. I recommend others read. Ansley was a great friend to Simeon in the book even though I didn't agree with how they both carried on a relationship with Monty. Overall great read. Wonder will there be a book 2🤗
I thought this book was fantastic. All the characters were interesting. Ansley was a little dense for not listening to her best friend regarding Davis. Two different names, sleeping with my bestie, what more do you need? I hope there's a part two. A must read.
This book had my attention the whole way through....I couldn’t stop reading it (even read it in the middle of the night). Only thing I didn’t like is how early on it was revealed that Ansley and Simeon were interested in the same guy. Loved the ending!♥️
I didn't like the fact the the two friends were dating the same guy but loved the ending when she ended up with her true love from college . It makes you believe that you may have to make a few mistakes to get back to the one you were supposed to be with all along.
She rose to her feet. “I hoped that you wanted to apologize and have a clear conscious, but that’s something a mature man would do and not a little boy still living street dreams.” Ansley eyed Davis for a moment before saying, “I wish you well.”
Where to start??? Oh my goodness, men like Davis are the reason why the television show Snapped was created. Sure, someone could argue that this a work of fiction, but there are plenty of Davis’ in the real word. Mitchell has done an excellent job of portraying just how naive some women can be when they see the warning signs but choose the ignore them in her main female character, Ansley. There is a life lesson that we all know but was reminded of while reading this book: Don’t be so desperate to have someone in your life that just because someone looks good and/or says all of the right things that we overlook the fact that they are not any good for you.
He released her hand. “And what Ansley? Things happen Ansley. No one is perfect, but you’re my well-constructed, God-sent, image of perfection. You’re the one I compared others too. You’re the perfect person for me and I’m not letting another moment pass without us working this out. Now are you ready to stop running?”
Love, that is what this book boils down to. Learning to love yourself enough to know that you will need to leave some people in your past no matter how much it might hurt or your level of embarrassment. Learning that sister-friend love is essential and that you can trust your girlfriends with your innermost thoughts and feelings and that they will help you make it to the other side. And, then there is romantic love. We must believe that there is someone out there in this world that will love and accept us flaws and all. All three of these types of love are found in Truth Is…and that is what makes it a very entertaining book to read.
Michelle Mitchell is a fairly new author and it is my prediction that she will have a bright future in the literary world!
Truth is.....I had been waiting on the release of this book. Truth is....it was well worth the wait! Truth is.....Michelle Mitchell did an awesome job with this story....from the development of the characters to the development of the plot (and oh how the plot thickens). Truth is....two idioms were present in this story.... Lying is never a good thing, even when we think we have mastered the art of it or when we try to justify our reasoning for doing it in the first place (oh, what a tangled web we weave) and Truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it (don't go through life looking with a blind eye). Truth is.....I was captivated from start to finish.
This the first for me from this author and I really enjoyed reading this book. It speaks of truth, betrayal, awareness and faith of testament of friendship. It brings awareness to mental health and the fact that we should be aware of our encounters with the people we may choose as our partners. It is truly a happy ever after and that you should really appreciate life. I really would recommend this to everyone and will definitely look forward to reading from this author again.
You going to want to jump in this book and choke Ansley!!!! You're going to scream at her several times!!! You're going to call her names!!! You're going to roll your eyes!!!! This book will take you there!!! Be prepared to ride this rollercoaster with the most craziest twists and drops..... It'll make you lose your mind!!!!!
“Truth IS” is a captivating, realistic page-turner. It’s the story of a young professional woman who falls for the very intriguing, Adonis. Although some "tell-tale” signs were there, she ignored them. She soon learns that he has been living a double life. A life of crime, past sins, and indiscretions that will affect her the rest of her life. The author created a relatable storyline and left the readers with a valuable lesson. I enjoyed the book. I do think that some of the chapters were short, but I look forward to reading more from this author. I give this book 4.5 stars based on the Regal Sisterhood Book Club Review Standards. ~Andrea Bollin - Regal Sisterhood Book Club (A copy of this book was provided by the author for review purposes.)

Another excellent authoress added to my list of must reads!
The book was very well written--no typos to be found. I must say the story kept me intrigued from beginning to end. Fantastic storyline based on love lost, costly mistakes, and a giant life learning curve. If you are looking for clean moralistic reading, I highly recommend this book
The book started off great, but then it got really drawn out, it became extremely dramatic (not in a good way) and the grammatical errors became more frequent. The more dramatic the book got, the more all over the place it seemed. I felt like the author tried to add multiple plots and climaxes after the initial plot and climax had already occurred.
I was sort of torn in this one. I enjoyed the multiple storylines in the book. Two friends unknowingly involved with the same man. The ensuing drama between said friends. The Simeon/Monty saga vs the Ansley/Davis saga. The devotion that Ryan had for Ansley. But the plot was a little shifty. Transitions weren’t smooth. And some parts seemed to be packaged a little to nicely, which seemed unrealistic to me. The basic themes: love, friendship, betrayal, forgiveness, were all great tie-ins, but at times not executed well. I’m glad the author addresses certain hot-button issues: mental illness, STDs, along with the victim blaming that women sometimes to do each other when a woman reveals her story of abuse, mistreatment, etc., I do think Ms. Mitchell did a great job of incorporating them into the story. I love Ansley...her spirit and her character was refreshing. And Davis made me wanna fight his behind! Good character development. I was really torn between a 3 and a 4 on this one. This is my first read by this author, but I will read others.
I liked the bond between these three young women especially when the crisis occurred. I disliked the fact that Monty was not killed by his cousin Beau that would have been a better ending for his lies and deceit
Truth Is was way more O had expected. The story line was great and the characters were wonderful. I would had the ending a little more in details like what went on with the other characters. I could see in the future a part two to Truth Is...
This book was so good. I.couldn't put it down. This was my first time reading a book by this author, but it will definitely not be my last time. Great book.
I chose a 4 star rating because of the editing errors. But I really enjoyed the story. Some places in the story were surprises. Some were predictable. Overall, this author touched on serious subjects.
My very first read by the author and I really enjoyed it. This book dealt with how one man's lying, deceitful and con artist ways affected the lives of several woman both physically and mentally. Davis/Montgomery is definitely the devil in disguise. Glad Ansley and Ryan were able to rekindle their relationship.
I loved the relationships, the individuality, the simplicity and the duplicity of the book. The best of what I want and what I need. Ms Mitchell has the unique ability to take a situation/relationship that seems doomed, only to be repaired stronger than ever.
Ansley was soooo naïve to the point of having to be robbed by Davis and she still wouldn't believe what was right in front of her face. Friends who are foes was a critical aspect of this story
Where do I begin with this book? All the characters except for Ryan and Lanae worked my last nerve! I don't want to reveal anything in the book because I want readers to be taken by surprise as I was. So let me just say this: you will definitely read this book from start to finish very quickly because you want to see just how long Simeon and Ansley will act a damn fool over a boy (yes BOY not man because a man wouldn't do the crap Montgomery did).
The fact that I was yelling out loud to these characters that don't even exist in real life means the author did her job well. I even grew to understand Simeon better and felt sorry for her in the end. You could definitely have some lively discussions over these characters in a book club.
