Orien #2

The Darkest Night

Rate this book
Trapped by her cruel father in the kingdom of Orien, Brave feels as though everyone she’s ever loved has been ripped from her hands. Her papa and the people of Ashen are still cursed, her mother may no longer be alive, and her once-caring Aras is anything but himself. Struggling to hide her magic and protect her heart, Brave’s only hope lies in the spunky little sister who has become her guiding light.

When ordered by her father to honor the betrothal to Prince Ian of Theron, Brave sets out on a mission to save Ian’s home, even as her father expects her to destroy it. When Aras is forced to follow along, Brave must decide how to save both a kingdom and the love of her life, while a soulless Aras would like nothing more than to see her fail.

In a story full of adventure, magic, and heart-wrenching choices, Brave will try to correct her father’s wrongdoings—one kingdom and soul at a time. But with the help of Vivi, Brave will soon discover the power of love… even in the darkest night.

I didn't like it as much as the first one, but it was still really good. I think it's because this one was so much slower. I was so torn between Ian and Aras. Aras seemed so far gone and Ian was so there and perfect that my allegiance started to turn toward Ian. The ending was too rushed and ended too abruptly. Aras wasn't there an then he was. I can't wait for the next one. I'm really pushing for Ian to get his happily ever after. It's clean and appropriate for teens on up. I would read this series again.

Eagerly waiting for volume 3!
Some say 2 parts are never as good as the 1st one. But I must say this one excels the 1st one. Strong vibrant characters, that you can empathize with, involving narrative. You can get in all moods, be worried, ready for adventure, laugh, be sarcastic, be in love, experience fraternal ... I really enjoyed every bit of it. The narrative flows much better than volume 1 and volume 3 promises to be a great out come for this author who could excel herself on the 2nd volume.
And I have to say, Viviana was my favorite character. This one is a keeper. Love both Brave and Vivi for been so well sculpted personalities, strong females (not the classic damsel in distress), with courage, determined, smart, integrate, and true to herself and does she loves.
