Jonah Burke is excited when he meets up with an old classmate of his, Davie Harrison, at the police station where he works. He's much less delighted when he realizes said classmate is dating an infamously violent criminal that is always in and out of jail. While trying to help protect Davie, Jonah also has to contend with a family who has refused to speak to him since he came out, an ex-girlfriend-turned-bestie, and a partner who doesn't understand why Jonah could ever want to date someone other than him. Along the way, Jonah starts to realize that maybe being the perpetual hero isn't all it's cracked up to be.

There was this book where all I remembered was the MC being a cop who got harassed by his partner. I've been looking for this book for ages, but just couldn't remember which book it was. And now I accidentally stumbled across it when I decided to re-read this one.

The epic showdown with the harassing partner was not as epic as I made it up to be in my head, but I was still happy to see he got what was coming to him.

The rest of this book was pretty good. Except this time the ex girlfriend turned roommate really annoyed me. I thought Jonah was being way too nice to her when she suddenly acted all jealous while she was always supportive of Jonah before.

And can I say that this cover is one of the most terrible covers I've seen in a while. It looks like a hardcore BDSM book with two muscular alpha dudes. It's not. Jonah is a cop and Davie is described as a small twink. And no BDSM anywhere to be found, so what's with the chain????

I was in hurt/comfort heaven with this one. And the writing was better than I expected.

One thing that could have been better was the relationship itself. The author put a lot of time in to the build-up and the friendship, but not in the romantic part. I felt as if that could have used a bit more page time.

We had the hurt, we had the comfort, we had the friendship, but then we got the I love yous and the sex all at once. And after that it was like the author decided that they’re together now so he could stop having them try.

So overall a good story, but the romantic side of the relationship could have been a bit better.

Let me be honest. I picked up this book on a whim and thought it was flawed but on the strength of one character I can say I truly enjoyed it. Davie was fascinating. So I’ve decided that I’m going to have to revisit this author very very soon.

I received an ARC from the author.
Jonah is a cop who grew up protecting other kids from bullies. Jonah is still living with his former girlfriend even though they’ve broken up. He meets Davie at the police station when Davie comes to get (Jason) his boyfriend after he’s been arrested. Davie grew up the poorest kid in school and learned to read people in order to diffuse tense situations. These survival skills are used daily living with his boyfriend. When Jason loses control again, things escalate! Then Jonah and Davie turn to each other…but will the jealousy of others, and fear on Davies part, keep them from trusting each other? Definitely an answer you’ll want to get!

Jonah & Davie met in high school. Jonah always stood up for Davie, as he was bullied a lot. Being different apparently makes you a target.

Davie, never thought he was worth anything. Never really had love. So when Jonah tells him he is amazing and perfect. He has always believed in him.

This is a sweet and almost bittersweet story. These characters are fun to read about and the character development is like a prize. This was definitely worth the read.

Another great feel good story by Peter Styles.

It's so sad that some people are treated so cruelly by society. Emotional and physical abuse takes such a toll on the human spirit. It was a small light in an otherwise tragic existence of Davey's life that his two high school champions reconnected with him in his hour of need and gave him a safe place to live and the encouragement to see himself as a worthy human being.
The love and support of Jonah lead to the HEA for these two deserving men.

The book blurb states it better than I ever good.......
************************************************************
First of all I have to say I loved this book! It was great and "Save Me" hit all my buttons: it made me sad, mad and happy; all through out the book.
Yes the book blurb states it better than I ever could but this book was so much more than that to me. We have Jonah, a cop, with an innate need to help, runs into an old high school graduate, in less than idea circumstances; Davie, a victim of abuse. Naturally Jonah wants more than ever to help Davie out of this abusive relationship but as one would have it Davie, says "all if fine" and "denies" abuse. Very frustrating; I wanted Jonah to kidnapped Davie; and keep him safe. However, as a victim of abuse, most have very low esteem and self worth. Oh, this was so good. Jonah and Davie started out becoming friends, Jonah wanted so much more but he had patience for Davie. It took one event at the diner to convince Davie that Jonah was right. I am not going to say anymore but this was a great story.Lots of plots, lots of angst and of course; the HEA. I love the way Peter writes: his sentence structure. his word usage, his imagination in his details and background in "Save Me".
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting an entertaining and emotionally satisfying read. An awesome read!

Jonah, a police officer with a saviour complex, becomes romantically involved with an ex classmate who is escaping a seriously abusive relationship. Jonah has recently acknowledged his homosexuality to himself and his family. He has been rejected by his family and finds himself still emotionally enmeshed with his former Girlfriend though she has accepted his sexuality and the end of their relationship. Peter Styles writes very well that even when the subject matter is tough, I tend to keep reading. His style is easy, his grammar always on point and his punctuation far superior to anything I could produce.
Having said that, his books tend to front load very compelling, elaborately fleshed out plot lines, that then drop off abruptly at the end. Save Me fits this mold. It tried to wrap up a very weighty estrangement between Jonah and his family simply by a rehashing of Davie's horrific lifetime of abuse. I am almost certain most people would not reveal their trauma to perfect strangers in a Yoghurt shop but...
I loved the concept of Davie finding love with Jonah after a lifetime of physical, sexual and emotional abuse. I was, however, taken aback at how easily the subject was dealt with. The glossing over in both Davie's mind and the story line was odd. Jonah was fairly one dimensional as a character and seemed to have no outlet other than an exGF turned BFF, once he acknowledged his sexuality. Overall a worthy if not amazing 3.5 star read.

What can I say about this book???? Hmm it was a beautifully written story about a guy who always dreamed of being a hero when he was a young child. He didn't like bullying so he did his best to help those who could not defend themselves all through school. He even became a police officer just so he can continue on with his "save the world" self. Jonah Burke. What Jonah never realized while he was saving all of these people was that he actually needed saving himself. He was with the same woman since grade school, Carrie and even engaged to be married to her. After finally coming out and breaking off the engagement, the two remained friends and continued to live together. His parents disowned him after he came out so she was all he had. Enter Davie Harrison, the poor kids Jonah went to school with and kept bullies away from. Jonah realized he has always felt something for Davie and now seeing him has opened up memories that he wants to act on. However Davie has a partner that Jonah sees in jail on a weekly basis. Knowing Davie is with a bad guy, can Jonah save him without losing him in the process?

Truly one of the best books I've read so far from this author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book and believe me it's truly a must read.

Jonah and Davie are two pieces that truly fit together. Both are missing something of themselves, for different reasons. Jonah's missing piece is somewhat based on guilt over what he realizes he can't provide for others who are close to him, without losing himself in the process. Davie is a survivor, but never really had a strong sense of self thanks to some really bad circumstances and miserable people that he wasn't in a position to escape, particularly after patterns of behavior had become too set to allow him to leave everything behind. Jonah and Davie each find their long-awaited sense of self with the help of the other, despite (or maybe because of) some trials, tribulations, and very human emotions along the way to their happy ending. Carrie stymies me just a bit - I find myself wondering if she's a product of her issues or if she is the strongest woman ever. Regardless, she is full of heart and is the friend we all want to have. I will definitely keep this book on my list of stories to read again and again. This is an honest and voluntary review of an advanced copy of this book.

“A kiss is a kiss is a kiss… but in that moment, my world exploded.”
I loved this. Jonah and Davie are such a beautiful complement to each other that I couldn’t get enough of the simmering tension between them. Jonah’s protective instincts, honed from a childhood desire to be a hero, are on full alert when he crosses paths with Davie, whose life has taken a distinct downturn since he was a bullied high school student. This isn’t a simple case of hero saves the day though, these two men elevate each other until it’s crystal clear that they are better for being together. This book put me through the wringer in so many ways, with Davie’s self loathing and despair choking me up, Jonah’s conflicted relationship with his family making me shake my head, and watching Davie blossom as he slowly absorbed that he was finally safe leaving me ready to burst with pride for him. Such a beautifully hopeful love story.

Just wow

Its always hard to read when someone is being abused. Davie was obviously abused. I want to judge all the people who were around him. Why didn't they do something? However Davie was a smart kid. He didn't let people know. I was really rooting for him and Jonah. Jonah is an amazing guy who wants to help people andd make everything better. Its excruciating to see him be unable to help Davie. Davie could have been killed just like his mom and Jonah couldn't do anything without Davie' help. So frustrating. I loved Katie too and I wanted a happy ending for her as well.

This story is very centered on Jonah, which is not surprising since it's his voice as the narrator. But it is somewhat disappointing because it would have been great to get to know Davie better. As it is, he only has moments of cute and sweet that tantalize the reader without allowing you to also fall for him. This author has not written poorly yet, and the streak continues. This is still a book I can endorse gladly, just not as enthusiastically as the rest in his lineup.

Great book

Found this story heartbreaking sweet and beautiful. I felt anger, sadness, hope and joy. Angry for all Davie had been thru in his life and what Jonah was experiencing in his present. Sad for Davie thinking he wasn't worth anything. Sad for Jonah being hurt by his family and sad for Carrie. Joy that Davie found his self worth and he and Jonah found love and healing together. Good book.

Jonah reminded me a lot of Steve Rogers aka Captain America. Even though he came out and broke up with his very longtime girlfriend, they were still roommates and best friends. He wanted to help everyone. While this was a romance story, it blended well into Jonah's own struggles with coming out as gay.

Ok story

Characters were cool and it was a good story but that was really it. I feel sad that a parent would ever turn there back on their child just because they're gay. It wasn't something that he did wrong to them. They should want him to be happy no matter what.
