She Puts The R In Ratchet

Rate this book
Ever since Kandee was a little girl, she had high hopes about her future. That was until her mom dropped her and her sister, Rania off at their Aunt Ruby’s for the night, but one night turned into forever it seemed. Ruby refused to take care of both girls for her missing sister, so she sent Rania to live with their Uncle Junior and his wife, Gloria.

Kandee and Rania didn’t want to be separated, but they had no choice in the matter. While Rania was being raised in a loving home with her aunt, uncle and cousins, Kandee was still being raised by her mean Aunt Ruby.

Kandee’s life is torturous for the next two and a half years that she lives with her aunt and cousin, Mike. When Kandee turned twelve, her life changes forever. Her cousin, Mike decided that it was time for her to learn what being a woman is all about. Not only did he take her innocence away from her, but he also gave her a responsibility that she won’t soon be rid of.

After being gone for a little over two years, Brenda returns to get her girls back. While Rania was extremely happy to see her mother, Kandee was not. She blamed her mother for everything that happened to her and over the years, continued disrespecting her mom and fighting with her sister.

When Kandee meets Cinnamon, her life changes, and it is a welcome change for her. That is, until a blast from the past returns. How far will Mike go to keep Kandee from sending him to prison? Will the two of them ever be able to coexist? Will Kandee ever forgive her mother for everything that happened to her?

Whoa!!!
This book was so good I was done before I knew it! Mike & his momma need to be handled....The storyline was so deep at times I had to pause.... Kandee-my heart went out to her. Lady Lissa did a superb job with this story's characters, contents, settings-all of it! Kudos & please bring on the next part! Highly recommended!

Hate the title

I hate the title of this book, which is why I put off reading it. The book was actually very good, realistically dealing with child molestation and the after effects. How lonely, scary, confusing, terrifying it was for Kandee to be in this position. And she couldn't tell anyone. The absolute violation of her body and innocence, along with being abandoned by her mother caused her to withdraw from life. Why didn't anyone notice? And why hasn't Mike been reported, even without Kandee's consent? Are they really protecting her, or him? The way the family is (not) handling this has me perturbed. Kandee has become self destructive, having been stripped of her self esteem. I hate the term ratchet applied to her; it supports all the nasty things her abuser called her. Still, a great portrayal of a taboo subject that needs to be brought to light so that we can at least recognize it and put a stop to it.

“With the skill and grace of a veteran author Lady Lissa delivered an amazing read!”
She Put The R in Ratchet was a page turner from beginning to end. From the clever title to the relatable characters, I truly enjoyed this book. I found myself immersed in the world that Lady Lissa created and by the end, I wasn’t ready to leave it. Take a look at the book description found on Amazon.com
“Ever since Kandee was a little girl, she had high hopes about her future. That was until her mom dropped her and her sister, Rania off at their Aunt Ruby’s for the night, but one night turned into forever it seemed. Ruby refused to take care of both girls for her missing sister, so she sent Rania to live with their Uncle Junior and his wife, Gloria.”
The opening page captivates the reader with drama and intrigue. Stepping into the angry and bitter world of Kandee wasn’t easy, but was truly satisfying to me as a reader. This book’s plot was well developed and realistic. By the last page I was breathless and couldn’t believe that Lady Lissa would leave her readers gasping that way. That right, there is a cliff hanger and it leaves me already excited about the next installment of this series!
This emotional, relatable, well thought out gem of a book was chock full of characters so real, I had to remember that I had never met them in real life. I felt like I knew each and every character personally. I could definitely feel their struggles, disappointments, and the pain that each one of them dealt with. The characters were so well developed. Each had their own voices and you could identify with the emotions they were feeling throughout the book. These characters were created in such a meticulous way that they almost leap off the page. I actually felt like someone was sitting in my living room pouring their heart out to me
With the skill and grace of a veteran author, Lady Lissa took on a taboo subject and was able to deliver it tastefully. From the constant inner conflict of Kandee to the issues of her life that aren’t completely her fault, Lady Lissa takes you for a ride that you are not prepared for.
She Put The R in Ratchet was definitely a five star read. The message of this book is one that will resonate with every reader. If nothing else “She Put The R In Ratchet “ teaches you that secrets and lies can ruin a life and that there is always a chance to fix it.

This was a slow read. The only reason it kept my attention is because I'm nosy. There were a few mistakes. But those can be overlooked. This was a tell tell story. It was sad. I guess if a person could relate; they would like the story. To decide if I want to go on part 2? I wish Goodreads had half stars too. I rate this book 2 & a half stars.

Satisfied Reader

OMGGGG. This book definitely had me in my feelings. I couldn't understand how a mother ups and leave her daughters. Ruby was so wring the way she treated. Kandee did have a chance at childhood. Rania was a very sweet girl. I couldn't stand Mike I wanted to reach thru my Kindle and castrate him. Kandee really needs a reality check and I hope in pt.2 she gets it and grow up real quick.

This was unexpectedly good since the title actually didn't make me expect too much from the characters. The history of each character gave great insight into how Candy and her sister were effected by their mother's disappearance and how they had very different reactions

A well written story that will have you all in your feelings. The effects of child molestation is such a touch subject. The author handles it much as the black community did. This story was so realistic and believable. The main female character handles it much like a lot of young girls do. She is such a loveable child who turned ratchet because of the hand life dealt her. The story flows well and the cover represents the story inside of the book. Will definitely be recommending this book to all my friends.

Really mad

This book right here has me 45 hot. I wanted to reach into my kindle and choke Mike until his eyes popped out of his head. Then I would stomp them into the dust. Kandee had enough going on without him taking her innocence like he did. Aunt Ruby is also on my list to be choked out along with Kandee and Ranias mother. Thank God that Uncle Junior and Aunt Gloria were good people. I need part 2 asap.

Violence

As this series begins, I had mixed feelings because it speaks about rape and incest and family hatred for each other. But the more I read the more hooked I became to this storyline. The characters are so real and you love them and hate them all at the same time. I don't want to give the story away, so please this is a must read book, you will be glad you decided to follow your mind to read this series.

Ok

She has been through hell in her young life ,her mother left her and her sister with their aunt for over 2 years the aunt starved them then decided that she would only take care of 1 child so her sister was sent to live with their uncle where she was loved. Well she was as lucky as her sister her aunt was abusive and her cousin raped her at the age of 12 and she had a baby now she left town to get away from him and he shows up and kidnapped her
