3.5 I've had such a hard time giving this a rating and I'll say why:
I'm worried I'll give it away so won't do a brief.. however, this story did have me hooked from start to end, and ive been in a funk lately so i was thrilled to have interest in the story and the characters and what was going on with them. It was entertaining to the same level from start to finish, but..... the end didn't peak, there was no big revelation or twist, no climax of the story, no red herring. I was just a tad disappointed that such a gripping story just was what it was... I feel a little let down.
Typically I don't do scary anything but I was intrigued by my fear of this story. Strangely the more I read the more engrossed I became in finding out what was really happening to Josette. Very well written story of transitioning to the After Life and how difficult that is for some people to allow. Even when a new opportunity presents itself, the fear of the unknown is a powerful thing. Fear will cause some to cling to the past and make excuses not to move on. Well done Joy!
This wasn't anything like I expected. I thought one of the main characters would be... special, different or maybe paranormal. This is actually a story about letting go, moving on and the consequences is you've held on too much for too long. This is the dilemma the FMC faces after a devastating loss. It was only my curiosity and hope that singing romantically paranormal would happen that I finished this book. Josette got on my last nerve. Never has a FMC needed help, knew they needed it, and for it and STILL wouldn't listen. I like the writing style and the depth the author brings to the stories, but this one doesn't make my fave list.
This was an experience in paranormal that was believable. Jossett's grief and holding on to her past life with her husband was heartbreaking as well as frightening when her obsession manifested itself into a ghostly and then poltergeist experience. Happy she was able to transform and move forward with Mario with the help of her grandmother. Enjoyed the story. New fan.
Rosette and Dwayne have a great marriage until Dwayne is killed on the job. Rosette is grieving his death after three years and cuts herself off from people. Enter Mario who falls in love with her but realized her problem but how do you bring her out? Will Mario's love help her or will she follow the PHANTASM!
I thoroughly enjoyed Phantasm by Joy L. Campbell!! She did a great job with the supernatural. It wasn't a scary novel. But it was very believable. I understood where she was going. I also love the story's backdrop being in one of my favorite places, Jamaica! The ending was very good as well! Thank you, Joy for a great novel!
Great story..a huband who is hung between earth a heaven. A young woman who tragically lost her husband and finding the strength to love again. A grandmother who is wise beyond her years. This story has a young man in pursuit of healing and a love that change his life forever.
Phantasm by JL Campbell was engaging, emotional and mystical. The characters Josette, Mario, Ma Estelle and Dwayne had me locked in as I read. This story is about love, loss, knowing when to let go and when to let new love in. 👍🏾👍🏾
I loved everything about this book! I chose 5 star rating, as I didn't wanna put it down after I started reading. I dished want the book to end. I'll need to see a part 2 of this book.
Not my normal read. The three way situation between Josette, Mario and Dwayne proved to be a lot for Josette. With the support of her grandmother she was able to rid herself of Dwayne and to begin to live her life again.
What a wonderful sweet slightly scary book. What I mean to say it's a great read. The characters are great. The ghost is onttigukng and the whole just works.
I have had the opportunity to read and review several of J.L. Campbell's novellas and novels. I can tell that she stretched herself with Phantasm. The afterlife is an interesting topic to take on. Especially when one believes there is a gulf between the dead and the living. Trina and Ma Estella were interesting attributes to this story. I found Mario's patience endearing. I found Trina's loyalty refreshing. I found Ma Estella's spirit steadfast. I found Josette's commitment to love renewing. The elements of the story came together. As you recognize everyone handles loss differently and often times to get over a loss one needs those still living to love them through the pain and the mourning.
I am not usually a person who read phantom stories so this was scary and interesting all at the same time. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially those liking a bit of terror. JL Campbell's books are very entertaining and this was no different. Well done.
