Trouble at Moore Field School

Rate this book
Trouble at Moore Field School is the third book in the exciting and award-winning series for young readers.

Set in Manchester, England, the story takes off as Samantha and the gang race against time to foil the mysterious men who are still trying to steal the school's trophies.

Meanwhile, one of the ghosts in Moore's basement spots the thieves when they enter the school whilst the students are on a school trip.

Olivia finds some shocking news that will have everyone trying to secure the trophies. And her father is back, trying to make amends for his actions in the second book.

Miss Moore, the head teacher, is coming to term with the fact that her past might have something to do with everything that is going on at her school.

The first two books in the series are Moore Field School and the Mystery, and Incidents at Moore Field School.

Even though most of the trophies are recovered at the end of the trilogy, there could still be more adventures in store at Moore Field School.

Liam Moiser lives in the port town of Goole in Yorkshire, England. This is his third book.

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

This was possible one of the hardest children’s books that I’ve ever tried to read. The plot was confusing and not altogether great and the characters were badly written and characterised. The children sound exactly the same as the adults. This was a very difficult book.

This is the third book in a series so it was difficult to get into the story to start with, once I got past that, my main focus was the very poor writing. This book needs a serious check by a professional editor and some major rewriting - the text was clunky and hard going - not good for a children's book.

The story had no flow to it and the conversations between characters were stilted. For some reason, the adults talk to each other the same way the children do and they talk very casually about a fire where a number of children died - these dead children haunt the school where their friend is now head teacher.

There is a naval officer who has somehow stolen a naval vessel and given it to some criminals who are repeatedly called the 'bad guys' (even in some 'newspaper articles' at the end of the book)even though they kidnap children in their hunt for some school trophies and appear ready to commit any crime to get them. There is no character development and people have sudden changes of heart with no real cause.

The end of the book does not feel like an ending - it felt a lot more like an unsubtle build-up to a fourth book in the series.

My main issue with this book is that none of the characters seem to care what is happening or what could happen, it's hard to describe but an example section of the story will demonstrate this. A group of people (mostly children) are tied up in a shack in the woods and the main 'bad guy' is having a change of heart:

"I just wanted to finish my brother's work. I didn't want all this to happen, and now I have no idea what I can do to make it right." "You can start by untying us." Samantha was only having a laugh, and she was surprised when the old man did what she suggested.

The idea that a child would be joking whilst in a kidnap situation, makes no sense at all to me and much of the book felt like this.

There are lots of classic children's adventure books available that I would recommend instead of this, such as Enid Blyton's Famous Five.

I received a free copy of this book.

I won books one and three of this series from Library Thing.

You Must read this series in order. These are not stand alone stories.

Since I didn't read book 2, I was at a loss in what was happening in the 3rd book. The author does not update the reader in what happened in the previous books.

This was a good read. Even though I have never read any of the other books in the Moore Field School series, I didn't feel lost and confused about what was going on. This story definitely had a good story line and kept suspense while also throwing in a little humor. It was definitely fun to read!

This is a cute mystery that will entertain young readers. That being said keep in mind that this is the third in a series and you should read the first two books to get the total pleasure of the third. I received this from LibraryThing Members Giveaway.
